Speaker Keeps Gavel: Boehner Gets By with a Little Help from Missing Dems | PJ Tatler
Even though the anti-Boehner contingent didn’t get all the defections they’d hoped for, Boehner’s path to the speakership was made a bit easier by the Democrats.
Twenty-seven lawmakers weren’t on the floor for the vote, lowering the number needed by Boehner to win. About a dozen Democrats skipped the speaker vote to attend the funeral of Gov. Mario Cuomo (D) in New York. That gave Boehner even more breathing room, as the threshold to win required a majority of all votes cast.
Good to know who his supporters are.
UPDATE: Did Mario Cuomo’s Death Keep Boehner in the Speaker’s Office?
Christ on a crutch. The piece of shit is dead and he’s still fucking things up. Cuomos, the gift that keeps on giving.
Hey it’s a Dem tradition to vote from the grave so it’s about time those Dem politicians started doing something useful for the Dem cause from their graves.
PS Look at Jack and Ted Kennedy. In their graves and still their names are invoked in all kinds of maliciousness. For decades! Now there’s a positive Dem role model for ya.
I predicted–this wasn’t a stretch, I don’t think–that if it came down to it, a few Democrats would vote for Boehner to make sure he stayed in power, rather than someone who might actually upset the applecart.
