Welcome. My name is Erin Wilson. I'm based in Kurdistan, Iraq and have traveled to cover stories throughout Iraq, and in places like Colombia, Libya, Lebanon, Mexico, Syria, and Venezuela.
I'm a photographer, writer, and one-time podcast host who sees stories everywhere. A former restoration carpenter and museum curator, I love making connections between what happened in the past and what we experience with our neighbours today.
I believe in creating work that dignifies, empowers, and connects.
For NGOs:
• I create beautiful and authentic photographs that represent programming, dignify recipients, and motivate donors.
• I write empowering stories that connect donors with programming & are useful for donor reporting, websites, newsletters & social media.
• I teach on-the-ground staff techniques to gather evocative stories and images in ways that further organizational posture.
• I teach Communications and Marketing teams techniques to keep the agency and dignity of those they serve central to their work.
For Communities:
• I create a range of learning experiences–from written articles, exhibits, newsletters, website content, and podcast episodes–for historical societies, museums and local governments, to help residents and visitors see their surroundings are extraordinary.
• I coach youth groups, school classes, and service groups who travel as part of their activities, on respectful and dignifying posture when documenting their experiences—so their visits build up the local community rather than harming it.
