It's Not A Good Day To Be A Bad Guy

May 13, 1994 was a Friday nite. I went to the movie theater by myself to see a flick I had been waiting for on opening nite.

I was there more for my brother who couldn't be there, but I know how badly he wanted to see the movie. I was a fan of the comic it was based on because he really wanted me to read it, and I did but only after his death when I came across them.

The next morning, I took a break at work from the coffee shop I worked at and walked over to Coconuts.

Remember Coconuts?

And I bought the soundtrack.

30 years ago.  Thanks, Michael, for telling me to check this comic out, and for making me want to see the flick.

The Crow: This Time I'm Not The Target Audience

I'm not a critic. I'm not a journalist.
I'm a fan. Of films, of music, of comics, of puppets, of arts... And of coffee... And more. Since everyone in the world seems to have a webcam and an opinion, I figured this would be easier than writing a giant post on social media... And remember - opinions are like assholes, they all stink. Since the new "The Crow" movie trailer came out a ton of folks have been asking me how I feel about it since I am such a huge fan of the original book and also the 1994 film. My initial reaction was "Please stop it."... But I realized I am not the target audience for this new movie, and that is a strange feeling. But also, no one can take the old one away from me.
I just hope it is good.

Maybe this could end up on a "Reel Talk" episode!

"Death is coming for them, tonight."

Friday the 13th, May 1994.
I was there opening night.
26 years later this is still one of my favorite films.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Always Hanging In Marvel Land!

I keep seeing posts online and on entertainment news sites about Marvel, Disney, and Sony not coming to an agreement on use of Spider-Man as part of the Marvel series of films.  I keep seeing folks blame Sony, blame Disney...
Really?
Blame Marvel.  They're the company that was in such a bad financial situation back in the late '80's early '90's that they were taking checks from anyone willing to write one for the screen rights to their characters.
But really, who cares why?  It's business most of us are speculating about but have nothing to do with.  The equivalent of schoolyard gossip.
A good comic book movies job is to be a gateway into the world of the characters.  A gateway into the comic book themselves.

Going to see a movie is about twenty buck these days, right?
Hit the ATM, get out a twenty dollar bill and find you local comic shop.  Inside that wonderful place Spider-Man has always been in the Marvel Universe.  So are the X-Men, and Venom, and The Fantastic Four, and Blade...  And so on...
Support the local shop, and the artists, writers, and creators who make these characters happen from the start.  They need the money more than the film folks do!  And their work is more inspired, original, and creative!  I'm not bashing the films at all, or their merits and creativity or the talent behind them.  I'm glad these movies are around, even if I haven't seen a Marvel flick since 2012, they just aren't for me these days.
But I do know that Spider-Man, Batman, The Hulk...  These guys were a gateway to me, into art, and creativity, and joy. And it was the comics that got me first.  And I'm grateful for that.

Doodles doodles doodles..

No, no pictures of doodles today...

But I have been drawing a ton more lately.  It was my first passion. It's what lead me to puppetry.  If I wasn't doing puppet movies I'd be drawing comic books and strips.
This morning, while flipping through over a decades worth of old sketchbooks I've decided to do that in my down time...  A comic.  I have a few strips I've drawn of the past 5 years, and so on.  So I'm just going to expand on it.  No time, no schedule, no rush.  Just doing it to do it.
As I finish a strip I'll post it, and post some of my old ones I already have done soon too, and once I finish a full comic I'll post it too.

Anyway...  Here's an oldie, and a look at something in Elmwood's future...
