How to make it

  • In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and cocoa.
  • Cut in the butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Add the egg and almond extract until blended.
  • Set aside 1 cup for the topping.
  • Press the remaining crumb mixture into a greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
  • Carefully top with the cherry pie filling.
  • Combine the chocolate chips, almonds, and reserved crumb mixture.
  • Sprinkle over the pie filling.
  • Bake at 350 F for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Cool on a wire rack.
  • Refrigerate for at least two hours before cutting into bars.
