2007's eve

It is the end of the year again, the very last day of year 2006.

Just like last year, a little recap of the past 365 days in 2006 ... ...

January

  • Set a simple New Year Resolution: Play Hard, Study Harder. Be happy. Hmmmm... but i just got lazy.
  • As part of the organising committee of Funkamania XII prelims and finals has exposed me to the local dance scene. An eye-opener, a real experience, and continued to instill a little interest in hip hop dance in me.

February
  • Scalded my wrist with a stupid act of mine. Fortunately, it didnt leave any visible scar today.
  • Experienced a torturous Hell Week filled with tests and assignments. But in retrospect, i was sleeping quite early still. Ha.

March
  • Aspired to be a mugger weeks before exams were starting. But seems like it didnt really happen.

April
  • Realised i have gained so much weight within 2 years. And i weighed myself on 25 Dec and my weight is still roughly the same as in April. I want more mass, not fats!
  • A bad concluding semester with difficult papers, or rather i didnt study hard enough. Still, i insisted on rewarding myself at the end of everything.

May
  • Election fever - the period of time when i felt patriotic, being concern for my country. But free speech seems oppressed. Glad that CST won in the end. Ha.
  • Im 22. Felt so old.
  • Results early leakage brought some expected dissappointment and was proven to be accurate after the official released.

June
  • The Streaming result was released and finally im in Environmental Engineering - my wanted course. Yes, FINALLY.
In 2003, i was in NTU Accountancy.
In 2004, i changed to NTU Maritime Studies, but appealed to NTU Environmental Engineering later. Still couldnt get into NUS.
In 2005, i couldnt get into NUS Environmental Engineering. Had to make a tough decision between staying on with NTU Env. Eng or risking with NUS Common Engineering and hoping to stream into Env. Eng.
A choice i didnt regret, at least for now.
  • Busy with preparation of CAC orientation camp. Very tiring, indeed.

July
  • Oasis - CAC Orientation Camp finally came to an end after months of preparation. Experiences gained, memories created.
  • And i lost my wallet during the camp. Damn the person who took it. It was a gift by Lih and Co. for my 21st birthday. And i just realised i lost my handphone in July 2005. What an unlucky month.
  • A break to Melacca and Genting before school started. It has probably been at least 15 years since i last went to these places.

August
  • Watched NDP Preview LIVE at the National Stadium before it is taken down. The last time i watched NDP live was probably in year 1998. An experience indeed.
  • A CAC post-camp chalet for every one, but not many people turn up. But it was still fun.

September

October
  • The haze made a comeback.
  • Decided to embark.

November
  • Contracted the suay aura when a tree fell along the route back my home.
  • Dyed my hair for the first time at a salon. Daring, I thought.
  • My sister had her customary wedding.
  • And the white.

December
  • Attended my first EVE class outing! Paintball!
  • Reunited with my lost cards after 165 days.
  • Results leaked again, and again proved to be real. Expected better results. Oh well...

A year seems to past so fast.

Few more hours and it will be over.

More changes? Perhaps...

Coming Soon.

Official results this time

Results were OFFICIALLY out on Boxing Day, 26 Dec.

No surprise anyway. No change as what other people thought there might have.

Definitely hope the results can be better than expected, or at least as what expectations are.

Who doesnt want better grades anyway, unless it is CAP 5.0 already. Ha.

4 more days to 2007!

Merry X'mas!

Was out partying at 17 Jiak Kim Street on the eve of Christmas. But in fact, nothing much there, only had lots of styrofoam balls mimicking as snow all over the floor. Stayed till 4.30am, had breakfast and finally back at home at 7am.

But after a short sleep, it was out to meet the MgH people at TL's house for steamboat and gift exchange.

Felt so sleepy.

Hmmmmm..... results coming out soon, but doesnt have much anticipation afterall.

A stunning morning call (continued) 之 迷云165天

The caller has asked me to go to 119 Dover Road. As it was Saturday, they will be closing at 12pm and i have to reach there before that.

And so i tried to go down to this place on the same day. Along the way, i thought of the possible reasons why such a situation actually happened. In fact, it all seem too bizarre to me.

I reached the place at 12.10pm, hoping they are still opened but luck wasnt on my side - the staffs there sure were punctual to knocking off. No choice, i have to go back another day.

Hence, today, i went back again to ACS(I) at Dover Road which was actually very near to NUS.

Thanks to the futile visit on Saturday, I entered the school compound with much familiarity with the route to the place the caller has asked me to go, and in no time, i reached the Administrative Office at the ACS(I) Boarding School block.

Me: "Hi, im here to look for Yoke Lim."

Staff: "Who?"

Me: "Yoke Lim. Is there such a person here?"

Staff: "Oh, yah."

Off she went to look for Yoke Lim who was in another room.

She came out, said a few words and took out a pouch from her drawer.....

It looks familiar to me as i have one at home, but i don't think it belongs to me. Did she make a mistake? Hmmmm.... Or, did i actually lose this pouch somewhere before?? No what, it is still with me at home....

Ah, it must be inside the pouch! Im getting excited.

As she walked nearer to the reception table where i was, i realised the pouch didnt look filled up as i expected.

Wait, it aint that small, i remembered. Did she really make a mistake?

Without delay, she opened the pouch and pulled out a deck of cards........

