Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 3, 1986.

The Hopferau estate was created in 1467 and was until the middle of the 19^th century in possession of the Lords of Freyberg-Eisenberg zu Hopferau. The upper half of the arms shows the family arms; a divided shield with in the base three golden balls. The lower half of the arms shows a bull's head. This refers to the Lords of Hohenegg, to which the village belonged around 1200 and who used a bull in their arms. It also refers to the agriculture and cattle breeding in the municipality.
