A Lady In France Book Review

About the Book

At seventeen, Jennie Goutet has a dream that she will one day marry a French man and sets off to Avignon in search of him. Though her dream eludes her, she lives boldly-teaching in Asia, studying in Paris, working and traveling for an advertising firm in New York. When God calls her, she answers reluctantly, and must first come to grips with depression, crippling loss, and addiction before being restored. Serendipity takes her by the hand as she marries her French husband, works with him in a humanitarian effort in East Africa, before settling down in France and building a family. Told with honesty and strength, A Lady in France is a brave, heart- stopping story of love, grief, faith, depression, sunshine piercing the gray clouds-and hope that stays in your heart long after it's finished. My Review

This book is a book of a life, a memoir. It's difficult to review someone's life so I usually review these books based on how the book is written and presentation. That being said I really enjoyed reading about Jennie's life! At first I really had no idea where her life story was leading and then it took twists and turns. She didn't focus too much on one part of her life but everything that happened as a whole. I thought it was organized nicely so it made things easy to read and follow. The book is much larger than I was expecting but that's ok because there is a lot packed into her life! If I wrote my own story it wouldn't be nearly as long. Her travels are interesting but really the best part about this book is her journey to Christ and all of the things in between that effected that part of her life.
For a memoir this book is great, it takes you all over the world and gives you a new perspective.

Seeking Christmas Book Review

 About the Book

Do you wonder if the commercialization or hectic pace of the Christmas season is making it harder each year to celebrate what really matters? Do you wonder if the real message of Christmas is getting lost in the shuffle between parties, gift exchanges, and pageants?
Seeking Christmas is a series of family devotions and guided, hands-on activities that give your family meaningful traditions, rich experiences, and treasured memories.
More than just another Christmas devotion, Seeking Christmas is an experience. One that will grow with your family, that you will treasure for generations to come.
Seek the true meaning of Christmas, find the gift that is waiting to be unwrapped by you.

 My Review

This is a wonderful book for Christmas time. I was very surprised at how interactive this book is for families. At the start of the book it says: How to Use Seeking Christmas, so clearly it is meant to be interactive. To get the full experience the author has made fun additions to the book including the Seeking Christmas Journal and Ornaments.  At the end of each chapter is a section where you can make it more personal and realistic, it's also broken down by the age of children. The ages are split up as follows: 9 and under, 10-14, and 15 and older. This way each child gets a better perspective based upon their age. The book is separated into seven days, each day you do something different, leading up to Christmas day. She also gives you additional Bible verses to read that go along with the topic. My favorite parts of this book are the fun history facts about things such as candy canes and why we have trees in our homes with lights on them. We have so many traditions but why and when did they come about? I also think this book helps families understand that the holidays can have more meaning. It does not have to be a holiday focused on self.

I highly recommend to families with children of any age.