Yes, it was my IC on the top. But then, where is my wallet as what she told me on the phone?

Yoke Lim: "A cleaner found your pouch on the basketball court on saturday. No money inside already."

Me: "Oh, actually this pouch wasnt mine. There should be a wallet actually."

Yoke Lim: "Oh really? I think you better go and replace all your cards."

Me: "Yah, replaced already. By the way, how you found out my home number?"

Yoke Lim: "Haha, the phone book lor. I went to find "POK" in the book then search for your address."

Me: "Haha ok. Thanks."

My wallet which was lost on 4 July during CAC camp was found on 16 December. Actually, my wallet was gone. What's left are the contents bundled together except a $50 note, a cashcard and my tertiery EZ-link card.

So how did it go missing in NUS Eusoff Hall toilet and end up on ACS(I) basketball court 165 days later was really puzzling.

Can it be a cleaner in NUS took it and decided to drop it in ACS(I)?

Or, can it be a NUS student took it and dropped it in ACS(I) after so long so that he/she can't be traced?

Or, a NUS student took it and gave the cards to his brother who was studying in ACS(I) and helped discard it?

Or, was it 灵异事件?

Why took so long for it to surface? And at a basketball court?

Why bother returning the cards in a pouch when he/she could easily dispose them?

During the 165 days of missing, did he/she use any of my cards illegally?

I doubt my questions will be answered.

Anyway, i've since replaced most of my cards, so returning them to me has basically not much use. But, i got to get back my old IC that has my primary 6 photo on it (which has been digitally removed. Haha. See above one instead.)

Seeing doubles?

A stunning morning call...

At 9.15am, the phone rang, waking me up...

Caller: "Hello, may i speak to Pok Yee Bo?"

Me: "Yah."

Caller: "You are?"

Me: "Yah."

Caller: "Oh, i've ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..."

.
.
.
.
.

Me: *stunned* How did that happen, i thought.

Wore out day

I think i really neeeeed to exercise more when after a tiring Paintball war, my thigh started aching and 24 hours later, i have problem walking as the muscle aches are too painful..

Didnt know squatting at low walls and running low during the game could lead to muscle ache.. Sheesh...

After dinner which had a turnout of 16 out of 29 people in the class, i actually went to play mahjong. But of course not after i went home to rest and change first.

Started at around 12am and ended at 8am. I knew my luck is coming back when a lot of times i started with somewhat average, messy tiles and then i would keep drawing tiles that i want or other players threw the tiles that i want. More importantly, i could win with powerful tiles.

In the end, after 3 rounds, i won $7.40 - the second top winner.

Hmm.. i think i've found my part-time job for this holiday... Haha

Holidaying...

3 days after the end of exams and i feel so bored already.

I've turned into a tv addict - watching more than 6hours of tv a day. Variety shows, news, drama, Asian games etc...

And cuz i watched It Started With A Kiss on tv on sunday and i've become attracted to it. Now turning to youtube to watch more episodes...

Was at Vivocity, and i kept walking in circles. Saw Patricia Mok and another female host whom i forgot her name and two other guys, probably guests to their show in a chocolate shop. Later, saw Kym Ng in a restaurant. Ha, Vivocity is a favourite for tv shows..

Feel like going overseas for break..... but no one again...

Saturday, December 02, 2006

It's over.

Another chapter closed breeds 6 weeks of holiday!

Sometimes, or everytime after experiencing a torturing period, you would really want to just slack and enjoy the holiday before another chapter begins.

So many things that i want to do, and so many things that i want to buy and indulge in pleasure (Taureans like that), but limited cash.

I didnt work at all during the May to August vacation this year because the camp has taken up 2 months of my time. Then i convinced myself to just slack and enjoy and study real hard for the semester. In a way, that vacation was meant to be a 'pre-reward' for studying hard for this semester.

Then now, should this vacation be a deserved break for the semester, or another 'pre-reward' for the next semester?

I think i will never break out the cycle of indulgence.

Lesser of the pig family?

Next year is the Year of the Boar....

Why they called it 'Boar' and not 'Pig'? Hmmm...

Perhaps my year, they will call it the Year of the Rodent.

Last paper left, the 6th and the hardest.

Hmmm, the 4th and 5th paper didnt seem any easy potential-A type as hoped however...

Thursday, November 30, 2006

2 papers a day and 2 more left.

2 papers today and i can conclude it is brain-draining and mental-exhausting.

Prior to taking the Geography paper, i thought planning and writing 4 GP-like essay questions in 2 hours seem impossible, especially when the recommended length is 2.5 to 3 pages long per question. In other words, 10 minutes to write 1 page.

However, i spent 40 minutes writing 4.5 pages for my 1st question. Overshot. And i rushed the next 2 questions and in the end, left 20 minutes to write my last question. Amazingly, within 20 minutes, i could still churn out 3.5 pages of essay. In the end, it all added up to 14 pages of essays.

Impressive, i thought. But then, i left a line between each line since the lecturer wanted it for easy viewing.

Sometimes, geography really can crap a lot especially when it has to do with common sense and general knowledge like globalization, tourism, water issues and environmental degradation due to population growth.

And I thought wearing green really brought me luck.

But not anymore after the evening Infra paper.

I doubt i can pass the paper.

