Chinese New Year is here again...
Seriously, im probably one of the few (or perhaps many?) who do not like CNY at all. All the hassle and visiting. Boring stuff.
The only good thing about CNY is the long holiday, the break from school. Not the ang paos..
In year 2004, i had an excuse not to visit my relatives. Same for 2005. But not this year.
Despite the loathe, i continued with the tradition of buying new clothes. An excuse for me to splurge on. Initially, i set a budget for myself - $200 for 6 items (berms, jeans, bag, shirt, belt, shoes). However, i din buy shoes cuz if i did, i would be over budget.
Oh well, i guess the ang paos come in handy after CNY then. Ha
Happy Chinese New Year!
Grab as much ang paos as you can, cuz u never know when u gonna start giving out... Lol.

Im seriously lagging a lot...
The tutorials are gonna start from this week already and yet, i felt so lost.
Well, only can blame myself for skipping lectures...
And till now, i have not gotten lecture notes for programming and this module is one that i should be cautious of.
Physics tutorial in 10 hours time and i havent read through the lecture notes yet, let alone the tutorial.
Oh well, i've been slacking too much last week already..
And i havent bought my new year clothes yet..
My 5-year-old jeans is getting torn and tattered...

Funkamania Finals
Funkamania XII was a great success and ended with a blast..
The committee has definitely done a great job this year... We had better prizes, high standards of the teams, honourable judges, and of course, the really helpful and friendly committee.. Ha.
How can one not agree when we were giving out free bottled mineral water to the dancers frequently, even to the audience and general public who were just walking along orchard road? And providing assistance to dancers who have breathing difficulties or going to faint? And even subsidising a dancer's medical fee when she got stung by a bee?
But of cuz, there were still some discontentment with the voting system for the most popular group and the redundant semi-final...
Anyway, this year's top 3 teams are all-girls teams. But they are all really good. In fact, most teams are of very high standards, which made this competition very stiff..

And all the guys in the committee.
Those who were not there on either nights to watch the performances have really missed a great show.. Ha.

New semester has started on monday..
This week's timetable is quite slack actually since there is no tutorials. The live webcast of the maths lecture is so tempting people not to attend the lecture but to stay home and watch the lecture. Ha...
And it is kinda stressful when i saw people sitting at study benches or in study rooms reading their books/notes. Come on... it is only the first week of school and people are mugging already..
Maybe it is time for me to be a full-time mugger this semester.
But only after Funka has ended.
Yes, this week will be quite pre-occupied with funka preparations. Just 1 more day to the semis already.
Yes, don't miss out the exciting semis this friday at Ngee Ann City, 7pm. There will be 16 teams performing.
And this saturday wil be the finals with guest appearance of Kelly Poon. Same place, same time.

Funkamania prelims
It was Funkamania prelims today in NUS...
I must say, all the performances by the 21 teams rock....
And i was quite impressed by how well everyone danced.
Even Daphne Khoo from Singapore Idol is in one of the participating team. And she did a flip on the stage. Stunning. And the ending pose of their act was both she and another girl jumped off the stage and landed on their backs in the sea of supporting hands from other teams. Nice work.
And i noticed how a certain dance move was repeated and seen many times in most of the teams. It was quite a standard, indispensable dance move. It was the kind where one would put their arms at their chest/shoulder area, and their hips would move in and out in a smooth and rapid motion. Well, if you have watched the music video of Hey Mama by Black Eyed Peas or Crazy in Love by Beyonce, you would know what im talking about...
Overall, the dancers are hot....
Army fetishes...

Vibrant...
Funky...
Pretty...
Cool...
And the guys in the committee...
16 teams left for the semifinals.
Do catch the actions on 13th Jan, friday for the semifinals and 14th Jan, saturday for the finals. Venue at Ngee Ann City. Time of competition is 7pm.

I didnt cheat on this....
You scored as Psychology. You should be a Psychology major!
What is your Perfect Major? created with QuizFarm.com |
I quote from my testimonial when graduating from VJC: "....a loyal friend who is always willing to lend a listening ear and offer his help to others. These strengths are certainly a credit to him, especially if he intends to pursue a career in psychology..." Written by Patricia Leong.
Even though that testimonial wasnt Patricia Leong's effort alone, it was still suggested from me that i would choose to study psychology in a self-testimony. (I pretty much reckoned that she didnt know the class well and hence resorted to such self-testimony and peer appraisal to help her write our testimonial.
So, what am i doing in engineering?
I gave myself one more semester.
Anyway, went to watch the fireworks display at the Esplanade during NYE.
That area was damn packed. Marina, Esplanade, the Merlion, the roads. The newspaper reported the figure to be 160,000 people in that area. That's insane. 3 times the number of a packed National Stadium on 9th August...
But still, the fireworks were magnificient yet short-lasting....

I like the lights they put up along the road. They looked so galactic, so celestial. They were shone onto those white floating balls in the river. Pity, i couldnt see the balls where i was standing....

My camera is lousy.
More pictures here and a video of the final 1 minute of fireworks here.
New Year resolutions: Play hard, Study harder. Be happy.
Simple.
