E.L.F Haul & Swatches #4 (Pic heavy)

The main reason for this e.l.f. haul was the Day2Night Brightening Eye Colour Palette recommended by both Cydonian and Robyn and it's the best £1.50 I've spent in a while!  There were a few other bits on my wishlist so I thought why not?!

The first of these eye palettes I got was Ethereal and I was surprised by the teeny size at first, but they're actually great for travel and I don't got through eye shadow very fast anyhow.

I am utterly in love with the taupe on the right and the second colour is a pretty good dupe for MAC Sable.  The shadows are extremely pigmented but there is some difference in texture, the best one being the taupe, gladly.

Look at that gorgeous taupe-y gleam!  You cannot go wrong with this little gem of a palette.

To feed my cream product addiction I picked up the Studio Shimmer Palette for £3.50.  I watched a couple of YT reviews on it and while it wasn't raved about I wanted to see it for myself and I'm glad I did.

e.l.f. recommend them illuminating the eyes, lips and face.  My favourite use for them is a cheek highlight as the texture is just right, not too creamy or too shimmery.  A little dab in the centre of your bottom lip over another colour can make your lips look fuller.  I haven't tried them on my eyes yet, but I'd say they'd work best as a browbone highlight.  The second colour from the left reminds me of Benefit's Highbeam.

While this lip stain in First Date is nice, it's not a must-have product and I don't know how much use I'll get out of it.  I wish I used my £3.50 on another product!  The colour is lighter and more sheer than it look in the tube and I prefer the matte look without the gloss over, but it can look a little uneven on.

Again, with the cream products, but I love my MAC Fluidline so much I had to have this Plum Purple eyeliner.  I'd actually call it Aubergine.  For £3.50 it's not bad but it's no Fluidline.  I find the formulation dryer and less pigmented and would not recommend using the brush that come with it.  I've made this work for me but you need the right tool - a MAC 210 brush.

It's a nice alternative to black as it gives the same effect but doesn't look as harsh and really not that purple!

I knew this was probably a bad idea as even high end cream eyeshadows can turn out to only last 5 minutes on the lids, but I really like these colours and again, for £1.50, curiosity got the better of me.

Although my swatches are not very impressive, the pigmentation once they're on your eyes is great.  I could do without the glitter however, as the white cream could have made a nice browbone or cheekbone highlight.  In terms of durability, there is some creasing, but it's certainly not the worst I've seen (I'm looking at your Sleek Eye Primer Palette ¬_¬) and can be helped much by the addition of a primer underneath.  The brown is great for a dark, smudgy eye.

I think I own more e.l.f. products than any other brand now! As always, any other recommendations for me to try out?  My addiction is no where near waning!

E.L.F Haul & Swatches #3 - Benefit You Rebel Lite Dupe

Oh yes, it's e.l.f. haulin' time again!  Only a little one this time...

My main reasons for this haul was a little email that popped into my inbox informing me about a £3.50 tinted moisturiser with SPF20!  A free postage Facebook code may have been involved too :) Mailing lists are enablers ¬_¬

First impressions: not impressed that the tube looks half empty...

...and slightly horrified at how yellow the lightest shade - Porcelain - is.  See kids, this is what happens when you jump the gun and order instead of waiting for beauty blog swatches!

In its defense, it is luxuriously creamy and well pigmented for what is supposed to be a sheer product. After I got over the initial shock of the hand swatch I tentatively dabbed some onto my face and I'm relived that is doesn't look anything near as yellow on my face once blended.  It also has a nice refreshing scent.  That must be the aloe and cucumber.

I'm not sure what use this dupe discovery will be to you, as I am not a fan of Benefit's You Rebel Lite AT ALL.  It doesn't give me near enough coverage - a good moisturiser and pressed powder is a million times better and less yellow.  However, I know there are many that LOVE this stuff, and in my opinion, e.l.f.'s product is the superior in texture and colour.  If you're NC20-25 it should be a pretty good match.

Benefit's You Rebel Lite

I chose this £1.50 eyeshadow palette purely for its name - Ethereal.  These palettes are tiny but the shadows are good quality for the price.

It seems like I've been waiting for the Studio stippling brush to come back into stock for years, so I pounced on it when it finally became available.  It's not as densely packed as my Coastal Scents or Ingot ones, but it's not bad for cream products, or £3.50.

The smudge eye sponge is pretty much what you'd expect, but given that e.l.f.'s eye blending brush is my all time favourite eye brush, I expected great things from its younger sister, the eye crease brush.  Sadly the bristles are very short and stumpy and it feels scratchy on my lids.  Wouldn't recommend.

As I get older I notice I'm getting that 'old lady lipstick' effect around my lips more often and especially when I use a bold colour, and nothing could look more tragic, so I'm hoping this Lip Lock Pencil, which is like a waxy stick, will help fix my lippy in place, away from the dreaded fine lines around my mouth.

