Today's Lesson:
A fur vest is a fun and versatile completer piece!

Happy Valentine's Day! So, it's been forever since I've done an actual "lessons in fashion" post, but I thought I would bring it back! I recently got a fur vest from Gap. I really don't know what took me so long to get a fur vest because it is so fun! Today I'm sharing four different ways I will wear it!

Today's Lesson:
Don't be scared to wear a pencil skirt in the winter!

Here in Iowa, weather is always an adventure. We're currently in the heart of winter. It was close to 0*F this past weekend. I love a good pencil skirt, though! I find that if I add a good pair of tights or leggings, I can make it work.  Today I'm showing you three ways to wear this gorgeous pencil skirt I received from Sweetly Made by MJ! It is such a high quality and comfortable skirt. Monique made it exactly to my measurements so it fits like a glove! Also, you have a chance to win one for yourself at the end of the post.

{with chambray and sparkles}

A chambray top is so versatile. I love adding it to my pencil skirt for a different look. Since the skirt is neutral, it could seem bland just straight with the chambray, but adding a little color with tights and a little sparkle with jewelry take it up a notch.

I'm mixing up my What I Wore Wednesday this week with a little lesson in fashion because it's been a while since I've done one and I thought what I did with my outfit planning this week might be helpful to you. A little behind the scenes.

So, my "lesson" for today is add something. Often times, I'll layout my clothes on the floor and they look just, "meh." I head back to my room and find one little piece to add, and the outfit is vastly improved. I have three quick examples for ya of things I wore this week.

Today's Lesson:
Leopard and black is a go-to combination.

Whenever I'm at a loss for what to wear, I know one combination that always works, leopard print and black. It looks pulled together and a little sassy. I love it. Here are some way I've worn leopard and black! Adding a little denim never hurt either!

Today's Lesson:
How to style a jean vest

A jean vest can be a great completer piece. It's wonderful for the summer, too, because it adds a nice finish without adding much warmth to an outfit. I made this jean vest from an old jean jacket and added the lace for a little extra detail. You can read the tutorial here.

Here are a couple ways I've worn by jean vest:

Today's Lesson:

There are degrees of pattern mixing. Find the degree that you're comfortable with and try to kick it up a notch.

Pattern Mixing can be a style that is out of a lot of ladies' comfort zones. Today I want to show you a progression of how I styled a floral/stripe pattern mix three ways. It's a slight progression of comfort. Start out small, and work your way to big and bold. Here we go!

1 - Stripe Skirt and Floral Shoes

Necklace: Kendra Scott via Rocksbox
(Use code beckygoerendxoxo for your first month free)
Top: Gap
Skirt: LuLaRoe
Cuff: Gorjana via Rocksbox
Shoes: Express c/o Brandzaffair

If you are deathly afraid of pattern mixing, getting a pair of patterned shoes is where to start! Pair them with a striped top or skirt, and you're inching your way to the next degree.

Today's Lesson:

Four ways to wear a t-shirt dress

I have to say that this dress is one of my favorites.  When I saw it on the LuLaRoe website, I knew it had to be mine! I've worn it four different ways since I got it this fall. It's stretchy, basically a long comfy t-shirt, and it has mustard in it. I LOVE mustard.

Today's Lesson:

Maternity Wardrobe Basics
I had a friend who was changing jobs recently (from scrubs to needing business casual) comment that she just wished she had a wardrobe in a bag that she could buy. It got me thinking about starting over with a wardrobe and the conundrum many women face when they are first pregnant and have to seek out maternity clothes.  It's basically like starting your closet from zero again. Sure, you can make a lot of things stretch, but the way your body changes, that won't get you through.  If you've been around here long, you know I don't like to spend a ton of money on clothes. I've had women ask me where to buy maternity clothes, and I usually end up replying, "Old Navy, Gap (sale rack), or Target."  So, today I wanted to share with you the basics I would buy if I had to start my maternity wardrobe all over again.

Today's Lesson:

  My Go-To Outfit Combo

It's been fun reading the comments from my reader survey.  I appreciate all your loving complements and some suggestions to make this place better. A few of you asked for the thinking behind some of my outfits, so today, I thought I would share one. Now, looking through these outfits, they do look somewhat different, but there is a solid foundation that pulls all of them together.  Here it is:

Go To Outfit Combo

Top + cardigan + neck wear + skinnies + boots or flats

If you've been around here long enough, you know I love riding boots.  Today I'm over at Liberating Working Moms sharing three ways to rock them!

How to combine scarves and tops

my scarf collection
So, I have a wee bit of a scarf obsession. This picture is less than half of my collection, and  I keep adding more!  Most that I own are infinity scarves just because they're easy to wear and cozy as ever.  Sometimes I know people love scarves, but just aren't sure how to wear them or match them with their clothes.  Today I want to give you a few tips on how you can mix them.

Today's Lesson:
Three ways to wear animal print pants

I picked up these cheetah print pants from Twice for about $10.  They're Ann Taylor Loft, and I just want to hug the person who sent them in because I am in love with them!

(P.S. Have you joined an online thrifting site yet?  Seriously you can get wonderful clothes for amazing deals and most have wonderful return policies! If you join Twice via my referral link, you can get $10 in credit + download the app, and you get another $10, so you could get one or two pieces for FREE!)

Anyway.... on to the outfits!

Today's Lesson:
Sequins are not just for going out!

When I purchased this sequin top at a thrift shop, I honestly had no idea how much I would love it.  I just bought it because it was cute, cheap, and I didn't have anything like it.  When I chose it as one of my pieces in the Summer Remix Challenge, I had to be creative.  Today I'm going to share three ways I styled my sequin top, though there are many more ways.

I feel like I've learned some tips and tricks through my style journey in the past few years, so I'm going to give a new series a whirl.

Today's Lesson:
Statement necklaces make a statement.
(That's why they're called statement necklaces, right?!)

Adding a cute statement necklace and a change of shoes makes a casual outfit completely different. Today I'm sharing two examples!
