ZION---the first of our mini vacations this year

As a family we decided that we are going to stay in Southern Utah this year instead of going on a big family vacaiton. We are going to be tourists and take in the beautiful sites that people around the world come to see. Zion, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Kodachrome Basin, Lees Ferry, Lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, and Pipe Springs. We have lived in southern Utah for 15 years and have never been to these places as a family. So this is the year we are going to see them. You will see a new member of my family in the pictures his name is Jordan. He is my sisters son who is staying in Kanab for the summer working at the pool.

This past weekend we went to Zion to hike the trails and have some fun. The kids have been to Zion on field trips but we haven't been there as a family in quite a few years except to drive through to Hurricane and I don't remember the last time we actually stopped and hiked there.

First off we stopped at the trail that is just on the east side of the Big tunnel. It is quite the hike but the view at the end is beautiful (the height was little terrifying for me). It looks over the switchbacks.

This is a cave on the trail.
The boys were ahead of us and decided to rest.

We parked at the Visitors Center and boarded the Shuttle that takes you into the canyon.

Not that long ago you could drive your car into the canyon but now you have to take the shuttle or walk.

The Temple of the Sinawava is where the Narrows end. It is about a 1.5 mile hike but pretty flat. It was beautiful there. lots of trees and ferns.

Our next hike was Weeping Rock. It is soooo steep and we were all tired but we make it to the end. This picture is of the boys coming down but you can see how steep it is.

When I got there this is what the boys were doing. (I hope they don't get sick)

Here we are waiting for the Shuttle to pick us up again. We had a great day but were really tired and ready for sleep.

TO BE SUMMER OR NOT TO BE SUMMER...

School is out and so technically it is summer vacation. But the weather says otherwise. It has been cool/cloudy/rainy so far. For those of you who do not like summer I am sure that you are loving this, but for me this is not fun. I wait all year from September on for the heat to come back. I love the heat of the summer. Stuart keeps telling me that it is suppose to warm up and I keep saying BRING IT ON!!! But no such luck yet. I am hoping soon though. It seems that we(our stake) are always fasting for rain and moisture which we need but can't we have alittle bit of warmth too.

RELAY FOR LIFE--We walked and walked and walked.

Friday night we participated in the Kane County Relay for Life. It was really interesting and we had a great time. Thanks Robin for inviting us to join you. Jessica and I were on Wade's Warrior team (in memory of Wade Coleman). Stuart and Jordan were on the EMT team. We walked on Friday night from 9 - 11 and Saturday morning from 6:30 to 8. Jessica figures that we walked about 10 miles each. It was really cold that evening and night but we braved it and did what we set out to do. Thanks to all those who donated. It was successful and hopefully next will be even more successful.
