Sad news today that the founder of IntraFish Media, Knut Eirik Olsen, passed away. Olsen founded IntraFish over 25 years ago in Norway, faxing -- yes faxing -- news to salmon farmers up and down the coast. Long before most people, he understood that salmon farming would become one of the world's most important sources of seafood, and he knew there was a niche for news on the industry. On the publishing front, he and his co-founder were early visionaries in the online news space, and had implemented a paywall years before most major global news outlets dared to do it. Quite simply, the man had faith in his (and his team's) independent journalism. I worked closely with Knut Eirik, and he was no doubt one of the most demanding bosses I've ever worked with, which means I owe him a great debt. Independent news is a critical part of any industry's development, so I think the seafood industry at large owes him a debt, too. You can read about Knut Eirik in the story below, and for those that remember him, here's a screenshot of what he created that would become IntraFish today. #salmon #seafood #aquaculture #fisheries #fishfarming #salmonfarming https://lnkd.in/gHwR4S_i

A year ago, Julie Lundgren, our Chief Product & Strategy Officer, took on an exciting challenge. She was seconded to Singapore to serve as the interim managing director for our business in Asia. Her goal was to gain insights on the Asian market and our operations, while supporting our colleagues on the ground and search for ways to increase revenues. Now back from her year abroad, we sat down with Julie to ask her about her experiences, learnings, and personal growth during this period. ---------------------------- What motivated you to accept the opportunity to work in Singapore for a year? - Living so far away from home initially felt scary, but it was also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I couldn’t pass up. My manager at the time encouraged me, convinced it would be a valuable experience – and he was right! I must admit, the warm climate and fantastic travel opportunities in the region also influenced my decision. How did you adapt your management style to fit the cultural and professional norms in Singapore? - I had heard that traditional Singaporean companies have a more hierarchical, chain-of-command structure than we do in Norway. However, since we are a global company with Norwegian business culture and highly skilled workers worldwide, I chose to maintain my usual management style. I strive to be open, accessible, and direct, encouraging our employees to take initiative and ownership. Looking back, what advice would you give to someone considering a similar opportunity to work abroad in a different cultural context? - Just do it! If things don’t work out, you can always return home, as a friend told me before I left. A specific piece of advice is to connect with someone who already lives there. I had a few friend-of-a-friend encounters in the first week, and they really helped me feel welcome and at home in Singapore much quicker than expected. ---------------------------- We extend our sincere gratitude to Julie for her outstanding efforts and dedication. We are proud to see our colleagues demonstrating our core value of courage. #DNmediagrouplife #employeestory #mangement

Whether you call it 17. mai, Norwegian Constitution Day, or Norway Day, we hope you had a nice celebration! Last Friday, our offices in London, Stamford, and Singapore joined us in marking Norway's Constitution Day, a day filled with national pride, tradition, and joy! Culture sharing is more than just a festive activity; it is a vital part of fostering understanding, unity, and collaboration within our global team. By experiencing and appreciating each other's traditions, we strengthen our connections and enrich our workplace with diverse perspectives. In Norway, our national day is celebrated with vibrant parades, traditional costumes, and heartfelt songs. From our Global Offices, they had their own take on the celebration with Norwegian chocolate, quizzes, and hot dogs with "lompe". Thank you to all our offices for embracing this opportunity to celebrate with us. Let's continue to share, learn, and grow together, building a stronger, more inclusive global community! #DNmediagrouplife #culturesharing #diversity
