X-Press It Tripletac Glue--Transfer Medium

X-Press It Tripletac Glue

  • Water based
  • Acid free and non-toxic
  • Dries clear
  • Fast drying
  • Matt finish
  • Excellent hold.

TripleTac glue is really a multipurpose medium that can be used on paper, canvas, cardboard, wood, metal, leather and some plastics, just like today's photo transfer onto a canvas.

Materials
X-Press It TripleTac Glue
X-Press It 6x6 Canvas
Paint Brush
Photo printed to size

Step 1:
Apply a generous coat of TripleTac to the surface that your are transferring the image onto (or direct to the photo).

Images printed from a laser printer (or patterned paper) will give the best result, however, images printed on a line printer will still work if you let dry overnight, or use a heat gun to set the ink.

Place the image onto the coated surface facedown and allow to dry (24 hours is recommended, or use a heat gun).

Step 2:
Using a small amount of water, gently rub the back of the paper with a wet finger or clot, until the paper starts to pill.

Continue wetting and rubbing until the image is revealed.

To avoid patchy results take care not to rub too much in the one area.

Step 3:
Apply a second coat of TripleTace to seal the image.

TripleTac Glue can transform each and every one of your precious memories onto a canvas, leave the canvas as a traditional photo, or dress with embellishments.

This project is brought to you by Edna Morrisedie.

X-Press It TripleTac Glue - Transfer Medium - Canvas

Today I am going to walk you through the process of using X-Press It’s TripleTac Glue as a transfer medium.
I could have also called this blog post “turning bad into good”!
I will show you how to work through a process, even when things don’t go quite how you expect and not giving up on a creative thought.
Using TripleTac as a transfer medium is one of my favourite techniques to play with.
It is super easy.
All you need is a canvas, X-Press It TripleTac Glue and something to transfer. It could be a pattern paper print, a print from a magazine or a photo.

SharmaineKruijver_XPressIt_TripleTac1

Firstly the photo.
The photo is printed straight onto copy paper.
Did I mention this technique was easy?
It doesn’t matter if it’s inkjet or laser, although laser works better.
You will notice my photo is on the dark side.
I wasn’t sure how it was going to look once transferred so used the whole process as an experiment.

Once you’ve selected your canvas and printed off a photo to fit
cover the photo side of the paper with TripleTac.

SharmaineKruijver_XPressIt_TripleTac2

Then place this side of the paper down on to your canvas.

SharmaineKruijver_XPressIt_TripleTac3

Allow the glue to dry, you can use a heat gun or allow to dry naturally (which can take a few hours but best results are from waiting 24 hours).

Now the great thing about this technique is that you can use the transfer medium on all sorts of things.
Transfer on to wood, cardboard or even cardstock. Anything flat that won’t move when you follow the next part of the process.

Once the glue is dry, use a paint brush and apply some water

SharmaineKruijver_XPressIt_TripleTac4

Then working in small sections start rubbing back the layer of paper to reveal the photo below.

By working in small sections you will soon see where the paper still needs rubbing back.

SharmaineKruijver_XPressIt_TripleTac6

Be careful not to rub too hard or too far as you will start to remove the photo.
You will see this happened in small sections of my canvas. You will see that I made this “mistake” work to my advantage.
Once you have removed the paper membrane from the whole canvas give it a clean with a damp cloth (I like to use my hand that has been dampened with a little water).
Allow to dry. Then cover with another coat of TripleTac to seal the print, making sure the coat is flat or it will dry streaky (as it did on my canvas…more on that below)

And that’s the whole process.
Told you it was easy!
You can now add some paint around the edge of your canvas to finish it off.
For my canvas I took it a little step further.

SharmaineKruijver_XPressIt_TripleTac8

I have painted some layers around my photo and then covered the “white space” with some text.
I used the glue streaks to my advantage by highlighting them to emphasis texture and dimension.

