The Halo: Reach beta is fast approaching, with owners of Halo 3: ODST able to hop in and start playing on May 3rd. However, a lucky few will be getting in on Thursday the 29th of April, as Bungie will be starting their "friends and family" beta on that day. Since we're friendly with folks at the Kirkland-based developer, we were able to get a hold of some of these early codes with the intention of giving them to you, our loyal readers.
Of course, just because we have a handful of codes, it doesn't mean we'll just be handing them out willy-nilly. We started the week by giving some codes away on Twitter, and now it's time to make you work a bit for them. Since we here at GameSpy are big fans of the written word, we've decided to task wannabe Reach beta testers with crafting Halo-themed haikus. We'll choose our five favorites, with each of the winners receiving a code.
In the event you've never heard of a haiku before, here's a little primer. Basically, a haiku is a poem made up of three lines. The first has five syllables, the second sports seven, and the third goes back to five. Some examples:
Halo Reach beta / It's the event of the year / Kill your friends all night
Master Chief kills Grunts / "Oh no, a demon," they scream / Grenade to the face!
Finally, if you don't know what syllables are, well, may god have mercy on your soul.
[Editor's Note: The contest is over, but we've created a separate article so you can read about our Halo Haiku Contest Winners easily. Thanks to everyone who participated!]
