I'm in Cosmo peeps!!!!

Yep, you heard me right! I am in the latest Cosmopolitan Magazine issue in the 'Beauty Hunter' section!

I was lucky enough to complete a week of for experience at Cosmo earlier this year (2012 that is!) and they asked me if I would mind being in their Beauty Hunter section of the mag for the February 2013 issue.

Would I mind?? Of course not!! What an awesome experience!!

I was soooo freakin' nervous as I am no model by any means and the whole "smile, but don't smile" thing was a bit daunting when it came down to shooting the pictures on the busy Sydney streets.

I was really nervous when I knew the issue was coming on sale this month, I was so worried the picture would look bad or I'd be pulling a terrible face or something horrific, but now that its out and on sale I'm feeling pretty OK about the final product!

Check out the latest issue, I'm on page 161!

My Week at Cosmopolitan Magazine

Hello out there!!!!

It's been well over a week since I checked in and its because I have been kicking it in the big smoke (aka Sydney) gaining some AWESOME work experience with the Cosmo Australia team!

I can not say enough about the week that was. I had the best time and am still convinced that gaining work experience with Cosmo is definitely on my list of top 5 best experiences EVER!!

I don't know why I was so nervous, everyone was so friendly! I am so amazed that these ladies even have the time to teach me or any other workie (work experience person) since they are all so busy, but every one of them still had a huge smile on their face. And who wouldn't if you got to work at Cosmo every day?!

I am so sad it's all over. I was sad after day one even because I knew I only had 4 more days left of learning and hanging in Cosmo HQ!

I got to learn so much not only about Cosmo the magazine but got a really good look into what the whole company ACP magazines is all about. I am now officially addicted. I am hooked and know that this is what I want to do for my career. It is an exciting, rewarding career that puts a smile on my face. It's competitive to get into but with some persistence and a lot of learning I think I can achieve a lot.

I was helping out with some of the upcoming issues (most particularly the Feb issue) so it makes me so excited to wait for the new issues to hit the stands to see how it will all come together! Plus there will be a surprise in the Feb issue, I'm not saying any more then that until January when it comes out! Stay tuned!!

It was a bit of a weird feeling meeting and seeing well known ladies from the magazine in the flesh (i.e. the gorgeous Leigh Campbell - Beauty Ed and Alanah Pickup - Junior Fashion Ed often seen in the mag on a regular basis!) It's like meeting celebrities that arent quite as well known but just as cool! lol (I sound slike a dork, yes. But it was a bit of a big deal for a small town girl like me!!)

I feel so lucky and so inspired. I am totally going to per sue this as a career, its my dream job after all!!

Dream big! x

The nerves are coming

I have been a little absent from my blog over the past week and I have to apologise. I have a good excuse!!

I have been back in my hometown working my little buns off trying to get some cash built back up in my so called "savings" account. This week is my official last week of my second year at uni! After my exam on Friday I officially only have one more year left of uni and I am a free woman! WOOO! I can not wait!

In other scary/exciting news, my week of work experience at Cosmopolitan Magazine (that you may have read about back here) starts on Monday!

The current issue of Cosmo Australia }

OMG!!! I am one nerved up work experience girly I can tell you that much!

Do you ever get nervous about work experience or starting a new job? I DO! I know it is such a huge experience and will be most likely an awesome week in the city but I can't help but feel a little anxious about my first day.

Not long to go now! Now all I have to do is get through these last few days of study and my exam and its almost here!!

I am hoping to be able to do a few posts about my experience in the Cosmo office so stay tuned friends!!

One lucky girl!

This week I am feeling SO lucky and very blessed!

I was in class earlier this week talking to a friend about what she plans to do once she graduates from our graphic design degree next year. She told me that she has a few things in mind but doesn't feel that confident about getting work in the industry as a friend of hers graduated last year and has spent the entirety of this year searching for a job in our field and has been unsuccessful!

This got me freaked out. My biggest fear is going though all of this study time and money spent at uni to come out with a degree (bonus) and not be able to get a job (horrible)!

I raced home and thought about some stuff. My dream after I graduate would be to work with a magazine. I have always wanted to do this for as long as I can remember. My little sister and I used to play at home and make up our own magazines and cut out stuff from Barbie mags, or Girlfriend magazine and make our own versions! (Remember this Jess???) But I have always had the thought that getting a job in a magazine is out of reach because it is very competitive to get in to.

Anyhow, I hopped onto my laptop and googled how to apply for work experience with Cosmopolitan Magazine. I figure work experience is the best way to find out how exactly everything works in a real life situation and would give me the best insight into this field that I feel I would love on a real life job basis.

(current August issue)

I sent off a cover letter and my resume (which by the way lists absolutely no work history to do with magazines or graphic design) and hoped for the best.

I thought it was the biggest long shot ever but hey, if you don't try you'll never know!

And guess what? I got a reply email back the very next day and was offered a week of work experience  with the Editorial team at Cosmo in October!!!!!!

I am beyond excited and can't believe how lucky I am to get this opportunity! I always thought getting work experience at Cosmo (or any popular female magazine for that matter) would be next to impossible!!

I can't wait, I am so stoked! This is such a big dream of mine, I get an up-close glimpse at my dream job! How cool is that?!!

One thing (on top of a million things racing in my head right now) that came to mind is that I need to do some major shopping before October to get some office appropriate/currently trendy outfits in order for the week at the office!!!! lol I've been told the dress code is "smart casual".

What do you think I should wear? Do you follow Cosmo mag on Instagram? They show some of the employees outfits that they wear to the office on Fridays! Check it out!

I am so excited!

What I'm reading now...

Today I swung by the local newsagent and noticed a magazine advertised that I'd never seen before, I popped in to the shop and bought it! It was called "Notebook:" magazine. In between study procrastination and actually doing some reading up on my exam topics I read through the mag and fell in love instantly! Where has a magazine like this been hiding?!

Its fresh and quirky with awesome "How-to's", book and movie reviews, crafty bits, homey bits, fashion and advice, its like your usual girly mag but sooo much better! It talks about tax and health and gardening (which I love) and all things fresh and lovely! I can't believe I haven't noticed it before! This months issue also came with an adorable little makeup bag - bonus!! I sound like I'm working for the magazine in the marketing dept., but honestly I recommend to check it out!

As I read through the pages I noticed they mentioned their website which is super cute and helpful too! Its http://www.homelife.com.au/ and has a link to the website's "blog" which is www.notebookmagazine.com/blogs/handspun

Also, (before I quit ranting and raving about my new favourite read) the magazine "Craft Room" is a group that organises awesome craft classes for readers and creative interested people to attend in Sydney and Melbourne, including crochet classes! Naturally I'm bummed because I can't make it to the classes (cake decorating, jewellery making, quilting ... the list goes on) because I'm ages from the city, but I just think that its so cool that there are so many crafty people out there! I love it, homemade is so the way to go!