Hopefully this inspires you to give this technique a go.
Why not grab your bottle of TripleTac and experiment.
Have a creative week

Be STILL my SILVER Loving Heart

This week I am having a lot of fun and many frivolous moment with Silver Leaf and the many ways to adhere it to your projects... enter X-Press It Adhesives….

I started this little mixed media with Hazel and Ruby Grey Polka Tissue Paper, adhered to the X-Press It Canvas with TripleTac.  A mixture of Texture Paste and Paint is then strategically placed using plastic stencils:

I LOVE Silver Leaf, it really adds an authentic wash of silver to our little patches of creativity and X-Press It Adhesives are the perfect way to mix up the application of this great product:

Let drops of Clear Gel Glue semi-dry, and brush Silver Leaf across their surface, for little raised bumped of silver loveliness:

Strips of Silver Leaf are added to the skirt pieces with X-Press It 3mm Double Sided Tape, the tape takes a bold impression of the Silver Leaf, a totally different finish to that achieved with the Clear Gel Glue:

The dress form on this piece has an extra little piece of Hazel & Ruby Tissue Paper adhered with TripleTac Glue.  I added a touch of red paint to white Gesso to give the chipboard a bit of colour, prior to adhering the tissue atop, this gave the text on the tissue more definition as it would be muted if adhereing direct to grey chipboard:

I have also taken bolder statements of Silver Leaf to the background, this was achieved with X-Press It Double Sided Adhesive Sheets, cutting these makes for even application of the adhesive:

Silver is the best finishing touch, and it is made super easy to apply with X-Press It adhesives, use what you have in your stash and give this great product a go, you won't be disappointed with the pep it puts in your step!

Here are the X-Press It Products I used in today's project:

X-Press It Clear Gel Glue
X-Press It 3mm Double Sided Tape
X-Press It Canvas
Hazel and Ruby Grey Polka Dot and Text Tissue Paper
Chroma Texture Paste
Jo Sonja White Gesso
Atelier Paint
Silver Leaf

I am sure I will be finding little slivers of Silver Leaf around my house for some time to come, but that's half the fun of it all.... Enjoy!

Ocean Waves Canvas

Welcome back X-Press IT Fans, and I hope you had a fabulous Christmas and New Year.

Anne here to share with you a canvas I have created using the FabScraps Beach Comber Collection and a HUGE Variety of X-Press IT Products.

Beach Comber Canvas with X-Press IT products

Products Used:

Fab Scraps Beach Comber Paper
Fab Scraps Beach Comber Chipboard

Adhesives
X-Press IT Sticky Barc

Firstly I did some prep work for the canvas, by giving it a coat of white paint and added some blue flecks into it.

Painting the Canvas and adding blue flecks

I then set the canvas aside to dry and then painted my Ocean Waves Chipboard.

Painting Chipboard

Once the chipboard was dry, I then used some X-Press IT Clear Glue to coat the top, which creates an awesome clear gloss accent when dry.

X-Press IT Clear Gel Glue makes an excellent glossy coat.

Once the canvas is dry, I took some Beach Combers Patterned Paper, and cut it down to be about 7" wide, and then tore it into four pieces.    I have then used X-Press IT Triple Tac to adhere it to the canvas, in layers, with a layer of crumpled Cellophane between.

Using X-Press IT Triple Tac on Canvas

X-Press IT Triple Tac as Adhesive for canvas

Then, using the Triple Tac, I have used a cloud template, and put the triple Tac onto the template to create two cloud shapes and then sprinkled with Shaved Ice.  the Triple Tac is and excellent adhesive for applying these type of products.

X-Press IT Triple Tac and templates

I have then used some of the X-Press IT Sticky Bark, which is so easy to adhere to chipboard elements.  Just peel back the adhesive, then place your chipboard face down.   You then use a craft knife to cut around the outside of the chipboard element.

Using X-Press It Sticky Barc to cover Chipboard Elements

I love creating layers, so the next step was to start using some X-Press IT Foam Tape.
Using X-Press IT Foam Tape to add Dimension

Using it just gives a lift to some elements on your page.

