Before gamers don their engineering RIG and power up their plasma cutters for Dead Space 2, Electronic Arts has another Necromorph-infested adventure in store. EA has announced Dead Space Ignition, a digital arcade game that will act as a prequel to Dead Space 2, will arrive on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network next week.

Featuring an interactive "comic-style," choose your own adventure story and three hacking mini games, Ignition will allow players to take multiple paths to completion. And at each of the game's four endings, players will unlock rewards for the full Dead Space 2 game.

"Dead Space Ignition is the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2," said Steve Papoutsis, executive producer on Dead Space franchise. "The interactive comic-style game will give Dead Space fans a unique perspective on the events leading up to Dead Space 2, but will also introduce the storyline to a brand-new audience of gamers."

Antony Johnston, author of the comic series Wasteland and Daredevil scribe wrote the story for the Ignition which will detail the events that occur in the hours before Isaac Clarke begins his adventure on The Sprawl. Dead Space Ignition will be ready for download on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on October 13 for $5 (400 MS Points). Dead Space 2 is set to ship for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows PCs on January 25.

Sharkey says: Ignition has me intrigued. I'm an old-school Choose Your Own Adventure lover, and I'm a big fan of Johnston's post apocalyptic comic, Wasteland -- check it out if you get a chance, you'll become hooked.
