Officers from the Police Traffic Department are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly woman who was struck by a truck.
Preliminary reports are that shortly after 11 a.m., the woman was attempting to cross the southern thoroughfare of the Tonique Williams-Darling Highway, when a Mack Truck traveling west being driven by a male struck her.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the truck remained on the scene and is assisting police with their investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
Man Killed Cutting Down Tree
Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an American adult male from Maryland that occurred in North Eleuthera yesterday.
Preliminary reports are that shortly after 9 a.m., the man was cutting a large tree at his home in North Eleuthera, when the tree “broke free” and struck him.
The man was taken to the island’s local clinic, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing.
