Aeonaxx - Reins of the Phosphorescent Stone Drake

Originally I wasn't going to write up a post on Aeonaxx, mainly because my first attempt at a blog (Find Aeonaxx) was entirely devoted to him and I already have a link to it on my sidebar. However, recently I've noticed a lot of traffic on that blog coming from this blog through the search term Deepholm, and figured it was about time I consolidate some information. 

 

For anyone unaware, Aeonaxx is a level 85 rare elite dragon that spawns in Deepholm and drops the coveted mount: Reins of the Phosphorescent Stone Drake.  Aeonaxx is very similar to the Time-Lost Proto-Drake, as far as having a ridiculous spawn timer and sharing that spawn timer with another npc. The way to kill this rare though is quite different.

The Fight:
 

When Aeonaxx first spawns in he will appear friendly to players and the portrait around his head will show that of the typical silver dragon. Upon flying closer to him when you are in range a green "vehicle" arrow will appear. (See picture below.)

Once you have mounted Aeonaxx, he will turn hostile and his portrait will turn into a golden "elite" dragon and the text on your screen will read "Kill Aeonaxx before his whelps overwhelm you." 

Thartuk the Exile

Thartuk the Exile is a rare level 81 with approximately 74.3k health. He can be found wandering the road in northern Mount Hyjal starting at Nordrassil and continuing all the way past the Circle of Cinders. Do not be fooled by NPCScan overlay with this guy, it currently doesn't show the exact patrol area. He actually spawns much closer to Nordrassil than the overlay implies. I re-did the overlay patrol area in green on the map below to give you a better idea of where to look for him.

Thartuk the Exile drops Thartuk's Inimitable Gauntlets, which are bind on equip item level 325 physical dps leather gloves. He also drops around 20 gold, and for leveling characters killing him yields a hefty amount of experience. 

Overlord Sunderfury

Overlord Sunderfury is a rare level 83-85 elemental ascendant with approximately 155k health. He spawns in only one location, and that is at the Black Breach right in front on the Eye of Twilight which is used for the quest A Vision of Twilight and its follow up quests. The location he spawns at is shown in red on the map below.

Overlord Sunderfury drops Sunderfury's Sundries, which are bind on equip item level 345 cloth pants. He also drops around 20 gold, and for leveling characters killing him yields a hefty amount of experience. 

Garr

Garr and his Posse

Straight out of Molten Core, I'd like to introduce...Garr! Yes, he's back. No, he doesn't drop his bindings. Garr is a level ?? rare rock elemental outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. He can be found patrolling west of Sulfuron Spire in southern Mount Hyjal. I have indicated his patrol area in red on the map below.

As of patch 4.1 Garr drops one guaranteed purple item. He drops Garr's Reinforced Girdle of Memories which is a bind-on-equip item level 359 physical dps plate belt. He also drops about 450 gold, another epic item and some nice jewelcrafting designs.

He is one of 5 rare outdoor bosses added in Cataclysm. There is one in each Cataclysm zone. All of these bosses are:

Garr - Mount Hyjal

Julak-Doom <The Eye of Zor> - Twilight Highlands

Mobus <The Crushing Tide> - Vashj'ir

Mobus <The Crushing Tide> is a level ?? rare outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. He can be found patrolling around the Abyssal Breach in Vashj'ir. I have indicated his patrol area in orange on the map below. He is very large and can be spotted easily from far away.

As of patch 4.1 Mobus drops one guaranteed purple item. He drops Mobus's Dripping Halberd which is an item level 359 physical dps polearm. He also generally drops about 200 gold, another epic item and some nice jewelcrafting designs.

He is one of 5 rare outdoor bosses added in Cataclysm. There is one in each Cataclysm zone. All of these bosses are:

Julak-Doom is a level ?? rare outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. He can be found in the Twilight Highlands in the northern most part of the zone patrolling just north of Kirthhaven. He is very large and can be spotted easily from far away.

As of patch 4.1 Julak-Doom drops one guaranteed purple item. He drops Vitreous Beak of Julak-Doom which is an item level 359 caster dps dagger. He also generally drops about 200 gold, another epic item and some nice jewelcrafting designs.

He is one of 5 rare outdoor bosses added in Cataclysm. There is one in each Cataclysm zone. All of these bosses are:

Xariona

Xariona is a level ?? rare outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. She can be found in Deepholm flying extremely high in circles above the Temple of the Earth. She flies very quickly and can fly in both clockwise or counter clockwise directions. She is also notorious for getting Aeonaxx campers excited when NPCScan goes off.

As of patch 4.1 Xariona drops one guaranteed purple item. She drops Xariona's Spectral Gauntlets which are item level 359 mail physical dps gloves . She also generally drops about 20 gold, another epic item and some nice jewelcrafting designs. 

