OIT

Will completed his OIT, which stand for "Oral Immune Therapy" or better known as peanut desensitization.  We began in December 2010, 2.5 years ago. When we took on this challenge,we knew it would be a long road, but we knew living with a life threatening food allergy was way worse than 2 years of our time and more dangerous for Will.
Will and I spent many, many hours in Dr. Nash's office during the last two years and he was a real trooper always taking his "peanut medicine" and not having any physcial activity for 2 hours each day.
Last month, we tested Wills blood level, otherwise know as his IGE, and it had finally come down, showing us the hard work had paid off.  Dr. Nash set him up for a food challenge this past week and Will passed, we were so excited!  He ended up eating the equivalent of 34 peanuts!!!  Wow!

What's next? Now Will needs to eat at least a tablespoon of peanut butter or the equivalent (ex. 5 mini reese cups) each and every day.  He is still allergic to tree nuts, so we have to be careful which nut products we buy.  It was so weird having to go and buy peanut products, something we haven't had in our house in four years!'
Will trying his first peanut butter and fluff and peanut butter and jelly~
He wasn't crazy about it at all!

Some of the peanut products we bought!  He likes most of them, just not crazy about the peanut butter itself!