But i hope im not alone.

Disappearing act..

They did it again!

During mid-term exam for Econs, they spent 48 minutes to collect the scripts, count the scripts, and recount and recount as one script was missing.

Today, the same thing happened again. The paper ended at 3pm but we were released only at 3.36pm.

Really. Is there a ghost among the students taking Econs? Kept having one script missing....

This time, the paper is relatively easier than the mid-term's. 45 questions in 2 hours, but one Indian guy diagonal of me finished it in 1 hour, flipped through quickly for checking and slept on the table. Moments later, more and more students handed up their scripts and left the hall.

But I persist on staying - doing the questions slowly as there was so much time and checking each question one by one....

By the time it was 15 minutes before the end of paper, so many students have left such that 4 seats in front and behind of me were empty. I seemed so lonely.

Anyway, such easy paper means it is really difficult for me to pull up my grades given the below average results of the mid-term's.

Oh well...

It's all about luck..

The paper yesterday proved to be a real test of luck.

With more than half of the 60 questions that were chosen based on intuition and hopefully, intellectual guess, to get 'A' for the paper is like wanting to strike Toto - You never know how lucky you would get.

Upon finishing the paper, i realised my last 10 answers on the bubble form formed a nice 'S' shape. What concidence.

But in my mind i thought: Shit!

Another MCQ paper coming this tuesday. Only 45 questions in 2-hour this time. But i doubt it is gonna be any easy, just like the mid-term exam.

Perhaps i shall wear green. It was mentioned in the newspaper's horoscope that my lucky colour is green this week.

It's all about luck anyway.

Sleep well, and do well.

Exams finally starts tomorrow! So exciting!

I don't feel anxious or panic. Don't know why. Still relaxing, like now... But certainly not because im confident of doing well, but perhaps because i don't have the pressure to do well.

Open-book MCQ? Just ti-kam lah... Might be fun.

Hmmmm.... Doesnt seem quite right this way. Ha.

似4(死)而非

4 - The magical number.

Let's see....

  • For CE2134, CE2184 and CE2407, all 3 modules' final exam paper consists of 4 questions.

  • LSM1401's final exam weightage is 40%.

  • EC1301's mid-term exam has 44 MCQs and weighs 45%. Final exam is 45% and most likely, 45 MCQs.

  • GEK1001's final paper has 4 questions on Human Geography and 4 questions on Physical Geography. And we have to do 4 questions in total (2 from each section).

  • I will have 5 papers in 4 days of exams in a row next week!

Ahh.. 3 more days to exams and tomorrow is 星期

7 days left

This semester has just ended, and is now in the 'Reading Week' phase before the war phase..

Yah, it is the reading week, not study-break week. There isnt any break from studying yet...

So which one is my tutor?

During my last Economics tutorial, the tutor said he didnt bring the attendance list and hence will take a group picture of us to mark our attendance later.

His reason sounded unconvincing. Rather, i thought he just wanted a class photo with us for remembrance perhaps....

On friday night, the muggerhood group attempted to study overnight in school. But i guess, aint quite productive it seems...

Moving from location to locations, roti prata-ing, celebrating JL's birthday, taking photos, KTVing in the noon.... 24 hours of activities are really tiring.

Sacrificing sleep in the midnight also means sleeping in the afternoon the following day. Not much difference in the end. Ha.. But still, enjoyable but tiring experience.

No, this is not JL. Ha

The lightning strikes again!

What happens when you chose the Men-In-White to hold powers?

You get 2% increase in GST...

... but I have to make the adjustments of 2% which I think is fair and I think Singaporeans will support..
- Mr Lee

Hmmmm... I thought is he making a decision based on an assumption, or rather think? I don't remember doing any survey on "Will you support an increase of 2% in GST?"

OH, we got a big hongbao earlier this year, remember?

Below 21 not included....

The Red and White

Skipped school on Friday as it was my Sis' Wedding...

A busy and tired day.....

And i received lots of ang baos - from opening of the car door, fetching my sis from the groom's house, serving tea etc. The most was 7 packets just for fetching my sis - a Teochew tradition..

Anyway, the dinner was at Holiday Inn Hotel. Saw many old neighbours and some i couldnt quite remember. They couldnt recognise me too. Afterall, it has been at least 10 years.

And i felt awkward with the way i dressed. Haha... Because i didnt wear those standard formal suit just like the immediate families but a "more than semi-formal, less than formal" way. Ha, sorry no pictures.

Think white shirt, blue-silver patterned tie, blackish-stripe blazer with jeans and my usual white shoes coupled with my coloured hair.

And i was told i look like my brother-in-law from a few people. Hmmmm....

Dinner was okay but served late and everything only ended at 11pm+.

Time for me to leave home while the couple to rest at the hotel suite. The groom was getting quite drunk from the toasting and all and couldnt stand quite straight to send leaving guests.. Lol

And now, a 180-degree change of emotions....

I have to skip school on coming Monday again, despite having a self-test for Hydraulics...

I need to attend my grandmother's funeral..

Well, she was in hospital for quite sometime, fighting against cancer until she couldnt continue anymore. She left on Thursday, the eve of my Sis' wedding. But the wedding still has to continue.

5 tables were cancelled for my mother's side and luckily the hotel understands the situation....

