Sealord is proud to be a partner in Precision Seafood Harvesting and its exciting sustainable fishing technology FloMo.
After an extensive strategic and brand review, we are excited to unveil our new brand FloMo and our new website. Our new brand, FloMo is derived from the combination of flow and motion. A name that reflects the low flow and low turbulence environment that allows water to flow through the membrane letting the catch maintain their natural swimming motion through the trawl. FloMo is a better way to fish as it allows undersized or juvenile fish to escape through the trawl and delivers a better quality catch. When the remaining undersized or unwanted FloMo by-catch are returned to sea, around 70 % of them are likely to survive due to the conditions they were in when they were initially caught.[1] Watch the video to see why FloMo will change the way the world fishes or visit us at www.flomo.co.nz [1] Based on Dutch flatfish trials.

Why is the 'people part' of a business so important? Our CEO Doug Paulin answers this and more in a recent episode of the IntraFish Media podcast. Doug speaks with Intrafish's Drew Cherry about Sealord's growth plans, our unique ownership structure and the importance of supporting a people-centric culture. He also revisits a brief stint helping out on the processing floor during the COVID-19 pandemic… It's well worth a listen: - Spotify - https://lnkd.in/g5-72jyf - Apple Podcasts - https://lnkd.in/gbcDXJPN You can also read a short version here: https://lnkd.in/gCdmiBhp

Sealord's efforts in sustainability - reducing our carbon footprint by 24% since 2019 - was recognised in Auckland last night. We were thrilled to win the Future Adaptation Award at the Seafood New Zealand Seafood Star Awards, alongside fisherman Dom T., the founder of Advanced Conservation Solutions (ACS). Chief Executive Officer Doug Paulin says the win is meaningful for the entire Sealord whānau. “When we say that sustainability is important to us, we really mean it. We have three to five-year targets that apply to the whole business, to reduce carbon emissions, minimise water usage, reduce landfill and maximise recycling. It’s not always easy to change things, to reduce adverse impacts on the environment, and it's been a real team effort by everyone in our business." Science shows that the commercial fishing industry is not to blame for milky fleshed snapper, in contrast to what some interest groups say. Sealord doesn't catch snapper but we're supportive of promoting the facts for our industry counterparts. https://lnkd.in/gNkuWFns
Opinion: Science needed to solve milky-fleshed snapper syndrome

Acquisitions need not be disruptive or detrimental to the ethos of a company. Our CEO Doug Paulin spoke with NZ Herald about the acquisition of Christchurch-based fishing company Independent Fisheries (IFL) earlier this year and the importance of respecting IFL's 70-year identity. https://lnkd.in/gQUs5vVr
Sealord gives new buy Independent Fisheries a long line to keep living up to its name

Sealord is proud to support kaupapa Māori health provider Te Piki Oranga as they celebrate their 10th anniversary this month. In this photo, our kaimahi Annabel Scaife was happy to donate Sealord hoki to Te Piki Oranga kaimahi Hamish Brown. The hoki was enjoyed as part of a celebratory kai for kaimahi and whānau at the Whakatū tari on 1 July, anniversary day. Keep up the great mahi Te Piki Oranga! #sealord #doingbetter
