We spent a few days with the one and only Liz Riley - viticulturist, certified Freshcare trainer and certified legend. Between chatting about her favourite wines, favourite books, and career, Liz gave us a tour around Scarborough Wine Co’s gorgeous vineyards in the Hunter Valley. Liz wears a lot of hats. From managing viticulture at the family business, Scarborough Wine, to consulting all over NSW with her business, Vitibit Pty Ltd -  to even finding time to be a Non-Executive Director at Freshcare Ltd. We mentioned she’s a Freshcare trainer too, providing AWISSP training (VIT & WINE) and we were lucky enough to attend one of Liz' SWA trainings. Highly recommend. This is the first in our 'Producer Portrait' series, where we shine a light on the amazing customers  - and more so, humans - we're working with every day. Our belief is simple: technology and real-time data will strengthen biosecurity and build more resilient industries. In just six months, our traceability platform, Onside Intelligence, has flagged over 1,000 high-risk movements, highlighting the need for a unified, modern approach. To date, the Onside app has mapped over 16,000 rural properties and logged 2.6 million movements, providing insights crucial in protecting our primary industries. Sophie Badland, Biosecurity Manager at New Zealand Winegrowers, said it best, “Having a traceability system like Onside Intelligence potentially saves primary industries and the government a lot of time and money. Having movement data readily accessible gives us the best chance of eradication.” There’s always more to do, but we’re proud to see our tech making a difference in protecting the future of food security. Last week we headed to the beautiful Yarra Valley to visit two of our customers, Oakridge Wines and Giant Steps Wines We had a great discussion at Oakridge with Georgina about phylloxera in the area, and better yet we got to participate in their biosecurity measures. We checked in using the Onside app, and as part of their property set-up, they have check-in questions and rules to communicate the biosecurity practices that visitors need to follow. One of the questions included asking if we had been on another vineyard in the phylloxera area. They used our answers to direct us to use the foot bath to kill off any pests that could be carried on our shoes before we went near the vines. At Giant Steps, we got to see their brand new vineyard and winery location. It was a good time to speak about how they plan to manage contractors coming on site with Onside, using a combination of the check-in kiosk, particularly for new contractors, and the check-in app for more frequent contractors and visitors - and how this will give them better visibility of who’s coming on site, what they’re doing, and how long they’re there for. Rebuilding an app is no overnight job, and this is a project we’ve been working on for months. Internally, we called the redesign of the app “Project Hilux”. On Monday, Onside surprised the team with lunch delivered in a 2024 Toyota Hilux driven by our Head of Product Courtney van Beek and CEO Ryan Higgs. This was in celebration of the release of the new version of the Onside mobile app. A Hilux is a reliable vehicle found on almost every farm or rural property. It always turns on, it’s made of tough stuff, it can drive where other vehicles can’t. It’s a vehicle that most are proud to have on their properties. When redesigning our app, these are the key values we had in mind. We wanted to deliver an app that is reliable, always works the way it is expected to, and works anywhere, phone service or not.
