The Brony Closet

Leaving a job is never easy. Doubly so if you liked it and/or the people. The obligation to those you leave behind is, at least for me, also a bit daunting and agonizing. I don’t like schmaltzy farewells or half-hearted platitudes. But, I also don’t hold it against folks because I know it’s hard to do well and, frankly, it’s rarely worth it nor is it required in the first place. At best it is a polite consolation.

Recently, another co-worker moved on but, before departing, she dropped an incredibly long and heartfelt bomb on us via email, where she talked about where she was going, why she was thankful, and even went through each of us one by one to give a personal shout-out. It was like a giant wot-i-think about us all and it was very honest and from the heart and also just a tad psychotic but the best humans in life often are. Needless to say, she’s now set the bar super high for whenever anyone else leaves.

Review: My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks

comment on this

rainbowrocks1About a year ago I reviewed the first Equestria Girls movie and I was noticeably guarded through the whole thing. Not surprisingly: this was the first movie and it was also doing something risky by introducing a human world. It sort of connected to the main series but in a way that ultimately wasn’t important so the two could coincide and not require one or the other. Indeed, season 4 made no mention at all of Twilight’s adventures through the magic mirror portal. Well, it’s been barely a year and the sequel is here, now sub-sub-titled Rainbow Rocks.

Review: My Little Pony: Equestria Girls

comment on this

My Little Pony: Equestria Girls title/logoIt’s the “Mane Six”, only in… human form? Early leaks and promotional info was met with great suspicion and doubt within the MLP community — and still is, since many in the fandom are waiting until it premiers on The Hub in September. Equestria Girls is perhaps the black sheep (black pony? is that too racist?) of the series so far in that while it purports to exist within the same continuity (in fact, it picks up right where season three ends), it remains to be seen if the humanized stuff will be used again, incorporated into later seasons, or if this really was just a one-trick pony of a spin-off. Either way, it is the theatrical debut of the latest generation and that comes with a certain amount of extra scrutiny, regardless of any humanoid gimmicks. Does it hold up on its own? Is the humanoid stuff too weird? Is it, well… good?

Cutout of Rainbow Dash on black in profile with only her hair colored inHey, internet. It’s time we had a chat. It’s about ponies. No, no, this isn’t some birds-and-the-bees talk where I show you that mrhands video. It’s about smaller ponies. Little ponies.