Oh well, seems like i really don't have much time to study....

When test's topic comes into use...

How much do you actually trust the advice given to you by sales personnel?

For instance, if that person say, this particular shirt looks nice on you, or that particular shirt isnt, how would it affect your choice?

My experience with that "La Salle" graduate sales personnel taught me to trust my own judgement, but what if my own judgement is skewed in the first place?

Was out buying a blazer and after a long time, finally found one that was nice and less than $100.

So i tried on the 'S' size. I felt a bit small and tight fitting. Ok, then tried the 'M'. A bit loose but comfortable.

And the advice given:

  • The 'S' was better for me as it was just nice, and fit to my body.
  • The 'M' may be loose a bit but doesnt give the shape.
Being both skeptical of my own judgement (whether should blazer looks body-fitting or comfortably-fitting) and his judgement, i had to perform some quick mental decision analysis on the spot.

The outcome?

Reveal next time.....

'Highlight' of the day

The $40 voucher tempted me.

I was told it was only $10 after discount for one colour and $30 for two-tones. And I couldnt resist.

It was a boring 3.5 hours sitting in that place. Now, i felt quite uncomfortable and not used to it.

Ahh... regret.

Seems like things just happened one after another in a short period of time.

The Suay Aura?

Red, green and potentially white. No, it is not Italian nor Hungarian.

Just pray and hope then.

Inglis mad ezi

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would be known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favor of the 'k'. This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replased with the 'f'. This will make words like 'fotograf' 20% shorter!

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expected to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double leters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent 'e' in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing 'th' with 'z' and 'w' wiz 'v'. During ze fifz year ze unesesary 'o' kan be dropd from vords kontaining 'ou' and similar changes vud of kurs be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After ze fifz yer, ve vil hav a rali sensibl ritn styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evriun vil find it ezi tu undrstand ech ozer.

Fall, fallen, fell, felled.

Just for info.....

fell

tr.v. felled, fell·ing, fells
  1. To cause to fall by striking; cut or knock down: fell a tree; fell an opponent in boxing.

  2. To kill: was felled by an assassin's bullet.

So, the tree felled across the tree was somewhere correct. It did experience some kind of force that caused it to fell.

But if it is wrong, just a grammar mistake lor.

Source: Dictionary.com

The aura!

It was 10.18pm when i got jolted awake by the constant jerking movement from the bus.

Traffic jam, i realised.

It was probably the first time i was stucked in a massive traffic jam late at night, especially after spending a whole day in school. I cant wait to go home and rest...

Has the 'suay' aura got passed onto me? I thought..

Several people on my bus have alighted after seeing how the bus crawled at 20meters in 5 minutes. Some walked while some crossed to the opposite road to either take cab or other buses. But I stayed put. It was just 8 bus stops away from my home!

Afterall, i wanted to know what was causing the big jam.

Minutes past but the bus just didnt seem to have gone far from where i started noticing. Several cars took the opportunity to U-turn at a junction.

Then, a police car zoomed slightly past that junction, stopped and reversed back hastily. But there was a motorcycle following behind and as a result, the police car bang onto the motorcycle. And all these just happened at the side of my bus and i got to witness it. Fortunately, the motorcylist managed to balance himself but on that police car, it left a big dent at the bumper. The police came out and apologized to that motorcylist whom only smiled and said "It's okay." Sheesh, should have demand compensation from the police!

Anyway, the bus inched its way while many cars just U-turned as directed by the police.

Then it was 11pm already when the bus finally drove past the area causing the jam.

It was a tree. A fallen tree.

It has felled across the road, occupying two out of the three lanes on the expressway, the road along MacRitchie Reservoir.

Several people were frantically sawing the poor tree into pieces and dragging to the side.

But still, a relief to finally escaped from that jam.

In the end, an usual 50 minutes journey took me almost 2 hour.

What a night.

The news here....

One after another...

Both are equally disturbing.......

One that I loathe to receive but kinda mentally prepared for it after knowing what had happened recently. But why so soon?

Another one (3-hr later) I know I would receive it sooner or later, but still, it was quite disturbing to think about what was said later.

So now, i just gotta pray for the best and no, they can't stop me.....

Uncle: "Yah, 你每次搭你会懂得."

--------------------------------

Finally, i have arrived... and paying...

Uncle: "你看, 会贵吗? 不会对不对.."

Me: (Giving him money) "Ha, 还好."

Uncle: (Returning my change) "你觉得会远吗? 老实讲.. 我们要研究一下, 对不对? 这样以后就可以走那条路... "

Me: (Taking my money, and why is he asking the same thing again??) "Yah, 不会远 (Politcally correct answer).... Ok, 谢谢."

--------------------------------

Opening my door, and stepping out of the cab....

Uncle: "Ok, 不会远hor. 以后记得一样的路leh..."

Me: (Going to close the door) "Ok ok...."

Uncle: "blah blah blah..." (He said something which i cant hear as i'm already closing the door!)

Conclusion: Don't ever say you "赶时间".

4 more weeks to exams. Quite fast huh.

Perhaps, it's time to be a....

Nothing much but enjoy the funny video. Rowan Atkinson is just too good.

Beta-ing...

I switched to Blogger Beta and cuz of that, i had to redo my template. Sheesh... Wasted my time. But nothing much change actually.

