Before and After - Frame to Jewelry Caddy/Organizer

Monday, April 26, 2010

As you may have guessed I like jewelry. But I don't like wearing some of my jewelry in the shower, pearls and handmade jewelry especially. So I created this little jewelry caddy!

I found this neat little/perfect size frame at the thrift store. Took the picture out and spray painted the frame in my fave color. Next I picked out a fabric that I love, did an accordion like fold to create pockets, then pressed. Sandwiched the fabric between the frame and the original picture. Trimmed the excess fabric on the back side but leaving enough on the sides to pull the pockets out a bit. Then covered the back with the frame backing. That was it! You could probably tape or glue your fabric too for more support, but this one is pretty tight so I didn't. Isn't it great?!

Now let me explain something. I have one of those tiny 3/4 bath rooms. You know, corner shower, pedestal sink and not a cupboard in site. Space is very limited! Every time I wear my jewelry I forget to take it off before I go to take a shower and well, I'm left searching for somewhere to put it. Can't put it on the sink cause it might go down the drain, can't put it on the toilet cause gross! And forget about putting it on the floor cause that's just what would happen, I'd forget about it. This seemed like the perfect thing for my tiny space. It fits perfectly on the wall between my shower and my mirror.

  47. I've always remember this frame and have been trying to find one. I finally found one last week and I can't wait to do something with it. I'd love to paint it the same shade of green that you did, I've been thinking I'd like to paint it black and use it for Halloween. Good thing about paint though, I can always change it later!
