Galrauch WIP: 25,000 Views

BA-GAWK! Thanks to my readers for the 25,000 views. I hope something you have seen here has inspired you to paint something in your hobby. I wish to pay it forward for those that have inspired me.
Galrauch has been a very enjoyable paint process. His red is super easy in that I primed yellow spraypaint, washed twice red, and washed twice purple. Boom. Easy red.
This is after the first red wash and before the purple wash of course, so you can see the effect. I need to paint fast, but still want a solid tabletop standard.

I wanted to convey the fact that Galrauch is constantly in flux as the Tzeentch Daemon and High Elf dragon jockey for control of the body. Thus, I wanted everything to look fleshy and corrupted. With one eye looking dragon-like and one avian-like (Ba-gawk above).
The base seemed to have an empty space, so I searched the bits box for a victim, and decided to show a dwarf body, as if Galrauch collapsed a dwarf hold ala Smaug in The Hobbit.

Warriors of Chaos Monster Mash: Galrauch the Great Pain

I managed to find a metal Galrauch the Great Drake when the new Warriors of Chaos book dropped. I have always loved the model and the fluff, even though many think he is ugly as sin.

Big G is so heavy and he is based on a 50x50 Daemon Prince base, so I decided to be lazy/ingenious and to weigh him down with rocks from my landscaping. He is held together with a combination of pinning, ZapAGap superglue, and green stuff. G-man surprisingly turned out pretty solid. Sad Face: you can see that I glued his lower head on upside down in the above picture. I decided just to hacksaw it off and repin it rather than break off the neck.

I traded for some old Albion models to add in some variety to my troll horde. I am a huge fan of ManThing.

I am up to 12 painted/based trolls now. Soon, I will be able to run the horde of 18. I don't think it will be tactically sound, but I have always dreamed it since I started Warriors of Chaos in the last book, before Throgg was cool. That's right, I am the hipster troll.

Kitbashed Throgg the Troll King: Who's the Barf Boss?

Here is my plastic Throgg that is made up of the mutants from the Warshrine kit and Daemon Prince bits. The Finecast model is beautiful, but I worry about its durability.

Tried to make him WYSIWYG as possible with the great weapon and skull crown. Armor reminds me of Regen being a 4+ for trolls.

I don't think I will be forgetting stomps anytime soon....

Warriors of Chaos: New Book, First Thoughts

Picked up the new Warriors of Chaos army book for WHFB. Here are my initial thoughts since this has been my main army since the start of 8th edition.

The Marks of Chaos have all been redone. A hero/lord must have the same mark as the unit it joins. This ends the era of min/maxing marks for the most part, but I welcome the change.

Slaneesh - Auto-pass any Fear, Terror, or Panic test.
Tzeentch - Gain a 6+ ward save or improve the existing one by +1.
Khorne - Model has frenzy.
Nurgle - Enemy models have -1 to hit you in close combat.

Right away, Nurgle seems to be the most interesting mark and good synergy with Chaos Warriors since hitting them on 5s, having 3+ armor, 6+ parry, then possibly Regeneration from the Nurgle lore seems nasty. The Nurgle lore can also further lower enemy toughness and WS, so I am seeing connections there.

As much as it pains me to admit, Tzeentch magic is terrible now. If you hit a unit with magic with Warpflame property (all of the spells), and the enemy unit passes a toughness test, they can gain Regeneration (6+) or improve their existing regen by +1. If they fail, D3 enemy models take hits with no armor save.
There aren't any indications that Warpflame is a flaming attack beyond fluff and the spell names. Thus, I expect your enemy to be recieving lost of regens, especially against armies like Ogres. Luckily, Tzeentch sorcerers can take Lore of Metal instead. Tzeentch approves of turning your enemies to gold, yes?
A single great weapon Khorne Marauder now costs 11 points. Gone are the days of 50 lumberjacks chopping down the enemy. This was an expected change. I am now looking at possibly running small squads, maybe 20 man with flails, to back up a Chaos Warrior block.
All of the monsters are really playable except the Slaughterbrute, which is ho-hum in its rules. Hellcannons surprisgingly got better. They now have a 5+ ward save and all of their attacks are magical (shooting, close combat, and stomps). Trolls lost their magical vomit, so I will no longer chunder rainbow puke on ethereal models. Throgg is beautiful in both his model and rules, but not his price ($58). He is worth it, though.
More to come, but this is just a snapshot from my first night of reading. Overall, the army is very different, but more balanced and flavorful. There are a variety of options to choose from.

Gorken Morkann, Rambork, and Khal Drogork: Ork Update

I finally mustered up the courage to paint up my baby, Gorken Morkann. Painting ork armor is fun because if you make a mistake with the brush. Meh.

I tried to stay true to the source material.

Drill, drill, drill!

The new leader of my WHFB Waaaagh, Khal Drogork.

Finally, Marbork for my Imperial Guard Allies.

Oh yeah, I painted up this Space Shark Dreadnought to kill lots of MEQ infantry, which is lousy all over the shop.

Also, look at all of these boys....