Anyway, i think i need to study harder already. Tests results so far were not above average at all. This is bad.

The after effects are distracting.

Popping with vigour

It is Deepavali today and when i was in school, there was an horrific sight in the study room at YIH.

It was filled with people mugging!

Perhaps to them, public holiday or not, it is still a saturday.

But it dawns on me that it is just 5 more weeks to the final exams.

How time flies, but i wish it can fly even faster. So fast, im eager to finish my next semester's exams too stop.

I would be excited then.

PS. I went to school today not to mug, but rather for a lesson of '4X8s'. So please don't misunderstand and think im a full-fledged mugger.

Musings...

1. Is engineerers' way of doing things different from say Arts or SOC students? Hmmm, somehow the merger of our physical geography practical group with the other 3 classmates have somewhat slowed our progress... Oh well...

2. A girl walked out of a 'Male' toilet at the Central Library. She looked embarrassed and said sorry to the guy behind her as she stepped out of the toilet. I wonder what did she see inside. She proceeded to the 'Female' toilet on the next level.

3. A guy bought two plates of fish-fillet rice from the Indonesian stall in Engin. It was closing time at 6pm+. He asked how much the rice cost while holding on to three $2 notes. He enquired, "Oh, $4.20?". And the auntie gave him $1.80 change. By the way, each plate of fish-fillet rice costs $2.60.

4. I can smell something from my jeans. I think other people near me can smell it too.

5. A sentence, a phrase, a word from anyone activates my receptive mind, such that this sensitivity is troubling me.

An action stems from a cause...

Past tense...

Just as the Biochemistry lecture has come to an end, yes, that early, my GEK project has finally finished after 3 continuous days + 2 days of doing it.

Word limit is really an irritating barrier - so easy to cross, so difficult to stay behind.

In JC, or secondary school, word limit to me was so difficult to reach the range, just so afraid of nothing to write.

But now, just so different.

The past reigned.

First it was this, then it was that. Deluded? Stunned.

Turning back.

Quirky tests...

Interesting Fun Facts Observed
in a Single Day

1. Mid-term tests should be called Mid-term Exam instead. A 1-hour 40 minutes paper in the morning and a 1-hour 45 minutes paper in the evening didnt really seems like tests to me. Besides, the cover of my Principle of Economics (POE) exam did put 'Mid-term Exam'

2. A guy sitting diagonal to me during the Hydraulics exam started flipping through the textbook and reading it just minutes after the start of the paper. 15 minutes, he dozed off without writing anything. 15 minutes before the end of exam, he finally woke up, wrote some stuffs for the first question and smiled.

3. Some of the people actually shifted their usual sitting location from the center of the LT, to the sides just for the exam. Why?

4. If you have doubts about the questions in the paper, ask the tutors. One guy besides me asked and somehow was told some crucial information of the paper. Another guy in front of me asked the tutor whether the diagram he drew was correct. The tutor answered yes. Luckily, i overheard everything, but still, didnt really help me.

5. My POE paper was difficult, which explained why it was 45 MCQs in 1hr45min as compared to previous semesters' 40 MCQS in 1hr.

6. Really, ask if you don't understand the questions. One guy asked at least 10 questions about the paper in 4 different times. The tutor was sure helpful.

7. The POE papers are given out in alternate order, meaning, there are two different sets - one set was printed in white paper, the other in blue. I only realised it at the end of 1hr45min when they started collecting. Fortunately, the guy diagonal of me has the same set of paper as me....... Oops...

8. One guy brought 3 different models of calculator into the exam hall. For what? He cant be that suay...

9. An exchange student had an English dictionary with him. Is this allowed in the closed book exam? Hmmmm.....

10. Our paper ended at 7.56pm but we were released at 8.44pm. Why? The tutors counted and re-counted the scripts, checked the floor and their surroundings, asked everyone to check our tables, floor and chairs around us, counted again and again. Why? One script was missing. Wasted my time.

Mid-Autumn Haze..

It looks like I'm in Genting....

The background flats are concealed..

Yet, it smells nothing as fresh as the misty clouds...

Minimal shaking hands...

And feels as bad as drowning in cigarette smoke

The PSI was only 60+ at evening time?? Sure or not?

Mid-autumn festival? I can hardly see the big, round orangey full moon...

Turn back time, if only

I wish im still a child.

But i still received a gift on this special day, a gift i've never expected to receive...

My computer hanged for the first time yesterday night. I pressed the reset button. But it never wake up anymore.

It died while i was typing my project write out halfway.

My gift.

I was told it's motherboard got burned.

How sad can it be.

At least, i still have my laptop.

Breaking..

Mid-term break is over soon.

And seems like i wasnt as hardworking as i wanted to be.

Mugged a bit in the library yesterday, but it was friday already... Like quite late huh.

Seems like i need to stay back in school starting from monday onwards till late everyday....

Can I finish my 1000-word write-up tonight?

Too much information received. Observed and realised. I was right.

What a weak?

Thanks to a week of full body workout, i have muscle ache all over my body now.

I had 1 hour of swimming on tuesday, 7 hours of table-tennis + badminton on friday a.k.a EVE Sports Day a.k.a Engin Day a.k.a last day of school before mid-term break and today, 1.5 hours of hip hop dance lesson..

