On Thursday, 25 July, Orrcon Steel | Manufacturing opened its new, state-of-the-art pipe and tube mill in Unanderra; products from the facility will be used in various construction and infrastructure applications, such as buildings, bridges, stadiums and shopping centres—enhancing our capability at BlueScope to supply critical inputs for components in large-scale solar farms. Incorporating advanced robotics and automation, this investment signals our confidence in Australian manufacturing and our determination to participate in the country’s energy transition.   You can now watch a video of the launch, featuring the following speakers (in order of appearance): Tania Archibald (Chief Executive, Australian Steel Products); Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM (Lord Mayor of Wollongong); the Hon. Paul Scully MP (NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces and Member for Wollongong); and Tony Schreiber (General Manager, Orrcon Steel).   We extend our congratulations and genuine thanks to the incredible team led by Tony Schreiber and Brendan McNally, whose hard work and dedication have brought this project to fruition.   ---   See photos of the event in our initial announcement here on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/gGsZEq7K   Visit the Orrcon Steel Manufacturing website to discover its mills and product range: https://lnkd.in/gDJig8de   At BlueScope, we're committed to our five key sustainability outcomes, which include sustainable growth and transformation and responsible products and supply chains. It's an exciting day for manufacturing in Australia, as Orrcon Steel | Manufacturing presented the new Unanderra Pipe and Tube Mill to be officially opened by the Hon. Paul Scully, MP (NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces and Member for Wollongong) and Gordon Bradbery AM (Wollongong Lord Mayor, Councillor). See photos of the event below, which give a glimpse of the facility that will provide crucial materials for renewable energy infrastructure. You'll also see the following presenters and special guests (in alphabetical order), along with attending employees and news media: Jane M. AM (Chair, BlueScope); Lester Kirkwood (National Marketing and Innovation Manager and event MC, Orrcon Steel); Mark Vassella (Managing Director and CEO, BlueScope); Tania Archibald (Chief Executive, Australian Steel Products); and Tony Schreiber (General Manager, Orrcon Steel).   The launch of the mill in Unanderra marks a pinnacle achievement at Orrcon Steel, which joined the BlueScope group of companies 10 years ago; this shows the benefits of continuing investment and building sovereign capability to deliver increased local content for Australian infrastructure, commercial building, transport and energy sectors. Including advanced robotics and automation, the state-of-the-art mill can produce up to 90 metres of tubular product per minute, featuring large circular, square, and rectangular hollow sections up to 10 inches in diameter. This extends Orrcon Steel’s existing range from its mills in Salisbury, QLD and O’Sullivan Beach, SA and replaces larger sections currently imported into Australia.      We congratulate the teams at Orrcon Steel and BlueScope who have made this a reality, with a special mention of Brendan McNally (Unanderra Manufacturing Manager), who has worked tirelessly to oversee and ensure the project's completion. --- Watch a video of the launch here on LinkedIn (https://lnkd.in/gi__9MdB) or at TVBlueScope on YouTube (https://lnkd.in/gw_jUVHE).   Visit the Orrcon Steel Manufacturing website to learn more about its mills and product range: https://lnkd.in/gDJig8de   #BlueScope #OrrconSteel #CreatingStrength #steel #manufacturing #renewables #event #NSW

At BlueScope, 'Strong Communities' is one of our five sustainability outcomes, which includes the topic of shelter: this addresses homelessness, emergency accommodation and affordable housing solutions. We're often amazed by the initiative of our people, who, supporting this outcome, volunteer their time for worthy causes around the world. See just one recent example of this below, as BlueScope employees in New South Wales worked with Dignity Homeless Services Australia to sort new clothing and toiletries for people who are experiencing homelessness.   We acknowledge the fantastic work done by Dignity every day and thank and congratulate the following employees for their contribution (in alphabetical order): Aasil AlamAkshata OjhaAnna WilliamsCara MedinovskiChristine McCoy, Jeff Finnegan, Joyce Cacatian, Jyotsna Vellal, Katie CrowleyLauren Pinfold, Nizam Uddin, Rachel GrangerRitika RamaswamyRyan Gooding and Vince Molluso. Volunteering with Dignity for the first time, the team from BlueScope Steel recently lent a helping hand in our warehouse, sorting through brand new clothing and toiletries for people experiencing homelessness and staying in our guest home. Your production line was incredibly efficient, resulting in an impressive 500 men's and women's guest packs assembled! Thank you Bluescope Steel!

Did you know that the world's largest-capacity luffing tower crane is operating at our Port Kembla Steelworks in Australia? Watch the video below to see a time lapse of its construction next to our No. 6 Blast Furnace, along with further imagery that shows its position in the plant.   The crane was erected by Marr Contracting and is a crucial piece of infrastructure to our No. 6 Blast Furnace reline project, towering over the facility in order to lift various equipment and components to higher levels. More specifically, the Marr crane has a driver's cabin 78 metres above ground level, a main boom of approximately 65 metres and a fly jib of 30 metres. Altogether, it has a maximum lifting capacity of 330 tonnes!   Learn more about the reline project on our website: https://lnkd.in/d-CZ365D You can also find other related stories here on LinkedIn by following #No6Reline.   We're also pleased to share Marr Contracting's update about its contract to provide heavy lifting for the reline: https://lnkd.in/gezPSS_b   #BlueScope #CreatingStrength #SteelShorts #engineering #cranes

Congratulations to our people at the Lysaght Rockhampton site in Queensland, Australia, who recently welcomed the AWIC - Awesome Women in Construction 2024 Roadshow to their branch. Over two days, the team hosted 81 visitors and took them for a tour of the facility; production ceased for a short period to give the young attendees a greater understanding of how the mills operate at the site.   We thank our people for sparing their time as tour guides, as well as Gerard Fletchett (Branch Manager, Lysaght Rockhampton) for the story and photo.   Learn more about Lysaght through its dedicated page here on LinkedIn and visit our BlueScope website to discover where we are across Australia: https://lnkd.in/gRYF4D4P   #BlueScope #Lysaght #CreatingStrength #DiversityAndInclusion #women #manufacturing
