Recently, the comic book industry has seen a huge upswing in mainstream acceptance. This is due in large part to the success of films such as Spider-Man and Batman Begins. While Hollywood has only just started to mine the comic book quarry for material, the video game industry has always dug deep to bring the comic experience to the masses. So what's on the gaming horizon for fanboys everywhere? Here's a quick look at just a few of the comic based games that were generating attention at Comic-Con International:

Ghost Rider
Marvel's demonic motorcyclist makes his video game debut next year, courtesy of Majesco Entertainment and UK developer Climax. The game is based on the upcoming feature film starring Nicholas Cage and Eva Mendes. Ghost Rider tells the story of stunt cyclist John Blaze, who made a pact with the demon Mephisto in order to save the life of those closest to him. As a result, Blaze became Ghost Rider, a dark spirit of vengeance riding the highways on a flaming motorcycle dishing out a harsh brand of justice. There have been a few changes over the years to the Ghost Rider character, but Majesco has enlisted the help of comic writers Garth Ennis and Jim Palmiotti to put together a script for the game that comic fans will be proud of.

Timed to coincide with the Nicholas Cage movie, the Ghost Rider game will rip the roads a new one.

Teen Titans Go!
Fans can expect more comic cook action from Majesco later this year with its release of Teen Titans Go! Based on the popular cartoon series, Teen Titans Go! is an action game in the vein of recent comic titles like X-Men Legends and Fantastic Four. Players will take control of Robin, Beast Boy, Raven, Cyborg, and Starfire through a variety of missions in order to save the city from the forces of evil. Each character has his or her own unique abilities, and players will be able to take control of other teammates on the fly. Also, the player will be able to play along with up to three of his friends for some frantic multiplayer mayhem.

The Darkness
Majesco's comic book lineup just keeps growing. This time we're talking about The Darkness, based on Top Cow's popular comic book anti-hero. The comic focuses on mafia hitman Jackie Estacado who, on his twenty-first birthday, inherited an unholy power known as The Darkness. Granted supernatural abilities while concealed from the light, Jackie struggles to survive in a world where the mob is the least of his concerns. Thanks to the efforts of comic writer Paul Jenkins (see Our Interview) and the development team over at Starbreeze Studios (Chronicles of Riddick), fans can expect to see Jackie's exploits faithfully brought to next-gen consoles sometime next year.

The Darkness is being developed by the same team that brought us Riddick...

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
The Darkness isn't the only title being scripted by Paul Jenkins. The writer also played a major role in the development of Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, coming to consoles next month from Vivendi Universal. Ultimate Destruction was on display at Comic-Con with a new build, and it looks like it could be a surprise hit for comic fans. The development team over at Radical Entertainment took everything that fans love about the Hulk (the strength, the rage, the abilities) and put it all together in a Gamma bomb sized experience that's shaping up to be one of the best comic translations of the year.
