Learning Nest thermostat won’t turn on

Best has been working for almost 2 years but suddenly stopped working during heat wave. Said battery was low so I recharged. Then said it was updating and never turned on again. Flashes green until I try to reset and then flashes red until I recharge it.

Does anyone have any ideas how to hard reset beyond a 10 second press?
thanks. It’s pretty hot in house upstairs with outside temps in 110+. Downstairs works perfectly. Ready to buy any old thermostat right now

Hi @Brokenbones,

Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Learning Thermostat isn't able to turn on. I'm happy to help!

To gather more information, I'd like to ask the following:

  • How long did you charge the thermostat with a USB cable?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • When did you install the thermostat?
  • Did you get any error messages?

For now, I'd suggest the next steps:

  • Make sure the wires are connected properly. Check if the thermostat wires are secure in their terminals and all the buttons are down. Note: Before checking the wires, turn off the power for your HVAC system.
  • Check if any connector pins are bent.
  • While charging the thermostat with a USB cable, try pressing the display for about 10 seconds to perform a battery disconnect. Then, if you can access the thermostat settings, go to Settings > Technical Info > Power to check the battery readings, VOC, and VIN.

For more information, you can learn more in the next article: Troubleshoot when your thermostat won’t turn on.

Please keep me updated.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
