It's All Hearts Over Here

Ah Valentine's Day. I'm single, but I don't care! What is there not to love about the holiday? Hearts, reds and pinks, sweets - it's such a fun day whether you are a party of 1 of in a couple. Don't get me wrong, I'm still jealous of all of you attached people out there, BUT why not use it as an excuse to love ourselves?

This year I have no plans, but since it falls on a Friday I'm debating: hang with another single friend or avoid packed restaurants and movies and stay home? We'll see. If I go out, I want to be wearing this outfit above!

Now for a dose of the most bi-polar happies and crappies you will ever read, starting with the bad news first...

Got laid off on Monday

Happy:

Booked a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise on Thursday

Now if that's not the epitome of "when one door closes another opens"! Let's be real, I hated my job. My boss was a dick, I was treated like shit, never a part of the team, not doing was I was hired to do. A big miserable nightmare for the past 10 months. So them laying me off was a favor to me. Sure I'm worried about money and getting another job. But I has a feeling this was coming so I was prepared.

Fast forward a few days. My aunt had a cruise planned for the first week of March and she convinced my parents to go, who in turn invited me. The timing is perfect - no job, I've never been on a cruise, and I'm on a 28-day diet that ends the week before the trip (ideally I'd have months to mentally and physically prepare for a week in a bathing suit). So I figure, why not?! We're going to the following places:

Nassau, Bahamas

San Juan, Puerto Rico

St, Thomas, USVI

Grand Turk

If anyone has any must-sees/dos for these places, please let me know so I can plan excursions!

OK people, I need your advice. I need a TKO outfit for a very special occasion - Justin Timberlake in Vegas. Woot woot! Next Friday I'm heading to his show and concert fashion rules kinda go out the window for Sin City. I'd never wear a skirt or dress to a show, but it's Vegas. It's required to be all glammed up. Plus people were all decked out this summer's JT show I went to. So I'm thinking one of these two looks.

Glam: I have most of these items, or almost identical pieces. It's Vegas, glitter is almost mandatory.

OR

Rock: Bad ass leather. Is there ever a time it isn't right? Recreating this look should be easy.

Sweater weather is almost here, and it's going to be welcomed by me with open arms. It's November and still in the 80s. While I appreciate the sunny skies and warm days, I am craving a little bit of fall. When it arrives, I wouldn't mind strutin' my stuff in these sweaters.

Speaking of fall, if you didn't catch my post from earlier in the week, check it out. I visited Seattle and experienced my first real autumn, leaves and all.

If I were independently wealthy I would travel non-stop. Forget buying nice houses and cars, I would just want to see the world. Since graduating college I have been pretty fortunate to go to new countries and explore US cities I've never been to at least once a year.

 

In two weeks I am SUPER excited to head up to Seattle. I get to stay with a blogging BFF, Christina of Easily Entertained, and take in the city for the first time. We're currently planning our itinerary out and I have no doubt it's going to be an epic long weekend. One thing I already have set in stone are comfortable, warm clothes like the outfit above!

Fall 2013 Color Crushes

Along with Berry (which I blogged about two weeks ago), the other colors I'm loving this fall are purple and navy blue. Both colors make a statement. Purple screams fun, while navy exudes powerful.

If I had to describe my style I don't think I could. I am a mix of trendy and prep. So what's that - stylish granny? This week for Friday's Fancies I put together I look I'd wear. I have a thing for contrasting styles: soft and hard, sweet and edgy, structured and ripped. Pairing a blazer with distressed pants is one of my favorite looks. I love Julianne Hough's casual street style look above. Not only is it sophisticated, it's also fresh and fun. What's your take on this mixing trend?

Well hello, weekend. You are once again very welcomed in these here parts. But before we talk weekend, let's discuss this tee. I'm dreaming about it right now. In fact, there are quite a few shirts from Wildfox Couture that have been on my radar as of late. They are on point right now in the graphic department. I love the whimsical prints that they create, especially the palm trees and sunsets that capture the Southern California vibe.

Back to reality...

Saturday I am off to the bar where I'll be hosting my birthday party this summer. I'm going to create a menu and put down a deposit (well the latter will be my parents ;) so that should be exciting. Since we're talking vacations, can I get an amen for the 3-day weekend? Thank you baby Jesus. It's just what I need. It's been a rough week that started off with a bang. Literally. And not a good one. Monday I was in a car accident and my car is dented and scratched up. Luckily I didn't get hurt. But even with insurance it's not cheap to get repairs done. And that's if it can be proved it wasn't my fault, which it wasn't. That, added to my other stresses, have made this week pretty miserable.

Needless to say I am ready for some unplugged time.

Tomorrow I'm heading to Kathrin (of Shop.School.Sleep.'s graduation) and here's the outfit similar to what I'll be wearing.

Aside from that, my weekend is going to be low key. Maybe a BBQ on Sunday and possibly a trip to the movies at some point. How are you enjoying your vacation (if you're American and get the holiday)?

Be sure to thank a veteran if you have the chance! Let's not forget that the holiday means way more than a day off.

May Flowers

I'm kinda in love with these floral shorts. I think because the faded color makes them look a little distressed and not so sweet. Paired with a plain bag and top I'm good to go.

The only problem I have with this look I came up with is the fact that I want to recreate it. The problem? TAXES!

When I took my new job I got a bump in pay. Yay, wonderful! Great! Not so much. Because I make more, I get taxed more. In the end, I am actually making $100 less EACH paycheck - $200 less a month. That seems fair doesn't it?

Without sounding too poor, poor pitiful me, instead of celebrating my first full paycheck at my new job, I'm going to stay home this weekend. Please go out and enjoy yourself then come back and link up for Monday Morning Gossip sharing your fun stories so I can live vicariously through you!!

Sometimes the most basic outfits often say much more. For this week's Friday's Fancies look I decided to pair a sweet polka dot pants and a feminine necklace with a edgy boots and a simple sweater. Right now I'm really into the juxtaposition of soft and hard pieces. And the great thing about all of these pieces are that they can all be used for multiple looks since they are wardrobe staples.

Tribal + Neon

Ah, neon. My love affair with bright colors really started last year. If it is the same color as a highlighter, I'm all about it. Neons are just fun! Back in October I went to Australia and it was their spring. Everywhere I turned was neon. Now that's a country that does brights well. Now that it's back on trend for this year I couldn't be happier.

Pair neon with a tribal print and you're good to go for Spring 2013!

I'm in love with these Bandolino FillUp Wedge Sandals from DSW! They literally go with everything. I easily styled them with three outfits to show their versatility. Only problem is they are $70, meh. I know that's not that much but I am still waiting on my first paycheck from the new company. Maybe I'll find an online coupon and buy them once I get paaaaaid!
