Another Blog Bites the Dust
Wow. Every blogger I know has been debating his future. But it's particularly unsettling when one of the successful ones decides to pull the plug. Kudos to Michael K for 18 hilarious years. Few things made me laugh out loud the way Dlisted did. Best of luck on your next chapter! xo
Remains of the Day (06/30)
Mehdi Hasan: 43 million Americans who were promised relief by an elected president just got screwed over by an unelected group of justices, half of whom were appointed by a president who lost the popular vote and benefited from a stolen seat. Yep. It’s all totally fine. Nothing to see here. In remarks on the court’s ruling that rejected the plan to clear $400 billion in debt, President Biden vowed to enact a relief program under a different law.
Brian Sims: The question will be asked thousands of times today & for years going forward: How can a made up business with a made up scenario take a made up case all the way to the US Supreme Court? As a lawyer, former lawmaker and LGBTQ+ advocate the answer is: A corrupt Supreme Court!
Jimmy Destri: So this is what the original cover for Blondie's iconic "Parallel Lines" album looked like?
Saturday 'Stache: Manly Mecca
AV Club: 'The Other Two' is over amid HR complaints. Yet another show I like that I started to quasi dread watching, a la "Younger,” “Better Things” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." It's weird how that happens, because these shows have always been uneven but somehow they go from 70-30 good -- and highly enjoyable -- to 65-35, and suddenly that's just a bridge too far. (Finally watched finale and thought they largely stuck the landing, so am happy it ended on a good note.)

Remains of the Day (06/29)
Highsnobiety: What does 'dressing gay' even mean anymore? Funny that on "Glamorous" the character Chad -- played by hunky Zane Phillips -- is labeled as not being very gay when a few years ago he would have been seen as extremely gay: highlighted hair, obsessed with his body, tight clothes -- and pretty bitchy.

Boy Culture: By now you've heard about Madonna's falling ill and are relieved to know she's expected to make a full recovery. Now we're learning that she battled a low-grade fever for a month before her body could no longer take it, collapsing and needing serious medical care. This explains the first question I had about how it got to the point that she was found "unresponsive," which seemed particularly scary for someone known to live such a healthy lifestyle. Good to hear she is home now.
Seven Photos: Murray Hill is ready to share his personal life. (I always knew him to be a self-identified "drag king" but Wikipedia says he's transgender, which perhaps is the latest blurring of the LGBT lines.)

Tempest in a Coffee Pot?
Starbucks workers at 150 stores launch strike over Pride décor
The coffee chain denies allegations that some stores banned or restricted decorations commemorating LGBTQ+ rights
I haven't got time to summarize the entire article, but I don't know about this, guys.
[Run-on sentence alert:]
When you're complaining about something extraordinarily vague -- they can put up Pride decorations but maybe not the ones they wanted to??? or as many as they wanted???? or????? -- alleged to have been done by a company that seems pretty progressive, particularly where LGBT people are concerned. (The company extended full healthcare to same-sex partners in 1988 and added coverage for gender-reassignment surgery in 2013.) And one of your chief complainers identifies as “asexual” -- are asexual people being denied rights, jobs or housing? -- and admits he hasn’t experienced any of what’s being alleged, it’s hard not to see these “queer” (whatever that means) workers as being guilty of refusing to take yes for an answer.
Don't get me wrong. I’m pro-labor and don't support the company’s attempt to prevent unionization. But I’m also pro-rationality.
Are these young people sure they're not just misguidedly "envious" of the activists who came before them, who fought actual discrimination, and that they're not trying to look for trouble where little exists? Because at the rate we're going, I don't think we can afford to alienate any more allies.
In a letter to employees posted Friday on Starbucks’s website, CEO Laxman Narasimhan noted that a Pride flag is currently flying over the company’s Seattle headquarters, just as it has in past years.
“We want to be crystal clear: Starbucks has been and will continue to be at the forefront of supporting the LGBTQIA2+ community, and we will not waver in that commitment,” Narasimhan said. “As such, we strongly disapprove of any person or group, seeking to use our partners’ cultural and heritage celebrations to create harm or flagrantly advance misinformation for self-interested goals.”
