Stonyfield Yogurt products have been a staple in our house ever since our first son started eating dairy around 15 months old. It is important for me to know that the ingredients in the yogurt my kids eat are organic. Trying another yogurt brand has never ever crossed my mind and we have been a strictly Stonyfield house ever since that first taste. Over the years we have progressed through YoBaby to YoToddler and now YoKids for the three oldest ones, and they have loved them all.
Recently, Stonyfield has launched a line of organic Yogurt pouches, which I think is pretty genius. This is the first refrigerated organic yogurt pouch available and they all contain pure organic ingredients and no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors.
The first time we tried these pouches was on our recent trip to Walt Disney World in Florida. When we got down there, our first stop before the rental house was hitting a Super Target for food. My kids eat their Stonyfield yogurt every day so I needed some to put in our cooler to bring to the park. When I saw the YoKids yogurt pouches I was thrilled because that is so much easier than the cups and spoons. And the kids loved them - blueberry seems to be the favorite. Now that we are home, the pouches are great to bring to the baseball fields when we are stuck there for 4 hours or even for an evening snack when we get home after a game.
YoKids Yogurt Pouch Evening Snack
I also recently tried some of the YoToddler pouches for my four year old. Now granted he isn't technically a toddler anymore, but the YoToddler line has veggies in them and so this is a great way for me to sneak some veggies into his diet. We tried the Strawberry Beet Raspberry pouch and he gobbled it up, finishing with a "that was yummy mommy!" Look, he won't even put it down while he stabs some fruit with his fork. So yeah, those are a big winner for me.
YoToddler Pouch with Lunch
With summer just around the corner, we are going to be spending 4 afternoons a week at the local lake. When I pack our cooler with lunches and snacks, I can guarantee that there will be some Stonyfield Yogurt Pouches in there. These are just perfect for a family on the go. Easy, yummy and healthy. My kids love the taste and I love that they are organic and free of any artificial junk and from a brand that I trust.
Even though we still have over four weeks till the kids go back to school here in Connecticut, there are many regions that head back in the beginning of August. So it is about that time to start planning for supplies and school clothes and also your child's lunches. Every year I start off all gung-ho with my bento style lunches for the kids, but after a month that quickly loses steam. I'm tired of packing the same old thing and my kids are tired of eating it. I tend to mix up sending home lunches with the kids buying hot lunch, but school lunches are the complete opposite of healthy and I'd like to get back to only doing that for pizza day on Friday. Thankfully now there is a place where you can get tons of lunch ideas!
Four leading natural and organic companies (Stonyfield, Annie's, Honest Kids, and Organic Valley) teamed up to create “Rock the Lunch Box”, a free resource that delivers ideas, tips and coupons for natural and organic products just in time for back to school. The site includes:
52 lunch ideas for what to pack-- including gluten-free, nut free and vegetarian choices
Informative, short video clips by parents that explain how to keep menus creative, packing time short, and involve kids and more
Ideas for staying connected to children during the day via notes and lunchbox messages
Tips for a healthy lunch when dealing with a picky eater or allergies
Gosh you have no idea how much the tip for the picky eater are going to help me. Having one picky eater is hard enough, but four? GAH!
At Rock the Lunch Box, parents can also submit their own lunch box creations and be entered to win goodies from each of the participating companies. Plus you can browse lots of ideas from other parents and hopefully find a lot of lunch ideas that will work for you and download coupons.
I was sent some products from Stonyfield, Annie's Honest Kids and Organic Valley to put together my own lunch ideas:
This is an example of what I would send in for my eight year old son. He loves when I send in leftover cold pizza (pssssst, Annie's makes frozen pizzas now!!). Along with the pizza I have mixed fruit of watermelon, cantaloupe and strawberries; cucumbers; Honest Kids juice pouch; Stonyfield YoKids yogurt and Annie's Cheddar Bunnies.
Now this lunch would be for my three year old. We have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut into a shape with a cookie cutter; raspberries; cucumber; Organic Valley shelf stable milk box, Stonyfield YoKids yogurt and again Annie's Cheddar Bunnies. My kids love those Cheddar Bunnies!
Are you ready for back to school time yet? What do you pack for your child's lunch?

