Tijdens het ‘Hack the Boat’ FERM Port Cyber Café op 19 september 2024 (online) gaan experts dieper in op cyber risico’s voor de scheepvaart. Lange tijd waren schepen relatief veilig, omdat ze niet verbonden waren met het internet. Dat is de afgelopen jaren veranderd. Er wordt een complexe mix van OT en IT ingezet aan boord van schepen. Vooral de conventionele systemen zijn gebouwd met open en onversleutelde gedateerde systemen. Een open uitnodiging voor hackers. Aan tafel gaan o.a. Exciting news from SK tes! SK tes, an inspiring company in battery recycling, is opening a new facility in the port of Rotterdam. This state-of-the-art plant will recycle lithium batteries, electric vehicle batteries and production scrap to recover crucial raw materials. The container terminals of Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (Europe Container Terminals) will be equipped with shore power facilities in the coming years. ECT has made an agreement with Rotterdam Shore Power (RSP), a partnership between Eneco and Port of Rotterdam, to achieve this. The first vessels are expected to be connected to the shore power facilities by 2028. Once the facilities are fully operational at both terminals in 2030, around 5,000 sea-going vessels can be connected to shore power annually. This will reduce the port’s CO2 emissions by around 35,000 tonnes a year. Today Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, joined more than 70 other parties in signing a Joint Declaration of Intent entitled “Prospects for sustainable inland navigation on the Rhine 2030”. With the declaration, the Rhine bordering states and provinces, ports as well as relevant business associations and logistic companies want to join forces and develop measures for future-orientated and climate-friendly inland shipping on the river. “Inland shipping is not only crucial for the logistic chain in Europe. It will also play a significant role in the energy transition by transporting hydrogen and it’s derivates”, says Siemons. Supporting the shippers in greening the fleet is thus important to reach the European climate goals.   The declaration was signed on the occasion of the 7th Federal States Rhine Conference in Düsseldorf. The conference is an initiative of the four Federal German states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. Boudewijn Siemons was also invited to give one of the opening speeches, in which he emphasised the need for cross-border cooperation in the energy transition. “If we want to secure a sustainable future for industry in Europa and thus maintain strategic autonomy, we need to join forces”, said Siemons. Havenbedrijf Antwerpen-Brugge, Havenbedrijf Rotterdam en het Gemeenschappelijk Nautisch Beheer (GNB) hebben 2 september een overeenkomst getekend die hun samenwerking en uitwisseling van kennis en ervaringen verder bezegelt. Deze uitwisseling moet leiden tot een verdere verbetering op het gebied van veiligheid en vlotheid op vaarwegen en in havengebieden, wat vervolgens een positieve impact heeft op duurzaamheid en efficiëntie. In het Schelde Coördinatiecentrum in Vlissingen zetten vertegenwoordigers van de drie partijen hun handtekening onder de nieuwe overeenkomst. Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Havenbedrijf Rotterdam en het Gemeenschappelijk Nautisch Beheer zijn verantwoordelijk voor Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) en het beheer van de radarsystemen in de Schelderegio, Maasaanloop en de bijbehorende havengebieden van Antwerpen en Rotterdam. Dat systeem zorgt mede voor een snelle en veilige afhandeling van het scheepvaartverkeer en verzorgt op elk moment een actueel verkeersbeeld van de scheepvaart. VTS bestaat onder andere uit radartechnologie, marifonie, CCTV en AIS, waarmee de operators in een verkeerscentrale de scheepvaart kunnen begeleiden. ‘Met het tekenen van deze overeenkomst zetten we een grote stap om gezamenlijk op te trekken in toekomstige ontwikkelingen en uitdagingen’, vertelt Marcel van Kampen, executive manager asset management van Havenbedrijf Rotterdam. ‘Zo kunnen we nieuwe ontwikkelingen sneller verkennen en zijn we een aantrekkelijke partner voor innovaties in de markt.’ Lees meer: https://lnkd.in/ex4rxVBp #veiligheid #innovatie #portofrotterdam #scheepvaart

𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗖𝗦 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 Construction of the Porthos CCS project in the port area of Rotterdam is well underway. It is the first CO2 transport and storage project of this scale in the European Union to be realised. Porthos is the start of much more, it’s laying the foundations for future CCS projects in north-west Europe. The construction of Porthos was celebrated with those directly involved. The Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, the Minister of Climate Policy and Green Growth, Sophie Hermans and Deputy Director-General from the European Commission for Energy, Mechthild Wörsdörfer opened the event together with the CEOs of Porthos’ shareholders Gasunie, Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) and the Port of Rotterdam. Collaborative Breakbulk exchange between Port of Rotterdam and Port of Antwerp-Bruges 🤝 Tuesday, the Port of Rotterdam had the pleasure of hosting the Port of Antwerp-Bruges for an insightful exchange of information about the breakbulk segment. Recognizing that we face the same challenges, such as the need to become more sustainable, we believe in uniting for the industry’s benefit rather than competing. The day began with engaging presentations on the challenges and market developments, as well as an update on shorepower. We concluded the visit with a delightful boat tour through the Rotterdam port, exploring various breakbulk and offshore terminals.