Yes, i've just joined the dHoppers and dancing aint that easy afterall.

Now, a simple walking, getting up or down seems too difficult for my muscles to handle.

Think i should just sleep.

I need a break..

Yeah, two more days of school to mid-term break.

Like the previous two semesters, i have also set ambitious target to study and catch up with my readings and tutorials in that 1 week. Hmmm, hopefully it will not end up like last times when i rotted too much.

Discipline, motivation, perseverance.

But, to me, the mid-term break actually means, the final exams are coming! Once the break is over, it will be a through-train til the end of the semester, and 7 weeks would have past so quickly, you realise you should have studied hard earlier.

Deja vu, once again.

Hopefully, it will not happen on me this time.

Anyway, I've already spent 2 nights (research timing not included) writing on my 1000-words biochem essay and it is only 37% done. To think i actually spent 3 hours last night to come out with just 238 words of it....

38 hours left.

It took me quite a long time to figure out what points to talk about and how to link all the researches i have done. I wonder how the rest did it. Though many people took at least 3 days, or spanned over 3 days and nights to finish..

Sigh..

Ok, going back to my essay again..

Zouk out!

It was Girl's Nation Dance Battle finals at Zouk last night.

As a crew, my responsibility was just to stand at the backstage, remind the contestants when is their turn to dance, assist in anyway possible. But turn out, the dancers all were pretty familiar with the procedures and didnt need me. Besides, the main organiser, Carol was there to help also.

So basically i just watched the performance at the holding area which is at the side of the stage and did nothing except moved around so as not to obstruct the dancers who were busy practising their moves and walking around.

The dancers were all pretty good, but i couldnt judge since i only watched from the sides. The standards were quite high i guess.

There was a performance by Rhythm@x who is basically the members of Superband's Soul plus one more guy. Hmmm, standing together with them at the holding area made me feel im damn short lah.... There was Korean artiste Lee An performing too, but i don't know who he is...

Anyway, after the entire competition, it was time to party!

Among ourselves, we were entertaining ourselves, playing 终极密码 and drinking quite a lot. Somehow the supply of jugs of alcoholic drinks seem neverending. Thanks to the treat of various people.....

The crews except HC who just joined us. We were getting reddish...

Idols spotting...

Interestingly, i found this picture of Jonathan Leong at last year's Engin day in Engin Club website...

Short hair looks so much nicer...

But i thought he is in Arts?

And Jasmine Tye is from VJC and is now in NUS Life Science, I heard.

Cool.

If you listen to chinese radio stations, you probably might have heard of this new female singer 泳儿 before. Previously, she was called 陈家欣 and took part in Project Superstar last year. But was eliminated soon despite singing well. Later she went back to Hong Kong, took part in a singing contest and got second. From there, she begins her singing career.

Then, i dug out my jc photos and i saw her....

Second from bottom right. Don't bother finding where am i... KR, where are you huh? Haha..

She was my direct class senior - I'm from 01S45 while she's 00S45.

She sure changed tremendously, a huge transform...

3-day week??

Skipping school on tuesday inevitably makes this week a 4-day week for me...

Hmmm, how about a 3-day week?

Tomorrow, i have a 1-hour tutorial and a 1-hour lecture cancelled. And i left three hours of lessons...

Ok lah, wont skip.

But next friday is Engin Day - a day of fun and activities. Most importantly, all lessons cancelled after 12pm. No no, the Arts and Biz people, it is not applicable to you. Haha.

Hence, this means next friday i only have 2 hours of Biochem lecture in the early morning...

Hmmmmm.... would history repeat itself??

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

Study? Skip lah....

Skipped school today entirely because i only have 2 hours of lecture at 8am. Also partly being influenced by..... KR!

It's bad to skip school and lectures. So i try not to do it too often... HAHA.

But today, i still set both my alarms at 6am but eventually i off them and continued sleeping.

I woke up at 1.20pm. But upon seeing the nice sunny weather, i decided perhaps i should do some exercise i.e. swimming.

After that, went to National Library at Toa Payoh and look at some books/magazines while waiting for my appointment for haircut at 5pm.

Finally, reached home at 6.30pm.

My day just gone like that without studying.

Productivity = 5%

Super unproductive/inefficient I would say.

I shall not skip school any more..... i hope.

Groovy time..

It was the finals for the dance competition at Marina Square. Went to watch with the Funka comm people in hope to learn something from it.

One of the judges was Ryan Conferido - a finalist in So You Think You Can Dance? but actually i thought he didnt dance that impressive when compared to his counterpart. They are from Sicksteps, based in USA anyway...

And yes, next saturday, 16th Sept will be Girl's Nation Dance Battle finals at Zouk.

The stage has been set. The Girls are ready.

Will NUS team ENIQUE (featuring Johanna Margaret, Chew Siding, Grace Tye, Yeo Yilin & Freda Chua) do one better over NTU's WUSA (featuring Rashidah Lim, Priscilla Phoon & Magdalene Loh)? Or would ADDICTION led by SMU's Er Lixin take the dance arena by storm and declare superiority over the NUS and NTU teams?

Experience the most explosive Dance Battle Party this year. Witness the grooves by the sexy girl dancers aspiring to be the next Pussy Cat Dolls.

