Reach appears to be Bungie's final title set in the Halo universe, but that doesn't mean Microsoft is preparing to bid farewell to its golden gaming goose. The company's designated publisher of all things Master Chief, 343 Industries, announced today it is now hiring in a major way for the next Halo videogame.

On a new page on the Microsoft Game Studios 343 Industries web site the tech giant makes its intentions clear, listing 24 different job openings (and counting) and inviting developers to become a part of Halo history.

"343 Industries is forging the future of Halo, expanding and building upon one of the most important and successful franchises in gaming history," the company states. "Just you wait. 343 is set to revolutionize gaming and entertainment by putting the industry's fiercest talent in one room and diving for cover. Come be part of the awesome."

Among the positions listed are character, environment, and effects artists, producers, animators, and audio and software engineers. Under the job description for one software development engineer position, Microsoft invites applicants to become a "part of a new, fun and talented development family building game technology in a start-up studio environment."

"Work on one of the most exciting and creative intellectual properties in the industry -- we are gathering an incredible team to help drive the future of Halo."

Sharkey says: With Bungie on the way out the door, it appears Microsoft has opted to create its own, brand new studio to develop the Halo title that will follow Reach. That's quite an undertaking for any studio, let alone one that doesn't exist yet. I'm surprised Microsoft didn't hand the reins to one of its other well-established developers -- Rare for example. Anyone looking to move to Washington?