There are still many products on my e.l.f. wishlist, so lots more bargain hauls to come!

Monday

February Favourites

I haven't posted a set of monthly favourites since November as nothing had really inspired me so December and January would likely have been a rehash of the same old stuff.  Okay Bourjois Healthy Mix is still in there, but I don't think I'll ever stop loving this foundation!

Last month I was loving:

Bourjous Healthy Mix Foundation - Vanille 51 - I've almost finished this and have the back up ready and waiting!

MAC Wonder Woman Lipstick in Marquise D' - see a more detailed post on it here

No7 High Lights Illuminating Powder in Dandy Pink - I've really got into using this as a finishing powder like I do with Benefit Dandelion, but sadly it's been discontinued so I must start saving it!

e.l.f Blush in Gotta Glow - definitely NOT a blush, but a fabulous pale golden highlight powder akin to NARS Albratross at a fraction of the cost.

MaxFactor Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation in Creamy Ivory 40 - have had this for ages but only unleashed it's full potential with my GOSH foundation brush.  It's like a different product! Full review coming soon.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Dolly Pink - I can't get enough of cream blushes at the moment, and while this is my favourite for the time being, the search continues as I'm not completely enamored with the small glitter particles in the formulation.  Click here for swatches.

EOS lipbalm in Lemon Drop - I use this every morning to soften my lips while I do my make up and they're in perfect condition by the time I apply my lippy.  The taste is really growing on me too.

Benefit Eye Bright - I already loved this pale pink pencil for my browbone and nose-to-mouth lines, but now I use it to line my lower waterline and it's so much more natural than white.  Love it.

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit - I love all my pots of this but this colour is beautifully neutral and looks great on it's own with some mascara and eyeliner or used as a eyelid primer. Click here for swatches of all my CCSs.

Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap has been topping my iTunes Most Played list for the past month.  This song give me tingles.  I couldn't embed the video in this post but you can check it out here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxKjOOR9sPU

E.L.F Haul & Swatches #2

I've been at it again...E.L.F. haulin' that is...

This lovely package arrive a couple of weeks ago but it took me ages to getting around to taking a few snaps and swatches.

First up, I have the warm bronzer and find that a little dark for me, so I went for the cool bronzer this time and plan to use it as a contouring powder as there are pink undertones.  It's a matte, pigmented, soft powder. It's £3.50 and I really rate the packaging for that price.  NARSesque without the rubbery feel and therefore easier to clean.

The Gotta Glow 'blush' was my main reason for the order.  It's touted in blogland as a dupe for NARS Albatross, a pretty pale golden toned highlighter.  I haven't tried the NARS one but am pretty happy with Gotta Glow, even if it is a little chalky.  I also picked up Pink Passion which I hoped would be a true dolly pink, but it actually looks neon!  Used lightly it can come off quite sheer and really brightens up my complexion.  Both are £3.50.

I took a risk and ordered this black eyeliner.  Last year I got a couple in Ash and Coffee colours and was completely let down as the 'nibs' were very dry and the liquid not pigmented.  I think ELF had revamped this product as the liquid flows easily, is decently opaque and the nib is much narrower than the earlier versions.  It lets me create a pretty nice cat's eye and is only £1.50.  I would definitely recommend this product.  However if it does dry up within a couple of weeks I'll let you know.

I already have the All Over Colour Stick in Pink Lemonade which I use as a lovely cream blush.  I've been looking for a cream highlighter and went for Spotlight (on the right below).  It's not as glowy as I hoped and slightly sticky, but it does give a nice effect.  Persimmon comes out a lot more orange than it looks online - not sure what I'll use this one for yet! Each are £1.50.

I'm a fan of ELF Mineral lipsticks, especially Barely Bitten, and was keen to try what their £1.50 offerings are like.  I chose 'Classy' purely on the name and it's turned out to be a nice bubblegum pink with blue undertones when applied.  It is quite drying, but I don't mind that too much as it means it lasts longer.

I have most of E.L.F.'s normal range and Studio line brushes, except for the new Bamboo ones but this.  I got through many eyelash/eyebrow combs as they get manky pretty fast, so I'll be getting this £1.50 ELF one from now on rather than MAC's which is about £7.  The Angled Contour Brush is from the Studio line and so is £3.50 and very soft.  Not sure what I'll do with it yet as it's a bit large for my area.  I might use it to apply powder highlighter to my browbone and top of my cheekbones, but it could also be used to draw a contouring line in the hollow of my cheeks and then I'll use a fluffy brush to blend out.

I'm already itching to place another ELF order and this is the state of my wishlist...are there any products you've tried and love/hate or any I MUST include?!  Please comment and let me know!  Thanks :)