She is one of 5 rare outdoor bosses added in Cataclysm. There is one in each Cataclysm zone. All of these bosses are:

Akma'hat - Dirge of the Eternal Sands

Akma'hat is a level ?? rare outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. He can be found in Uldum to the west of Obelisk of the Sun. He spawns in only one location (marked in blue on the map below) and he does not move from it or even patrol. He just stands there waiting to be killed. 

As of patch 4.1 Akma'hat drops one guaranteed purple item. He drops Belt of a Thousand Gaping Mouths which is an item level 359 leather physical dps belt. He also generally drops about 200 gold, another epic item and some nice jewelcrafting designs.

He is one of 5 rare outdoor bosses added in Cataclysm. There is one in each Cataclysm zone. All of these bosses are:

Cyrus the Black

Cyrus the Black is a rare non-elite hostile level 84 winged Neferset Guardian with approximately 96.7k health. He spawns in four different areas in the oasis just outside the Lost City of the Tol'Vir in Uldum. The locations he spawns at are shown in green on the map below.

Cyrus the Black drops Tol'Vir Hereditary Girdle, which is a bind on equip item level 308 mail caster belt. He also drops around 20 gold, and for leveling characters killing him yields a hefty amount of experience.

NPCScan Alert

Size Comparison

Mysterious camel figurine is a level 1 item with only 42 health that can be found pretty much all over Uldum. Using the addon tomtom I have indicated most (maybe all?) off the spawn locations below on the map with little green dots. They do not move, they are completely stationary and they are very small. They are also affected by Deathwing. If he comes through Uldum any figurine that is up will be annihilated.

95% of these figurines when clicked will become Crumbled Statue Remnants, which is a grey item that vendors for 25 gold. However 5% of the time upon clicking you will be enveloped in a cyclone for a few seconds and then teleported to the steam pools in Feralas. You will also be given a debuff called Dormus' Rage which will allow you 20 minutes to find and kill him.

Armagedillo

Armagedillo is a non-elite hostile level 84 HUGE armadillo rare spawn with approximately 129k health who spawns in an area filled with bones just west of Orsis in Uldum. The location he spawns at is shown in red on the map below. He is quite obvious when he is up because...well...he's HUGE, and he stays pretty much in one place. 

Armagedillo drops Armagedillo's Tail, which is a bind on equip item level 312 two-handed physical dps mace. He also drops around 20 gold (why an armadillo is carrying cash I can only wonder...), and for leveling characters killing him yields a hefty amount of experience. 

Madexx

Madexx is a level 84 rare scorpid that shares the same model as the horde mount Kor'kron Annihilator, the reward for reaching guild level 25. Madexx comes in 5 different colors. Each color has it's own npcscan ID and the colors that spawn are completely random. He comes in red (pictured above), blue (pictured below), green (pictured above), black and brown. Madexx can be found in the northern part of Uldum and he is very easy to spot because he is huge compared to the npcs around him. I have highlighted his spawn points/patrol areas in orange on the map below. NpcScan highlighted the entire region between Obelisk of the Moon and the river but note that there are actually five different locations that he will spawn in and never patrol far from.

Madexx was meant to be a hunter pet. All he drops is a Crystalline Tear of Loyalty. If you see him up please ask a hunter friend to come tame him or announce that he is up in general chat, but please don't kill him.

Terrorpene

Terrorpene is an ultra cool looking level 81 rare turtle. He shares the same model at Nemesis the elite quest npc which you more than likely have encountered if you've done any questing through Mount Myjal. Terrorpene can be found moseying along in the molten lava east of the Sulfuron Spire. (I have highlighted his patrol area in green on the map below.)

Terrorpene was meant to be a hunter pet. All he drops is a Crystalline Tear of Loyalty. If you see him up please ask a hunter friend to come tame him or announce that he is up in general chat, but please don't kill him.

Magria

Magria is a rare spirit beast cat with approximately 232k health and is located in Mount Hyjal in The Regrowth. She is one of 10 new rares put in place as a challenge for hunters to tame in patch 4.2.  (Full list at bottom of page)


I have highlighted the area she patrols in purple on the map below. Magria shares a spawn timer with Ankha who is a very similar looking spirit beast. (Magria has a very pretty blue hue.) Their spawn timer is somewhere between 6 and 17 hours. The NPCScan id for her is 54319, you will need to add it to NPCScan in order for it to find her. You also need to have completed enough quests in Mount Hyjal to have unlocked the daily quests at The Sanctuary of Malorne to be able to see Ankha and Magria. The final quest before unlocking the dailies is Aessina's Miracle.

