earth hour

The weekend is here, although there seems to be never ending work to be done and revised. Still, I can't help but promote 2 events here. First of all, there's this event called 'Dining in the Dark' at NUS. Not that I am a big fan of NUS since I am in NTU, but this event is organised by Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped. I shall give you people a brief description of what it is about. It literally means dining in the dark. There is a place where visually handicapped waiters/waitresses serve you food while you eat in complete darkness in a room. They will also give you tips on how to survive in the dark. I guess this will really be a meaningful experience for many. We may learn to cherish our eyes more and stop tiring them out in front of the computer daily. It's really not easy for the blind to serve the workforce but yet I have seen strong-willed and determined individuals working back when I was part-timing at Tanjong Pagar. Up next, is the Earth Ho...

singapore

It's nearing the end of the 2nd semester in my first year, and certain things have changed. For one thing, I am certainly not the one you have seen back in JC. I really don't have much idea what happened or rather I just choose to ignore it, but the point is, I don't see the same person 3 years ago when I looked into the mirror. Being in Psychology is one thing, but I have walked through a different path this time, one that is no longer confined to social norms. That being said, studying social psychology is rather applicable, in a sense that it allows you to break through social constraints without succumbing to pressure from others' view. Maybe the others don't even care. Haha. Anyway, it's alarming that there is an increasing number of inconsiderate people out there. Talk about sparing a thought for others and putting yourselves in other's shoes, I seldom see people applying it. So much so for showing understanding that, there are some parts of other peop...

foodhunt

Today was a amazingly tiring day. The few of us signed up for Food Hunt 2009 organised by NUS Arts Club and went around eating around Singapore. Haha. I didn't know they will be so enthusiastic and competitive about this game. Apparently we have to go around Singapore looking for food specified by the organisers, and along the way we supposed to play some games and do some tasks. Speaking of which, we were stuck at Sudoku for at least 8 hours. Haha. Who says guys are good with numbers? Anyway, we started off at Clementi for some Thaksin Beef Noodles, and I thought there was supposed to have some political meaning behind it. It turned out, it's just like any other beef noodles, like noodles with beef. Having an 'enthusiastic' facilitator like Alvyn, it was inevitable that we ending up feeling quite 'sianz' in the beginning. Then again, who knows, all of us came to life in the second half of the day. And so off we go to the many food stalls in Singapore, I was sur...

end of slack

I just realised that it's only three weeks left to my first paper. Haha. Actually, I should have realised that long ago. Haha. Anyway, I got back all my mid-term quizzes' results. It's satisfactory I guess, but I need to work harder if I were to attain more As this semester, or rather attain any As at all. That being said, things aren't going too well at home. Some useless crap is acting useless. If you want to start your own business and try out something called 'entrepreneurship' then go ahead and start on your own. Don't drag your family members and ask them to work for you like they owe you. Sure, you pay them and treat them as normal workers, so? They are still your family, and they aren't obliged to work for your bloody pride. I hope you fail terribly. On a side note, I am super glad that my dad escaped unharmed from a fall during work. Thank God. And, Singaporeans should start being more considerate. I have met increasingly number of people who ar...

open house Teaching award

It's been a hectic weekend so far. I got a project to hand up on today but I had to skip the class because of an interview. There are still 4 projects to go! NTU Open House 2009 came and went on Saturday. I guess everything went smoothly. It's quite an experience, even though most of the time I am just giving directions to visiters. Despite the long hours of mundane direction-answering, 2 incidents popped up along the way. Incident 1: I saw a ' ah peh' standing at in front of the notice board which states the schedules of the talks and events. Being helpful and kind-hearted, I offered my assistance to him. Me: Hi! May I offer you any assistance? Mysterious Old-Man: No, it's okay. Me: Ok, sure. Mysterious Old-Man: Which faculty are you from by the way? Me: The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Mysterious Old-Man: So what course are you taking? So he went on to ask me about my course and life in NTU. He also asked if I liked the life and environment here. Aft...

sad life

This week will be a super hectic week. Excluding the projects and presentations, I have HSS Week and Open House. Sometimes, it really makes me wonder why I joined so many activities. I am going to quit soon, from everything. I got back one of my quiz results today. It wasn't, let's put it this way, up to standard. It's not really surprising, considering the amount of effort I put in plus the amount of information I have to squeeze into my brain. It just feels, so weird, not to be ahead of everyone anymore. To think back two years ago where I was riding the winds, looking at others chasing behind, now I am the one doing the latter. It just devoids one of his/her confidence, and.. everything. Sometimes, I wonder where and what went wrong. Or maybe it is just me. I have a presentation tomorrow and I don't really feel up for it. I am running severly low on self-esteem and.. Maybe I am just not strong at all. Corroding bit by bit on the inside. It just feel like the way back...

tour wake up call

I changed my skin again, in order to stop looking like a twit. Haha. I went around Singapore again, not on Hippo Tour though. Visiting NJC was quite enriching, seeing all the private houses and well-established schools nearby. NJC seems like a very strict place, but then again, I have never studied there. Quizzes have ended for the week, with presentations and projects looming upon me. Hahaha. Open House and HSS Week are 2 additional big events too. I had a rehearsal today at Hui Qi's house for HW111 presentation next week. Work is piling up as the days go by. Today, I realised how old I actually am, when a lady offered a seat on the bus to me. This is extremely detrimental to my personal development and dealt a major blow to my self-esteem. I always thought I look old, but not that old. Oh wells. That being said, you should never ever hurt a guy's pride. Trust me, I know how this works. NTU had a second successive suicide case again. What on earth is happening? On a side note,...
