heidi2Having always loved the beautiful sound and versatility of the flute, Heidi Jones began studying the flute on her own at an early age and started private lessons soon after. Upon earning a master’s degree in flute performance from Butler University, she chose to teach privately and perform as a freelance musician in the Indianapolis area.

Ms. Jones has studied with Karen Evans Moratz (Principal Flute of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra; Butler University) and Loretta Contino (Butler University). Heidi has participated in numerous masterclasses, including classes presented by Paul Edmund-Davies (Principal Flute of English National Opera; London Symphony Orchestra), Elizabeth Buck (Arizona State University), Walfrid Kujala (Northwestern University; Chicago Symphony Orchestra),and Matthias Ziegler (Zurich Chamber Orchestra).  Most notably, Ms. Jones was selected as a performer for Walfrid Kujala’s masterclass, presented at the Indyflute Fest 2007. Ms. Jones has also participated in various competitions, and was delighted to perform at the Claude Monteux Young Artist Competition where she placed in the semi-final round.

While residing in Indianapolis, Heidi taught weekly students ranging from eleven to seventy years of age, with many of her students participating in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble District and State competitions, and Indianapolis area wind ensembles. In addition to teaching private flute students, she also performed numerous solo flute recitals, performed with the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra.

Heidi began dancing at the age of four and began weekly classes in ballet, tap, and jazz by the age of five. She attended classes at her local studio in Indiana for twelve years, performed in yearly recitals, competed at the state and national levels, and was a member and co-captain of her competitive high school dance team for three years. Ms. Jones performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for six seasons in their annual Yuletide Celebration, sharing the stage with Broadway performers and singers, including Sandi Patty, Ann Hampton-Callaway, and Liz Callaway. While working towards bachelor’s and master’s degrees in flute performance at Butler University, Heidi continued dance training at the collegiate level, participating in weekly ballet and modern classes. Though classical ballet remains her main focus and passion, Heidi enjoys teaching and performing many styles of dance and creative movement.
