Red Chili Wonton

- Wontons: shopping list
- 1/2 pound medium ground pork shopping list
- 1/2 pound shrimp, shelled, deveined and chopped shopping list
- 2 water chestnuts, minced shopping list
- 1 clove garlic, chopped shopping list
- 1 stalk green onion, chopped shopping list
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce shopping list
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce shopping list
- 1 tablespoon chinese rice wine or dry sherry shopping list
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar shopping list
- 5 drops sesame oil shopping list
- 2 tsp cornstarch or tapioca starch shopping list
- 1/4 tsp salt shopping list
- Freshly ground white pepper, to taste shopping list
- 1 package of wonton wrappers shopping list
- Red Chilli Sauce: shopping list
- 2 little red chillis, seeded and chopped shopping list
- 2 tbs dark soya sauce shopping list
- 4 tbs peanut oil shopping list
- 1 tsp brown sugar shopping list
- 1 tbsp ketsup shopping list
- 1 stalk green onion chopped shopping list
- 3 tbs chopped dried shallots shopping list
How to make it
- Mix pork and shrimp. Add cornstarch.
- Add water chestnuts. green onion and garlic.
- Combine the pork mixture with oyster sauce, soy sauce, rice wine or sherry , sugar, sesame oil, salt and white pepper.
- To fill the wontons, lay one won ton skin in front of you. (Cover the remaining won ton skins with a damp towel to keep them from drying out).
- Moisten all the edges of the won ton wrapper with water. Place a heaping teaspoon of won ton filling in the center and twist to seal. The final result should resemble a money bag or drawstring purse.
- Boiling the wontons:
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the won tons and let the wontons boil for 5 - 8 minutes, until they rise to the top and the filling is cooked through. Remove from the pot with a slotted spoon.
- Alternatively you can shallow fry the wontons until until golden brown.
- Red Chilli Sauce:
- Small saucepan heat oil.
- Add chillis and brown slightly.
- Add brown sugar, dark soya sauce and ketsup. Heat through.
- Finally add green onion and shallots.
- Top over cooked wontons and enjoy!
