Recap: #BoomLive Industry Talk II Last Friday, 19th July, saw a riveting discussion on the effective use of PR in music by a select panelists of PR experts and music industry execs. It was hosted on #BoomLive, the live audio channel of the #Boomplay platform. Moderated by Martha Huro, Managing Director of East Africa at Boomplay, the panel included Ekow Quandzie (Head of PR & Sustainability Lead, Global Media Alliance, Ghana), Adeyemi David .O 💫 (Music PR & Marketing Lead, BFA Agency & Founder of Pizzazz Media Nigeria), Anyiko Owoko (Publicist & Curator and Founder of Anyiko Public Relations, Kenya) and #Wakazi (Artist, Tanzania). The following are some key takeaways: 1. The foundation for PR is having an identifiable brand that has a set objectives or goals. PR is that which connects the brand to its audience and establishes a relationship of communication, perception and value. 2. PR is not only meant for established artists or brands but a vital tool for all especially emerging artists as it can help them get noticed uniquely, develop industry relationships and navigate the music industry better. 3. PR for artists should not only be limited to the current status of talents but considered with a projection of what they would like to attain for the future. 4. The notion that traditional media is no longer important for PR is false. Traditional media can legitimize or validate your brand in the wake of rapid fake news on digital and so a mix of traditional and digital media should be used for PR campaigns.
