Earlier this week we reported on a puzzling motion-controlled "worship" title, Mass: We Pray. I questioned at the end of the post if this was the latest Dante's Inferno PR stunt, and it turns out I was right. The site was indeed a viral campaign to promote Dante's Inferno.

Clicking on Mass: We Pray's pre-order form outs the sites' true intentions with the message, "He who betrays the beliefs of the Church blackens his soul with the sin of Heresy." The note clarifies, "A Mass not celebrated by ordained priest or on consecrated soil is naught but false ritual condemned by clergy." The warning leads to a new Dante's Inferno trailer, as well as a "Go to Hell" Facebook app.

Tyler says: Read between the lines: This post is one giant "I told you so!" When I saw the site earlier this week, I knew some budget went into making the "game," so logic followed that the fake game must have been a result of some PR ruse. And Dante's Inferno has had some pretty infamous PR stunts, drawing ire from Christians and non-Christians alike.

First there was the fake protest at E3 where actors chanted, "hell is not a game." Then the "Act of Lust" campaign at the San Diego Comic Con caused EA to issue an official apology. Later, select gaming enthusiasts were sent real, cashable checks to indulge the deadly sin of greed. And more recently, a funnier and more lighthearted Rickroll-playing wooden crate was sent to gaming journos to incite rage. There are still a few sins to go, so who wants to guess what the game's PR will do with sloth or gluttony?
