Lighthouse View

The Patchogue Lighthouse is small (22 ft high) and is located in Sandspit Marina. This solar powered lighthouse was erected in 2019 and guides recreational sailors and Fire Island Ferry Captains in and out of the Patchogue River.

Burito Mariachi

Several Mexican themed restaurants have opened in and around Patchogue, like Burito Mariachi. I haven't tried this one yet, but it was bright enough to catch my attention.

Patchogue Shore Line

This was painted down along the shore in Patchogue from one of the parking areas that extend out with a dock as part of the marina. I turned around and faced the town instead of the water.

Around Locally

I've been sketching a bit around locally. This is the back deck of a restaurant in Patchogue that is right on the canal called Harbor Crab.

I did stop into Sayville Bean for a capuccino and a sketch the other day.

This house was up in Smithtown among the historic houses.

You know how I love the street corners in the small towns. This was sketched of the East Moriches Hardware Store.

Arts on Terry

Arts on Terry was recently held in Patchogue. Two of my art groups were represented. The Patchogue Sketch Club once again did a group project...this time we did printing. I posted a few photos of the group in action carving the plates and printing on paper and on fabric. Here is what our wall looked like...although it was hard to get the whole wall without a lot of glare on the pieces. The lobster prints were mine.

My favorite part of Arts on Terry is seeing the live paintings that are created. My friend, Nora Francese was painting nearby, so I sat and sketched her at work.

A friend's friend snapped a photo of me sketching Nora.

Here is Nora almost finished. She started at noon and was painting until 5 PM. There were somewhere between 8-10 artists selected to do the large paintings. They are always impressive!

In addition to the wall with our prints on it, our group had a table with assorted merchandise as well as paintings and sketches on display. Here are a few of the members of the group.

Drift 82

Drift 82 is a seafood restaurant along the canal by Sandspit Marina in Patchogue. I sketched along the outside deck of the restaurant and caught the hostess and a waitress in action. If you look at the mileage markers on the right, all the places listed are Fire Island Beaches. From the Sandspit Marina you can catch a ferry to some of them.

Week's Boat Yard Barn

I can always find a view of something to sketch at Week's Boat Yard. It would be interesting (but impossible) to see how many sketches and paintings I have of it. lol

30x30 Direct Watercolor #22 Meadow Croft & Flowers

The lawn at Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville had some lovely yellow flowers...perfect for a 30x30 Direct Watercolor.

The Patchogue Sketch Club went to the Swan River Preserve in Patchougue the other night. The foliage there is so tall it is hard to find a view to sketch. I ended up focusing on some small flowers against the slats of the fence.

Berry Tart

A while back we were invited to dinner at a friend's house. I asked if I could bring dessert and went to a French bakery,  Mademoiselle Patisserie in Patchogue where I bought this delicious berry tart.

Weeks Yacht Yard

The other day I decided it had been too long since I had done a digital sketch outdoors so I grabbed my iPad instead of my sketchbook. I've sketched this view of Weeks Yacht Yard many times but this was the first time I sketched it using Procreate.

Lifted Up

Here on Long Island there have been a lot of houses that have been lifted up due to flooding conditions from the hurricanes and storms we've had in recent years. This house down by the water in Patchogue was lifted up recently. There is a new foundation ready. It will be interesting to check on the progress with this house. I love the steel beams coming through the house and out the sides.

That sketch reminded me of construction. Here's some equipment I came across.

Fog by the Water

I sketched by Dublin Deck in Patchogue the other day. There was a lot of fog moving in and out as well as some drizzle. I was in my mobile studio sketching the view.

Mastscape Over the Fence

I like this mastscape over the fence. You can only see a small part of the boats at this marina in Patchogue. It is the masts and rigging that tell the story.

Starbucks and Blueberries

While we were having our wet/dreary weather I ventured out to have coffee at Starbucks. It is far from my favorite place for coffee, but it was indoors. They recently finished renovating this particular Starbucks in Patchogue to make it a "drive thru." I'm not impressed with the results as a sketcher. Instead of having some tables and a few comfy chairs, all that was replaced with a few high stool tables in a row and then behind that against the wall with windows one row of small tables. The customers sitting at those tables were all to my side so there was no view of them. I had to hope for someone to sit at the high stool table, but as soon as her order this lady was ready and out of there. It is not condusive to having people in various positions hanging out for a while. The people that were there a while were sitting to my right and left and unless I wanted to face them directly I had no view of them for a sketch. I guess I won't be rushing back there.

While sketching for the hunt on creativespark.art the item to sketch was berries.
I used Procreate for this sketch.

Usk Sketchmas Days 10 & 13

I wasn't able to do the prompt for Usk's Sketchmas day 10 when it came up. The prompt was for a "sketcher" and I knew I wasn't going to be anywhere with another sketcher until tonight. My sketch group met at the new Starbucks in Patchogue and our theme was kitchen tools. I did a few of those but my main focus was on Marianne who was sketching across the table from me.

The prompt for day 13 was a "beautiful shoe." This sketch was actually done a few days ago when I was at Macy's in the Lake Grove Mall. I couldn't find a spot to sit close to sketch these so I stood by them in the shoe department, did a pencil sketch, and then sat a distance away from them to add the color. They were great but not something I would ever wear without killing myself. lol

Alvarez Pizzeria

I pass this pizzeria quite often when I go into Patchogue and think about sketching it.

I've never tried their pizza but it was a fun place to sketch.

Lighthouse and Gull

This was sketched down at the Sandspit Marina in Patchogue. Wasn't it nice of the gull to pose with the lighthouse nearby? This is another sketch in the Arteza sketchbook for the SBAA project.

Commission

A client had contacted me in the winter and told me she had seen a painting I had done of Weeks Yacht Yard for someone. She was interested in having me do one for her to be given to someone as a Christmas gift. Since I enjoy sketching and painting there I readily agreed but told her I couldn't do it at that time because all the boats there were still shrink wrapped. Spring came and went and summer arrived. It took me a while to get around to doing it because I was waiting for nice weather and tolerable temperatures. I ended up doing it over 3 or 4 days because I wanted to work on it at the same time of day so the lighting would be similar. Today I finally delivered it to the client and she was thrilled and is certain that the intended recipient will love it too.

Swan River Bridge

The Patchogue Sketch Club went to the Swan River Preserve recently. When it first opened it had good views but over the last few years the foliage has gotten so tall that most of the water is blocked and all you see is green. I found a spot with a view of the bridge and that and the contrast in the foliage color gave me a focal point. The area to the back was lit by the sun so I painted that first because I knew as the sun moved down in the sky we would lose the light there.
