2013 Tribeca Film Fest Highlights

We've been covering the Tribeca Film Festival for some time now and know full well just navigating the massive lineup is a daunting task, so we've done some of the heavy lifting for you. Know that you can always hit up the full Film Guide on your own time (in fact we encourage it!), but until then, below, you'll find a run down of the titles we found most interesting, whether it be for the plot, creators or actors involved...and sometimes all 3! It's just a slice of the full list, but still a hefty chunk of info, so let's get right into it...

Cowboys and Aliens Trailer Lands

In recent years, Hollywood has rediscovered the Western for an injection of originality, with excellent results...most of the time (coughjonahhexcough). Now, Universal simultaneously throws their bowler hat onto that dusty trail and takes a second bite (Skyline being the first) of the "Alien Attack" scenario with COWBOYS and ALIENS! I have to admit, not having time to see anything about the film at San Diego Comic Con, and knowing Harrison Ford and Sam Rockwell were on board, I just assumed this was a comedy/action/adventure sort of thing! Color me shocked...

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

The film stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Clancy Brown and Keith Carradine as well.

Universal has Paul, the alien encounter comedy with our favorite duo from Shaun of the Dead, set for a March 18th release and Cowboys & Aliens locked in for July 29, 2011. Add to the list their prequel to The Thing on tap for 2011, and it seems we'll be swimming in alien goo for the foreseeable future.

Robin's Big Date

Credit to Cinemablend Via Slashfilm, who I hear was also not let on the red carpet for Killer Inside Me. Apparently, Tribeca thinks internet isn't a viable means of PR and would rather the rags mention the movie title and event amidst their diet and boyfriend questions. Cheers!

Side Note: There will be a sequel...

New Iron Man 2 Eye Candy

2 WEEKS!!! The privileged on the west coast have already been pumped full of armored ecstasy, but for us normal folks, its just another 2 weeks til we dive back into the Marvel Movie Universe. Paramount dishes out new clips (which I'm not posting because I WANT TO BE SURPRISED BY SOME OF THIS FREAKING MOVIE) and new images I will actually post..for you...out of love. I even did a clean up on the Black Widow/Tony Stark pic as it was grainy and she looked like she had a 5 o'clock shadow and armpit stubbles.

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film based on the legendary Marvel Super Hero “Iron Man,” reuniting director Jon Favreau and Oscar® nominee Robert Downey Jr. In “Iron Man 2,” the world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.

MAY 7th Mother Truckers!!! Bring yo slurpee cups!!!
