Variety has word this morning that a new director has been picked by Universal for the film adaptation of BioShock. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ("28 Weeks Later" writer and director), pending Take-Two's approval, has been picked to helm the film, which has been rescheduled to shoot overseas.

Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was originally cast as BioShock's head, but had to step down when the film's increasing budget called for a shoot abroad.

John Logan ("Gladiator," "The Last Samurai" and "The Aviator"), has written the script for BioShock, and Enrique Lopez Lavigne, Fresnadillo's producing partner, is negotiating to come on board as a producer.

Tyler says: When I first read this story, I got real excited. That was, until I realized the new director wasn't responsible for "28 Days Later" and was the guy behind "28 Weeks Later." As someone who's not a fan of the horror genre, I thought "28 Days Later" was a brilliant modern take on the classic zombie films, but that its sequel lacked the "arty" style of the first. Let's hope the guy who wrote the script for favorites like "Gladiator" and "The Aviator" can add some depth to BioShock.
