This week is Zero Waste Week, an annual environmental campaign to reduce landfill waste. As part of our strategy, Plan Four Zero, we have a streamlined site waste reporting system, KPI's are agreed and progress shared in reports and meetings. We recognise that achieving our ambitions and transitioning to a net zero society will require big changes within our business and transformation across supply chains. Here is a snippet of our progress so far: 💧 1243 Olympic size swimming pools of water saved since 2016, equivalent to 3.1 million metres cubed ♻ Volume of waste recycled, reused and recovered reached 51% by end of 2022 ⚡ Saved enough energy to power 20,875 homes for a year 🌍 885 tonnes of plastic saved across our rigid trays, films and flexibles 🍴 Food waste from production as a percentage of finished product is consistently below 1% 🥩 New vacuum packaging solution for mince uses 55% less plastic, extending product shelf life by 25% 🗑 By adopting a LEAN approach, we have been a zero waste to landfill business since 2016 Find out more about our Plan Four Zero strategy and progress at www.planfourzero.com #ZeroWasteWeek #PlanFourZero

Recently we announced the launch of ACTIVATE, a new incentivised sustainability programme for Irish beef farmers, which is being supported and co-funded by McDonald’s UK & Ireland. The ACTIVATE initiative involves a total investment of €4.4 million over three years and will provide payments to participating farmers for successfully implementing agreed sustainability plans and reducing emissions. The programme, which is the first of its kind in Ireland, has been created to accelerate the adoption of cost effective on-farm sustainability practices and will involve both online and practical training for famers to support them in achieving their emissions reduction targets. Community & Charity Spotlight ❤ We love hearing how our sites are contributing to their local community and charities! A team from Grannagh and Carrolls Cross recently took part in the 12th Waterford Viking Marathon Run, this was the first autism friendly run in collaboration with AslAm and Autism Friendly Waterford who endeavour to make Irish society a more inclusive place. Grannagh sponsor a beehive at East Waterford Beekeepers Association Apiary as part of their biodiversity plan for community projects. They recently paid a visit to the apiary to learn more about the bees and the important role they play. Employees have volunteered their time to deliver sessions as part of the Junior Achievement Ireland programme. The programmes are designed to complement the formal curriculum helping young people realise their potential by valuing education and understanding how to succeed in the world of work. #Teamwork #Community #Charity #PlanFourZero
