For Elemental Group, a highlight of having our Chair, Kate Bromfield joining the PMs mission to Korea this week was the signing of a MOU between us and the Korean South-East Energy Co (KOEN). In her speech at the ceremony, Kate said “This is an exciting opportunity to connect with KOEN as a genuine partner and look to explore ways for us to jointly develop renewable energy projects. I’m looking forward to this representing the beginning of a long partnership, but more that that. I hope this moment is the beginning of an enduring friendship between our companies and our countries”. Our CEO Nick Jackson presented the award for Social Procurement to HWR Hydrogen last week at the New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards
Last week BlueFloat Energy New Zealand and Elemental Group Limited attended the New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards in Auckland. We were please to sponsor and present the award for Social Procurement and this award went to HWR Hydrogen for their work in pioneering dual-fuel trucks. Combining hydrogen and diesel to cut carbon vehicle emissions by up to 34%. The initiative lowers emissions at a fraction of the cost of alternative low carbon vehicles and preserves the value of the existing diesel fleet. The first five dual-fuel trucks in Australasia have been converted and certified and with fast refueling, elimination of stranded asset, and minimal payload impact, this transitionary technology will help bridge the gap until 100% hydrogen heavy vehicles become widely available. Today, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen announced that following consultation with the First Nations, a number of offshore wind projects in the Gippsland area of Victoria, including our Gippsland Dawn project, have been granted a feasibility licence 🎉. Pierre-Antoine Tetard, Chief Commercial Officer and Executive VP APAC at BlueFloat Energy, is visiting Australia to celebrate this milestone and engage with key stakeholders. Using bottom-fixed technology, Gippsland Dawn will have the capacity to generate up to 2.1 GW of electricity – that’s enough to power more than one million homes! The project marks a new dawn of #energygeneration for Gippsland and Australia, aspiring to make a significant contribution to the Australian government's plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. AWARDS FINALIST: NZAS – Giving old uniforms new life New Zealand's Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) has extended its on-site waste management to include recycling of staff uniforms and safety equipment. Faced with potentially sending 10,000 items of redundant uniform to landfill, NZAS instead formed an innovative and ongoing relationship with Timaru-based Workwear Recycled to deliver a better outcome. The initiative, instigated due to a change in uniform for the smelter’s 750 employees, has been extended to include the new uniforms and other personal protective equipment as they need replacing. The smelter is also contributing to research on how products can be created from the waste clothing, including how steel-capped boots could potentially be recycled.