Sambas

Sambas is a level 85 hostile rare spawn with approximately 116k health that can be found in several different locations in the Twilight Highlands. The areas Sambas can be found at are located in green on the map below. In my opinion hes one of the best looking tamable hunter pets currently in game. He shares the same model as the Golden King mount, which is the reward for reaching guild level 25. 

Sambas is a tamable HUNTER PET. If killed all he drops is a Crystalline Tear of Loyalty. Non-hunters please leave him alone so that he can be tamed.

Taming: You NEED to be level 85 to tame Sambas because he is a level 85 mob. He is a non-elite so he doesn't hit very hard. In the video below I am taming him on my newly dinged 85 hunter with no traps or special abilities used and he didn't even get me below 70% health. You do not need to be BM spec to tame him as he is just a cat with a unique model.

Sambas' NPCScan ID is 50159. Also, when your flying above his spawn points look for the red dots on your mini-map as he is aggressive. Before looking for him also remember to clear your cache if your using npcscan to search for him. Almost every time I'm in a capital city he is instantly cached.

Sambas is also unaffected by phasing within the zone. It doesn't matter how many quests you have done in the Twilight Highlands, if he's up you will see him. He also seems to have roughly a 6-24 hour spawn timer.

Tarvus the Vile

Tarvus the Vile is a non-elite hostile level 85 dragonkin rare spawn with approximately 116k health who spawns in the southern most cave on the western side of the Obsidian Forest in the Twilight Highlands. The location he spawns at is shown in blue on the map below. He generally doesn't stay alive for too long once he spawns in as he is in a high traffic area where people are questing and mining.

Tarvus the Vile drops Tarvus's Poison-Scarred Boots, they are bind on equip item level 346 caster leather boots with one red socket. On the ah they should land you a couple hundred gold or they would make nice starter boots for a caster druid. He also drops around 20 gold, and for leveling characters killing him yields a hefty amount of experience. 

Blazewing

Blazewing is a non-elite hostile level 81 rare phoenix with approximately 93k health who spawns in The Scorched Plain in Mount Hyjal. He looks just like Al'ar the Phoenix God, and my all time favorite mount in game Ashes of Al'ar. The location he can be found at is shown in blue on the map below. 

Blazewing drops Blazewing's Furious Kilt, which are bind on equip item level 346 leather caster pants with two sockets. On my server they sell for approximately 1,000 gold. He also drops around 20 gold, and I imagine for leveling characters killing him yields a hefty amount of experience. 

Deth'tilac

Deth'tilac is a level 85 rare spawn (added in patch 4.2) with a whopping 77,490,000 hp. He can be found in the Molten Front behind the Forlorn Spire. I have indicated where he is located in green on the map below. This is strictly a TAMABLE HUNTER PET. If Deth'tilac is killed all he drops is a Crystalline Tear of Loyalty. If your not planning on taming him, don't be a douche. Leave him alone. More importantly, if you play a hunter and you find another hunter kiting Deth'tilac and doing all the work to tame him please don't try and steal the tame. If anything, help out by throwing a couple of extra traps in front of Deth'tilac to help out. I know the saying is trite, but what goes around comes around.  

Lady La-La

Lady La-La is a non-elite hostile level 81 Naga rare spawn with approximately 74k health who spawns in The Clutch in Kelp'Thar Forest in Vashj'ir. The location she spawns at is shown in blue on the map below. She is easy to spot compared to other Naga in the area, as she has a unique model. 

Lady La-La drops Lady La-La's Singing Shell, a bind on equip item level 292 (equipable at level 80) healer trinket. On my server it sells for a couple hundred gold. She also drops around 20 gold, and for leveling characters I'm sure killing her yields a hefty amount of experience.

Poseidus - Reins of Poseidus

Poseidus

Poseidus is a highly sought after hostile level 81 rare seahorse with approximately 55.8k health who spawns in the under water zone Vashj'ir. He has four different spawn points in the Shimmering Expanse (they are shown in orange on the second map below). He also has one spawn point in the Abyssal Depths in the southern end of Underlight Canyon (that is where I found him).

Poseidus has a 100% chance to drop Reins of Poseidus, which is a bind on use seahorse mount that can be summoned anywhere in game under water. I have seen very few of these on the Auction House on my server. The few I have seen have generally be listed for about 100,000 gold. He also drops a hefty amount of gold, when I killed him he dropped around 99gold. He also tends to be very generous with other loot, often dropping item level 359 bind on equip gear and pricey formulas and designs. (When I killed him he dropped Blockade's Lost Shield and Formula: Enchant Bracer - Major Strength.) 

Subdued Seahorse - Learned from Reins of Poseidus

Nobody (other than Blizzard) knows the exact spawn timer that Poseidus is on, but from information I've gathered its a pretty long one. It is probably as least 72 hours, making this mount very rare indeed.