Who will be the first winner of the inaugural GIRL's NATION DANCE BATTLE?

Join us at Zouk for the final showdown on 16th Sept 2006!

Extras! Special shows by Rhythmax featuring Ishi, Andy, Alfred, Justis, Awi (ed's note: They are Super and they are a Band) & Yutaki, Studio Wu Dancers and Lee An from Rock Records Korea .

Check out the all-girls teams here...

Tickets are at $15 each. Anyone interested can let me know.

The mozzies war...

For several nights, i couldnt sleep well. This is extremely bad when im already sleeping late.

Thanks to the ever-irritating mosquitoes in my room.

I do not really know where they come from since i have checked my house for potential breeding grounds but found none. Somehow their numerous siblings seem to seek revenge from me whenever i killed their family.

Sometimes I thought, if i endure and let the mosquitoes bite me and suck my blood till they are full, perhaps they will just leave. It is better to have just one itchy bump from a mosquito bite than a few bumps caused by several unsuccessful half-bites.

But why cant the mosquitoes leave after one full meal? You mean their bodies can store so much blood?

Today, i was stunned when i saw not one but THREE mosquitoes flying around me. Immediately i had goosebumps. They looked like they were prepared for a combined attack.

Fortunately, i had my insecticide next to me on standby. In a swift action, i sprayed non-stop at them, hoping that would kill them.

Indeed, i found them struggling on the floor. Great..

I noticed they were still moving, but they couldnt fly. I sprayed again.

Flap, flap, flap

This time, one was pronounced dead. The other two were flapping their wings frantically on a piece of paper where i put them. Somehow they couldnt fly.

Shieldtox, your best companion.

Hmmm, I wonder how insecticide works. Does the chemical diffuse into their bodies when in contact and poison them? Or they breathe in the insecticide and get killed instantly? I don't know...

Anyway, Im glad the three mosquitoes died in the end.

Half an hour later, another mosquito came. It was much bigger in size and it flew faster than i could see it. The three mosquitoes' mother?

I reckoned it was quite intelligent as it actually followed me to the kitchen and back to my room! Perhaps really for revenge.

I suffered two bites and for the third bite, she couldnt escape from my lightning-speed palm... Then i saw my blood which she sucked.

Check that size!

Moral of story: Always be prepared!

Future chemists...

I thought this was quite funny...

Midway through our practical session, we took this photo when the TA was just standing behind us, looking at us posing for this photo...

I was still holding on to the measuring cylinder after i washed it...

Sheesh... i didnt do much tutorial or study during this weekend, and it is going to be over soon...

It's been so long....

Another email to them and this time, they replied me...

And now i can borrow books from the library!

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Where is it??

28.08 - The day when NUS Student Services Center was officially opened.

They have lined up a whole day of bazaar activity, live performances, F&B treats and product giveaways.... But i couldnt make it due to a lousy monday timetable.

They probably have spent quite a lot of effort and time to plan this event such that up to today, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED my replacement matric card!

It has been 7 weeks since my report and payment of my lost matric card on 12 July and i have yet received an email from them, notifying me that my card is ready for collection..

It should have been 2 weeks only as stated on the collection slip!

I went down to ask them when it was 4 weeks already and the reply i got was : There might be a slight delay. Perhaps you could wait a few more days and they will send you an email.

My foot. Spent so much time planning for the official opening and forgot about my card?

I emailed them back, asking them to check if my card is ready or not. And, they didnt reply me even after 3 weeks.

WTH.

Replacement time for SAFRA card . . . : 10 minutes.
Replacement time for EZ-link card . . . : 30 minutes.
Replacement time for debit cards . . . .: 2 days
Replacement time for driving license. . : 4 days
Replacement time for NRIC . . . . . . . . : 1 month

Possible replacement time for NUS Matric card : 2 month?

Im trying to be optimistic.

Click, click, click

3 days of tutorial balloting and it was indeed frustrating...

After the first round of balloting, i did not get 2 of my tutorials.

What luck.

I could understand if i didnt get my breadth module's tutorial since competition is tough.

But i couldnt understand how i didnt get my core module's tutorial slot. That particular slot is scheduled in my timetable given by my department. Yet i didnt manage to get it despite balloting two classes at the same time slot.

Second round of balloting was successful in getting my tutorials, but are not my very first choices.

I left third round to try my luck in swapping.

For the third round is pretty much a 'first come, first get + fastest finger first'.

Logging in a few times in a day, i managed to grab the only 1 vacancy for my POE tutorial in the afternoon, after no luck in swapping. When i got home, just 30 minutes to closing, another 1 vacancy popped up for my CE module. Ha, lucky. Grabbed it, of course.

So now, im happy with my tutorials... haha

Despite having a rather packed timetable as compared to *ahem*arts*ahem* people, i still have two days - tuesday and wednesday - where i will end early, but that's provided i don't have lab and CE2184 tutorial for that week. Haha..

Ahh... EVE2 class gathering this saturday, but i cant go! Will be involved in Girl's Nation Dance Battle not as a dancer, but as a crew.... sianz..

Saturday, August 19, 2006

Too tired to continue..

It was only the first week of school and i felt so worn off at the end of the week.

Besides, we only had lectures. It gonna be worse when tutorials and labs start!

I think i set a goal for this semester at the end of exams last semester. That is to pay attention during lectures and not sleep...

