LittleBigPlanet 2 is an undeniably ambitious game because it will not only bring players another ingenious Sackboy adventure, it will also allow aspiring designers to create just about any kind of game they want. As the devs at Media Molecule admitted today, it's an even more ambitious undertaking than they realized, and as a result, the game has been delayed until 2011.

Originally slated to launch in time for the holiday season on November 16, Media Molecule said in a statement on the official LBP blog that LBP 2 has been bumped to January 2011.

"We've all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we're almost there, but because we love what we've made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn't let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable," Media Molecule stated.

The company did add that it plans to give more fans a taste of LBP 2 before its new launch date, with details to come in the near future.

"We are a tight-knit team and we take enormous pride in our work, so to raise the bar we've set with the original LittleBigPlanet, a game that has been so embraced by all, we've agreed to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve. We are truly sorry, but hope you understand that we have to build the best possible game, as it is the foundation of our community."

Sharkey says: The original LBP created the play, create, and share model on consoles, with easy to use, intuitive level design tools. Upgrading that system to allow fans to create an entire game of their own is a truly monumental task. Take all the time you need, MM.
