Mānawatia a Matariki! ✨ The 2024 theme is 'Matariki heri kai' and comes from the Māori proverb ‘Matariki whetū heri kai’, which means ‘Matariki, the bringer of food’. Different stars in the cluster represent the areas where we source our food: ⭐Waitā - the ocean 🐟 ⭐Waitī - fresh water 💦 ⭐Tupuānuku - gardens 🌽 ⭐Tupuārangi - forests 🥝 What better way to celebrate with whānau and friends than with fresh, locally sourced kaimoana alongside all of the other beautiful kai Aotearoa has to offer?

Moana New Zealand is excited to announce our new cohort of associate directors Emma Winiata & Cornell Tukiri, with Rawinia Lewis to officially start as an associate director on Sealord’s Board on 1 July. The Moana New Zealand Associate Director Programme is dedicated to investing in future Māori governance talent, and the long-term growth and prosperity of the Māori seafood sector, Māori economy and Aotearoa. Due to its success, Moana has expanded the programme to our kahui in 2024, providing further opportunities to grow and support emerging Māori expertise, and fostering governance capabilities in tomorrow’s boardrooms. Moana New Zealand Board Chair Rachel Taulelei says, “It’s so good to see such high calibre candidates apply to the programme. Receiving nearly 50 applicants tells me people are excited to know more of the industry and of the kāhui of Moana, Sealord, Te Ohu Kaimoana, Te Wai Māori and Tapuwae Roa, which is fantastic. Our Board are immensely proud to offer governance-level opportunities for young Māori and ensure we keep our eye firmly on succession.”