Do you remember what your school lunches were like way back when you were in grade school? I remember hating the sandwiches I brought from home, but also not being very fond of the lunches sold in school either. I much preferred the snack stand where they had cookies. (Shhh, don't tell my kids).

May is National Strawberry Month and what better way to celebrate then with some natural goodies from YoKids and Tom's of Maine?! Both of these brands are well represented in our home and I love them both a lot. My kids have only ever eaten Stonyfield organic yogurts. They all started out on the YoBaby line and eventually graduated to YoToddler and now YoKids. I was so thrilled when Stonyfield introduced the YoKids Greek line earlier this year as it is a great way for me to get some more protein into them.
YoKids Greek is the first organic Greek yogurt specially made for kids and comes in two kid-friendly flavors: Raspberry and Strawberry. It is packed with 6 grams of protein to help kids power through their busy day and most importantly it is produced without the use of toxic persistent pesticides, antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically engineered ingredients, or artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners.
My kids also use the Tom's of Maine Silly Strawberry children's toothpaste. It comes in both a fluoride and fluoride-free version and since we have well water and do not take fluoride supplements, we use the fluoride one. Our boys love the flavor and I love that they are brushing twice a day with a natural toothpaste.
Discount
Each tube of children's toothpaste purchased on TomsofMaine.com will come with an on-pack coupon for $1 off YoKids Greek organic yogurt! You can also save 20% on your entire order with the coupon code: YOKIDS20! Coupon expires on 6/4.
Giveaway
One (1) winner will receive a YoKids lunch sack filled with several Tom's of Maine products including a full 4.2oz tube of Silly Strawberry children's toothpaste, as well as samples of their Naturally Dry deodorant and Daily Moisture soap. The bag also includes FREE YoKids and YoKids Greek coupons, YoKids temporary tattoos, and YoKids Strawberry-flavored Eco Lips chapstick!

Not very many movies come along that make me want to pack up all of the kids in the car and head for the movie theater. Bringing our family to a theater is quite an expense. However, we were very excited for Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and we did in fact pack up the family to go see it. We do have The Lorax book so my 7 year old is familiar with the story. Like most kids, he loves all Dr. Seuss books and as a bonus, The Lorax has a message that mommy enjoys talking about. We have discussed what happens to the trees and the Earth in the book and how important it is for us to take care of our planet.
So on Sunday we first dropped our 2 year old off at Grammy's house and then the rest of us were off to check out the orange mustache. While we waited for the movie to start, The Lorax shared some fun Connecticut tree facts with us on the screen, like that the largest tree in the state of Connecticut is a Sycamore on the Farmington River. I thought it was pretty cool that they included those.
When the movie starts, you are introduced to the town of Thneedville, where nothing real grows. They are secluded from the rest of the world and everything is made of plastic, even their trees. The air is so polluted that they need to buy fresh air just to breathe. Ted sets out to look for the Once-ler outside of town, to learn about what happened to all of the trees. If he can bring a real, live Truffula tree back to Thneedville, it would impress Audrey, the girl of his dreams.
The Once-ler tells Ted about how he came to this place searching for the perfect material to knit his Thneeds. Of course the tufts of the Truffula trees were what he needed. After cutting down the first tree, The Lorax is summoned and tells The Once-ler how important the trees are and asks that he stop chopping them down. After some bickering, The Once-ler promises to not cut down any more trees. Until the day his Thneeds become popular and he breaks that promise. He starts cutting down more and more trees until all that is left are stumps, rivers of gunk and smog filled air. The Lorax sends away all of the animals to find a better place to live and picks himself up and leaves as well. For years The Once-ler lived alone regretting everything he did. But now that Ted has come to hear his story, there is hope for the trees. Ted is given the last Truffula seed to bring back to Thneedville to plant in the center of town. To make people care about trees again.
So what did we think of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax? We loved it! It has a little bit of everything: beautiful animation, cute animals, music, humor and a message. You immediately fall in love with Dr. Seuss' whimsical animals, especially the cuddly looking Bar-ba-loots. My kids literally laughed out loud during the movie and when we got in the car they immediately asked if we could buy it for home. For me as a green mom, I thought the film was a great way to reach out to kids about taking care of the environment. At the end, when Ted is planting the last Truffula seeds and the people of the town are singing "Let it Grow" I watched and cried. I might be a giant sap, but I just thought it was very moving. And motivating as it makes me want to run out and plant trees everywhere!
We all need to listen to the words of The Lorax and we all need to start speaking for the trees! If you want to spread the message of hope and speak for the trees, head on over to Dr. Seuss' The Lorax on Facebook. There is even a mobile phone app that let's you add a mustache to your pictures. I downloaded this last night so I could do it for one of my four year olds who is obsessed with 'staches!

