Congratulations to Cara Lytwyn and Dan Verville - two of my most successful comedy writing graduates from Red River College - who went on to win and place respectively, at Rumor's "Funniest Person with a Day Job" contest a couple of days ago. However, I feel that I should point out that both would be extremely hilarious, even without a day job.
For this year's comedy writing class, the plan is once again to have a comedy showcase or two at the King's Head; stand-up comic Matt Cohen has volunteered to help us out again, and I'm hoping to have Improvision's finest, Alan MacKenzie and George McRobb, back as judges. I'll post dates on this site as soon as we have them.
Since we started doing the stand-up nights a few years ago, their success has gone beyond my wildest dreams. One of last year's showcases was one of the best nights of comedy I've ever seen period, with Delly Dyer, Brent Neill, and Janelle Wookey (among others) blowing the roof off the place.
Stand-up comedy can be a frustrating thing to do on a regular basis, so Cara and Dan deserve kudos aplenty for continuing to plow along in one of the most difficult arenas out there. Once again: great job to Cara and Dan.
Cara, Crystal, and Janelle need to do a show together.
ReplyDeleteAwe thanks Kenton. I never would have found this if I hadn't googled my own name.
