Earlier this year, the employees of LeydenJar enjoyed a company day with a visit to PlantOne, our production facility in construction. The event featured an inspiring speech from our CEO Christian Rood, coupled with a co-ordinated tour of PlantOne by our Project Manager, Elizabeth Couves. The LeydenJar Fun Committee put together a lovely end-of-summer BBQ with a twist: a surprise murder mystery and a curated pub quiz. Both were greatly enjoyed by all LeydenJarees. Last week, LeydenJar had the pleasure of hosting the State of Michigan's Lt. Governor, Garlin Gilchrist II, along with a delegation from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation with their CEO Quentin Messer, Jr. CEcD, and the CEO of the Detroit Regional Partnership Maureen Donohue Krauss, FM at our offices in Leiden, the Netherlands.   Bram Hallo demonstrated how our pure silicon anode can shape the future of mobility. For instance, by vastly extending Electric Vehicle range and reducing charging time of EV batteries.   And, of course, we showed off an original Leyden Jar on display at our office, on loan from the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave.   A big thank you to the Lt. Governor and the delegation for their visit, and to Bram Hendrix and Albi van Buel from the RAI Vereniging / RAI Association for making this visit possible.

Why are Americans so familiar with LeydenJar? US polymath Benjamin Franklin (writer, inventor, scientist, statesman, publisher, drafter of the declaration of independence) performed his famous kite experiment in May 1752, proving that lightning is electricity. Later that year he wrote (wikipedia): When rain has wet the kite twine so that it can conduct the electric fire freely, you will find it streams out plentifully from the key at the approach of your knuckle, and with this key a phial, or Leyden jar, may be charged: and from electric fire thus obtained spirits may be kindled, and all other electric experiments [may be] performed which are usually done by the help of a rubber glass globe or tube; and therefore the sameness of the electrical matter with that of lightening [sic] completely demonstrated. The Leyden Jar was invented by Dutch scientist van Musschenbroek in 1745 as the first capacitor to store electricity. A Jar because back then the believe was that electricity was a form of fluid. Today LeydenJar stands for storing more electricity than ever, boosting battery energy with pure silicon anodes.