We are big Stonyfield eaters in this house and for the past few weeks, my kids have gotten a kick out of seeing The Lorax and his super cool mustache on the tops of some of their YoKids yogurts. If you visit theYoKids website at www.yokidsyogurt.com, you can enter a pretty awesome giveaway for a chance to win a special screening of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and an organic garden for your school.
Earlier this year, Stonyfield released a new line of kids yogurt: YoKids Greek. This is the first organic Greek yogurt made especially for kids. I was hoping that Stonyfield would eventually create something like this so when they announced YoKids Greek I was super excited. They first rolled it out in natural food stores and now it is available at most major supermarkets. I am still waiting for it to arrive to my local Big Y or Stop & Shop and I check regularly for it. I am anxious to get my hands on some for my kids to try. YoKids Greek is packed with more protein than traditional yogurts and with a few children who are not so great about eating protein rich foods, this would be a nice way to sneak some in.

We are huge Stonyfield Farm fans in my house. Right now in our fridge you will find YoBaby 3-in-1 Meals, YoKids Yogurt and Super Smoothie drinkable yogurt. In fact, you can always find those 3 things in my fridge. My kids have not met a Stonyfield product that they didn't gobble up!Currently I am on a dairy free diet due to my nursing baby's milk protein intolerance. But if I wasn't dairy free I'd be eating their probiotic yogurt. I'd also love to try out their Oikos line of Greek yogurt. I have never tried Greek yogurt before but I heard its delicious plus is great to use in many recipes.
What is great about Stonyfield is not only do they make tasty organic products but they are truly a green company. They use clean renewable energy to help power their facility and they provide tremendous support for organic farms
We feel that healthy food can only come from a healthy planet – and through our organic ingredient purchases we have kept over 100,000 farm acres free of toxic, persistent pesticides and chemical fertilizers that can contaminate soil, rivers and drinking water.
For the past few months, Stonyfield has been following the daily life of organic farmer Guy Choiniere through his video diaries. Watching these is a great way to learn what happens on an organic farm. You can watch one videoe below and be sure to check out more on Stonyfield's FarmCam.

We are a HUGE Stonyfield Yogurt household - it is the only yogurt that my boys have ever had. My 2 year old twins love their YoBaby Yogurt (I usually get the ones with cereal mixed in. My 4 year old has moved onto YoKids, which he loves. You can always find one in his lunchbox.
Stonyfield was generous enough to send me some coupons for YoBaby Meals so I could try them out. Unfortunately, one of the disadvantages to living in The Middle of Nowhere, New England is that there is only one small natural food store near me. Just my luck, they did not have them. So my search is still on to find YoBaby Meals. When I do, I will definitely report back to you all to let you know how my twins like them.
