Stir up something new inside. Come with us and experience nature in New Zealand's south.

About us

Our family business was founded in Fiordland in the 1950s by tourism and conservation pioneers Les and Olive Hutchins. Sixty years later, we offer tourism experiences from Rakiura Stewart Island to Whakatipu Queenstown; including world-renowned cruises through Piopiotahi Milford Sound and Patea Doubtful Sound, the Te Anau Glowworm Caves and heritage steamship TSS Earnslaw. For us, the aim is still quite simple – to share the natural heritage and astounding beauty of the region with visitors – just as our founders intended.

It's Conservation Week here in Aotearoa.   We've been connecting people to some of the most incredible parts of the world since 1954. Our founders, Les and Olive Hutchins, built RealNZ on the foundations of wanting to help the world fall in love with conservation, and we've stayed true to that promise for 70 years.   Our conservation efforts are ongoing, from trapping and planting to cleanups. But we know that our efforts make up only part of our promise. The other part, is taking guests to places so unforgettable, they too become nature’s ambassadors.   So to all of our guests - past, present and future - ngā mihi nui. Thank you for giving us the privilege of showing you our amazing backyard, and thank you for falling in love with nature with us. We hope you can use this Conservation Week to reflect on your travels, to learn something new, to have discussion with a friend, or to even participate in an important piece of conservation work.   Whatever you get up to, let us know in the comments below! We'd love to hear about it.

I’m immensely proud of the tremendous mahi our team has put in since emerging from COVID, and this award is a testament to their efforts.”   This award wouldn't be achieved without our dedicated and hardworking teams across the business, thankyou 💚

The RealNZ annual Conservation Ball has been recognised as a finalist in this year's New Zealand Event Awards 🌿 As a part of this nomination, we've also been entered into the draw to win the 'New Zealand's Favourite Event' award for 2024. We started the Conservation Ball in 2015, working closely with the Department of Conservation and local conservation groups to identify projects that needed funding support and using the ball to raise this. Last year's ball raised more than $175,000 for the translocation of kākāriki karaka to Anchor Island in Dusky Sound, smashing its fundraising target of $150,000. The event is held at Walter Peak each year, with guests travelling on the TSS Earnslaw to enjoy locally-sourced food and drink, bid on money-can’t-buy experiences, and embrace the spirit of conservation in one of New Zealand’s most picturesque dining locations. Helping the world fall in love with conservation is what we do, and this event is a pillar of our purpose. If you'd like to see our annual Conservation Ball take out this year's competition, you can cast your vote via the link below! 🔗https://lnkd.in/grb7D-3k
