On day 34 of the Esports World Cup, spectators were treated to a huge number of different match-ups in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, StarCraft II, and EA Sports FC 24. All three of these game titles really started to get moving yesterday, as three Semi-Finalists were found in StarCraft II. A total of 24 games were played in EA Sports FC 24, too, while eliminations began in Call of Duty!

We look at the key matches from yesterday's Esports World Cup action, while also sharing the results from all three events.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

It was business as usual in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, as all of the teams expected to progress booked their tickets to the Quarter Finals. The current Call of Duty League Champions, OpTic Gaming, finished at the top of Group A, while Groups B, C, and D were topped by Vancouver Surge, Toronto Ultra, and Atlanta FaZe, respectively.
One of the most interesting matches from yesterday was 100 Thieves vs Lore Gaming, a match for survival that unfortunately didn't live up to the hype. 100 Thieves steamrolled their way through Lore in a 3-0 fashion, meaning that Alec 'Arcitys' Sanderson, a real fan favourite, was sent home, alongside the rest of his team.
Other notable organisations that got eliminated yesterday include Las Vegas Legion and Team Heretics, with the other seven matches being played out as follows:
  • OpTic Gaming 3 - 1 Carolina Royal Ravens
  • Cloud9 1 - 3 Vancouver Surge
  • Atlanta FaZe 3 - 0 100 Thieves
  • Toronto Ultra 3 - 1 Boston Breach
  • Gentle Mates 1 - 3 Cloud9
  • Las Vegas Legion 1 - 3 Carolina Royal Ravens
  • Stallions 0 - 3 Boston Breach

EA Sports FC 24

As mentioned earlier, day 34 of the Esports World Cup was packed with EA Sports FC 24 action, as 24 group stage matches were all played out. Naturally, all these games lead to a change in the standings, with nicolas99fc, representing Cloud 9, having the most successful day. He managed to win all three of his matches yesterday, catapulting himself to the very top of Group B. Vejrgang did the same, in order to grant himself immunity from elimination.
Below you can see the current standings, with Group A being incredibly tight towards the bottom of the table. Keep in mind that there are only a few more matches left to play before the bottom 2 players are eliminated from the event, too!

StarCraft II

The group stages came to an end in StarCraft II as well, with yesterday featuring a number of highly anticipated match-ups. Serral and herO facing off was arguably the best series of the event so far, as many expected, with Serral narrowly avoiding defeat as he progressed to the Relegation Match in a 3-2 fashion. He would then go on to face Maru, another entertaining match that ended 3-1 in favour of Serral.
Another tight match was Oliveira vs ByuN, with Oliveria taking a 2-0 lead out of the gates. ByuN managed to pull it back to a 2-2 series, however, he was denied the reverse sweep as Oliveira closed the show in map 5. Here's a look at all the results from yesterday's StarCraft II action:
  • Reynor (BASILISK) 3 - 0 Solar (Team Vitality)
  • herO (Weibo Gaming) 3 - 1 Cure (Team Liquid)
  • Oliveira (Weibo Gaming) 3 - 2 ByuN (Shopify Rebellion)
  • herO (Weibo Gaming) 3 - 0 Reynor (BASILISK)
  • Oliveira (Weibo Gaming) 2 - 3 Maru (Team Vitality)
  • herO (Weibo Gaming) 2 - 3 Serral (BASILISK)
  • Serral (BASILISK) 3 - 1 Maru (Team Vitality)
With a victory over Maru, Serral progressed to the Final Four, meaning that a Semi-Final meeting between him and Dark is on the cards. The knockout bracket will commence first, however, as 14 players fight for the last remaining spot in the Final Four!
In addition to the knockout bracket in StarCraft II, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Quarter Finals will get started today, featuring big matches such as Atlanta FaZe vs Boston Breach and Toronto Ultra vs 100 Thieves.
In EA Sports FC 24, the group stages and resurrection stage will also conclude, allowing us to find our eight Quarter Finalists before Championship Sunday!
