MAD presents “The Little Rock Fountain Journal” in 2011 Chengdu Biennale. This year’s biennale research theme is based on Changing Vistas: Creative Duration. The exhibited work is inspired by the well known literature “The Little Rock Fountain Journal”, written by Liu Zhongyuan during the ancient Tang dynasty of great China.

Ma Yansong presented the design of “Floating Earth” a mahogany and stainless steel tray whose multiple levels create a sinuous organic form. The prototypes are on exhibit until 31 October 2011 at the China Shijitan Contemporary Art Center in Beijing.

Located in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, the Art and City Museum is a crossroads for a community working to interpret its local traditions in a new urban context. The completion of the museum offers a moment of pause in a city which has seen no end to construction in recent years.

The Maxxi Museum in Rome today opened “verso Est., Towards a Chinese Architectural Landscape” a comprehensive exhibition on contemporary Chinese architecture that reflects on China’s architectural landscapes from the past decade.

To celebrate the moving in of the Absolute Towers’ first residents, the New York Times featured an interview with architect Ma Yansong, the client and construction contractor for the Absolute Towers.

Abitare has recently invited Ma Yansong to Abitare’s feature architect interview. Through a personal interview with MAD’s director Ma Yansong, the interview attempts to explore architectonic projects and how Ma works within the natural environment and the urban realm.

Feelings Are Facts is the first collaboration between Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson and leading Chinese architect, Ma Yansong.

The Monster’s Footprint, MAD’s design for the Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, was unveiled in Shenzhen’s Citizen’s Square. Paved with pink EPDM material, the sunken footprints serve as a playground and gathering space for local residents.

Ma attended the opening ceremony and gave a lecture at CIVA in Brussel as part of the exhibition: Heart-Made, The Cutting-Edge of Chinese Contemporary Architecture. The Exhibition highlights the emergence of a Chinese architectural identity rather than a distinct style of Chinese architecture separates from major contemporary movements.

On the night of September 24th, following a lecture at Tsinghua University, Toyo Ito joined a round-table dinner talk with young Chinese architects at the MAD office. The dinner discussion centered on Asian architecture and its practice.

MAD TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP 2009 announced finalists today from 237 applications of 69 architecture departments/schools in China.

Ma Yansong will lecture at MAK, Vienna on May 19th 2009 as part of the MAK’s ‘Changing Architecture’ series, in which leading architects of today are invited to share their views.

An official ceremony kicked off MAD’s Conrad Hotel groundbreaking today. The building appreciates slowness situated among the standard orthogonal buildings produced today.

Ma Yansong will speak at the The 11th International Bauhaus Colloquium in April, 2009 in the German city of Weimar. The Bauhaus Colloquia is an internationally known forum for debate on architecture and urbanism and allows diverging ideas an output for discussion and research.

MAD Rabbit, a special issue of A+U Magazine, was published in december’s issue. The issue featured a selection of MAD projects at different stages of realization, illustrating the progress MAD has made since the completion of our first built project, ‘Hongluo Clubhouse’, in 2005.

Ma Yansong spent the last hours of 2008 in “The Shop”, an art space beneath a shopping center in Beijing. He was participating in the “Post-Olympic Mini-marathon”, a series of interviews organized by Hans Ulrich Obrist.​

MAD joined forces with BIG, INABA and MASS Studies to create four urban proposals for the city of Ansan, South Korea. The project, curated by Jeffrey Inaba, will be exhibited at Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art.