So far, I've managed to stay fully awake and listen attentively to the two arts modules i'm taking.

Hmmm... pretty much shows how boring Engin and Science lectures/lecturers are, isn't it?

I guess the worst was my last 1-hr lecture on friday afternoon and i probably slept 80% of the time. But, i couldnt help it when i only reached home at 3am++ after the Freshmen Bash at Zouk on the previous night. I couldnt sleep well (thanks to the mosquitoes) and i still gotta wake up at 6am for my 8am lecture.

Oh well, I just hate my timetable.

Sometimes i just envy Arts students and also those with late mornings classes!

I need to start studying.

Wednesday, August 16, 2006

Something new...

As usual, i'm never early/on time for my first lecture of the day.

This semester is going to be worst as 3 of my days start at 8am and 2 days start at 9am...

For the first 3 days of school, on average, i was late for 21.67 minutes for my lectures.

Hmmm.. I think it is time to wake up even earlier just to beat the morning traffic.

Had my first Principle of Economics lecture at 8am today. It was the first lecture at 8am that i never fell asleep at any point of time! A record.

The lecture was just too interesting. The lecturer does crack jokes, economics jokes...

And it was probably the first lecture that received claps from the students when it ended. Yes, it was only the first introduction lecture! Another record.

Ha, hopefully this will increase my liking my economics as i used to hate economics, thanks to my horrible tutor in JC!

Sunday, August 13, 2006

No more party...

The end of rotting and slacking is going to start tomorrow.

SCHOOL!

3 months of vacation just passed in a flash. And i probably spent half the time rotting. Hmmm, ok maybe two-fifth.

Anyway, im taking 6 modules this semester. Seems like a lot of people are doing that as well....

EC1301 tutorial has not slotted in yet...

No more free day this semester and fortunately, some of the labs/practicals and tutorials are not weekly, or else i will surely concuss...

Carpe Diem

It was OC chalet on thursday and the usual 3 were there early to prepare food.

Because of the number of people going, we just planned a simple buffet dinner and ended up we couldnt finish all of them. A bit wasted.

Only 6 people stayed overnight and it was too little for the huge chalet space. Haha.

Played mahjong (no real money involved) til 6am and i actually won a lot of chips in the first round. Haha..

Didnt sleep much and only 4 left when we checked out.

Still, i needed to go home and rush down to NUS for a welcome tea.

Surprising, my batch of Environmental Engineering has only 28 people while the Year 3 batch has 36 and Year 1 has 43. But it is just nice for 1 class.

At least i will have classmates for the next 6 semesters!

Not Tokyo drift...

Drifting was fun but tiring.

In 4 hours, we drifted from Groove, to Main Arena, to Pure, to 54, to Groove, to 54 and to Groove.

Slept at 6am++.

School is starting soon and im still sleeping at odd hours. The night before, i slept at 7am+, thanks to a mahjong session.

Ok, somehow people seem to stop me from quitting it.

Did some shopping on the Nation's birthday and i've just added 3 more Giordano polo tees to my collection.

To date, i have 7 of them - striped, white, yellow, green, red, navy blue and grey.

Given more time, I could probably form a rainbow. And Giordano is not that lousy, okay.

Sunday, August 06, 2006

Too random..

Nothing to talk about.

Been rotting at home for the past few days. So no life.

But still, gonna enjoy it while i can. 1 more week, and i will start burying myself in books for the next 15 weeks.

Project Superstar is coming. Ha, felt so tempting to go.

Just a dream, nonetheless.

Just some videos to entertain...

新不了情 - Nice rendition and he actually sang it at the original female key....

我要快樂, My Way.. He seemed a bit drunk, yet very emotional..

Wednesday, August 02, 2006

CORS time...

Sometimes i think Engineering has a group of quite disgusting formidable people....

There is no way i could fight with them to take Financial Accounting.

Im settled for Principle of Economics with just 1 point instead.

Stand up for........

It was NDP Preview just last saturday.

With the four tickets i've got, it took me quite some time to figure out who to ask to watch. But ended up a lot of people were not free.

Blame on my procrastination then.

Fortunately, still managed to pull people to watch, though they probably had to make some sacrifices... Ah...

When we arrived, we were just in time to see those parachuters....

Beautiful sky dotted with red parachuters..

The last parachuter with the Singapore flag!

As we were quite late, we ended up sitting quite low, probably the 5th or 6th row from the bottom level. Well, at least we got to see those performers clearly...

A packed stadium with sea of red!

Majulah Singapura!

Bomb Burst! Ahh.. Im too slow to capture all 5 planes...

Time for parade

Well, usually the parade is a bit boring and usually i will look forward to the night show and display. But too bad, im sitting at a very low level, hence, couldnt see the formation much. But hey, there is the NDP on actual day and i could watch it on tv!

And the show begins...

The precision drill that shot out fireworks from their rifles and i got them captured! Cool!

Saturn-looking light orb floating around.. Haha

This year's firework display was a bit special. They called it Musical Fireworks. Fireworks are actually integrated into the show and at times, they will burst out from the rim of the stadium and fan out....

And more nice fireworks pictures...

And they released red and white ballons into the air when it ended...

Not those big ones that they released...!

Happy National Day!
(in advanced)