If you want to layer, so I wanted my picture to be on the same level as the lifted element, I made sure that I worked out where to put my Foam Tape before adhering it.

Using X-Press IT Foam Tape to add Dimension

Ever wondered how to make string stay in the right place.  Well I discovered the X-Press It Glue pen is THE solution.  Just draw where you want the string to adhere to then press the string into position.

Need EXTRA lift, I am known to double up my foam tape.

The X-Press IT Gel pen is also the perfect solution for adding little details of glitter.

And don't forget it is the PERFECT tool for gluing on your sequins.  Just draw a dot, where you want your sequin to go, then drop the sequin into position.

After adding a couple of other embellishments, and doing some doodling, here is the final canvas.

Vintage Glam TripleTac Style

Welcome to another X-Press It Tutorial, this week we are focusing on the use of TripleTac to transfer images to canvas.  Here is what I started with for the photo transfer element of this piece:

I used a fashion photo for my canvas by the very vintage-ly talented karen radkai, it spoke glamour to me, and I knew the muted tones would work well once transferred, and mesh nicely with a good splash of glitter.

You can print off any photo that you have and use the image transfer technique to achieve the same look.  There is a little video on the image transfer technique at this link, and the instructions are also provided on the side of the packaging on each tub of X-Press It TripleTac Glue.

The first step in the image transfer technique is to apply X-Press It TripleTac Glue to the image, apply a good coverage of TripleTac Glue, all the way to the edges of the image, and then simply press the image, face side down, onto the canvas.  Make sure the glue and image makes good contact with the canvas by running your hands across the top of the covered canvas and pressing firmly as you go.

The next step involves an overnight wait, or 3 hours in a warm environment... or you can do what I do and dry it with a heat gun.  The aim is to ensure that all the moisture leaves the glue.  Once you are confident that the glue has dried it is time to reveal the image...  This is simply achieved by taking the same paint brush, but dipped in water, and wetting sections of the covered canvas, then using your fingers to rub the paper backing away from the image.  It is best to work in small areas, re-wetting the areas as you move along, and slowly removing the backing paper.

Once you have revealed your image, which will be in reverse to what you printed, leave to dry for a while, once dry you will be able to determine if you have removed all, or enough of the backing paper. The amount of backing paper you remove is totally up to you, the more you leave on the more shabby chic your end result will be.

I chose this image with the intent of gifting a little "It's OK to be Glamorous" Canvas to a fashionista friend, and also because it had some specific details that would take extra bits of glam.  I wanted to feature the necklace and chose some silver beads from very deep in my crafting stash, applying a pool of TripleTac Glue directly atop the outline of the necklace on the image, then it was as simple as pooling the beads on top, waiting a few moments for them to settle and then tipping the canvas upside down to remove the excess.  TripleTac is super strong, so the beads will stay in place forever more!

Then for a little bit of different texture I took two different sizes in the Glue Marker and Glue Pen to the front of the dress, adding a thicker line across the top, and dots of glue on the frills on the front of the dress, spilling glitter glass in this section to adhere to the two different sizes of glue...

A quick quote printed and cut up to add a touch of sentiment and the elements of this were finished... you will note that I have painted the sides grey first, and then covered with silver paint, extending some of the paint to the front of the canvas to continue the shabby feel.

You can leave the canvas as is, in this case I wanted a gloss finish, so have gone back over the entire surface with TripleTac Glue, which now serves the purpose of a sealer.  This leaves a glossier finish, and also allows some of the colour from the original image to deepen again.

You could use your own photos, magazine images or scrapbook paper to transfer onto such canvases, the results are endless!

Here is what I used in my tutorial today:
X-Press It TripleTac Glue
X-Press It Glue Marker
X-Press It Glue Pen

Have fun with this technique, dig deep in the stash and see what you can find to secure with the amazing X-Press It TripleTac Glue and Glue Markers!

Thanks for tuning in, Edna.
