Design Team Update ♥

After our Design Team call ended last month we had a hard time choosing who would work with us through the first half of 2016. Today we have five talented artists to share with you! We'll introduce three more shortly.

Corrie Herriman has such a fabulous style.
It's full of whimsy and color and we're glad she's continuing on with us!

Fiona Paltridge is brand new to our team, but she's sure to inspire you!
Her work is best categorized as mixed media and full of LAYERS.

Hermine Koster is another "old timer" for the VLVS! team and we couldn't be happier!
She has a very unique and innovative style that never lets us down.

Michele Kosciolek is also returning!
She's always inspiring with delicious layers of grunge and fibers.

And last for today but certainly not least is Tera Callihan.
You may know her as our resident Mail Art Maven -- and we love it!

Leave our girls some love would ya???

Bleached fox

Hi Hermine here with a tutorial. Using black paper and bleach. Hope you like it.

step 1: Take a piece of black paper, test it first to see if it will bleach, not every paper does. Take a round sponge and dip into bleach and stamp on paper. Do the same with a little one, this one did splash a bit so they look more like stars, but I don't mind, even more so I like it, it matched the dark background.

step 2: Take a stylus tool and tip with a ring shape, dip into bleach and stamp onto the large circles. Take a little round sponge, dip again into bleach and stamp again in the middle of the circle. Take a brush and splatter some bleach.

step 3: Take the clockface 19468 and dip into bleach and stamp onto the right side of the card. Clean the stamp asap.

step 4:  Stamp the cute fox in coat 19158 with Versamark and emboss with black embossing powder.

step 5: Take an old brush and discolour the inside of the fox .Stamp Writing Circles background 19567 with bleach on the left hand side of the card to balance the card a bit more.

step 6: Glue this card onto a double kraft paper square card.

Hope it inspires you.

Warmly Hermine

To match

Hi Hermine here. This time I made a match box with a matching necklace.

step 1: Take a match box alteration die and cut out the shape out of cardstock. Spray the 2 pieces with water and sprinkle some Brusho. This is just one colour called Sandstone.
step 2: Stamp  Whimsical Cyclops 19407 with Stazobn  Black Colour the lips and make some white accents in the eye.
step 3: Mask off the face and stamp Writing Circles background 19567 over the rest of the outer  piece.
step 4: take a piece shrink plastic and stamp the Whimsical Cyclops and Whimsical Acorn 19405 with Stazon Black. Give some colour accents on the face. Cut both shapes out and make a hole at the top of each one. Shrink the 2 pieces. Take a piece of leftover shrink plastic, cut a rectangle and colour with Brusho. Punch holes on each sides, bent it and fasten it temporarely with a piece of wire and shrink it so it forms a loop. Take a metal ring and fasten the face onto the loop and treat the loop over a chain. Fasten the acorn with a metall ring to the necklace clasp.
step 5: put a piece of cotton ball into the box and put the necklace in.

Lots of layers

Hi Hermine here again. This time a card with lots of layers but still keeping the CAS look, I really love that look but I also love lots of stamping :o)

step 1 : take a piece of mica sheet (Always hard to photograph because its transparent) and stamp with Versamark the text You are here 19178 and emboss with Black embossingpowder

step 2 : take a piece of vellum (this one has little golden spots which adds depth to the look), stamp with Stazon black the Big Ben 19391 and mask it. Stamp the Double Coffee rings 19568

step 3 : Take a piece of kraftpaper and stamp Victorian Flourish 19417 with Versamark and emboss with High Gloss clear embossing powder. Sponge with Distress Black soot and whipe excess off with a paper towel.

step 4 : take a strip of black paper (in my case I used a tag that was on one of my new cloth). Take a little piece of white paper and stamp with Stazon Black the barcode from the December Daily Plate 1430

step 5 : layer all of your stamped pieces on to a double white card untill you are happy with the layout.

step 6: Fasten the pieces with an eyelet, I have used 5. Tie a knot in 4 of them and tie a piece of string in the eyelet with the black strip and fasten some beads.

Hope you like my CAS card.

step 3: take some music paper, glue a wire on it and cover it again with music paper, draw a feather shape on it and cut out, Cut some notches all around the feather. Do the same with the second one. Then spray some water and sprinkel green Bistre, dry with a heattool, spray some water again and sprinkle some Brusho. Dry with a heattool.
step 4: stamp the large bird flying 19001 on a seperate piece of paper and cut out. Colour with Lyra Crayons. Then cover the whole bird with Versamark and Ultra high gloss clear embossingpowder. heatset it, cover again with Versamark and embossing powder and heatset again.
step 5: make some faux stitches on the left hand side of the card with a black fineliner.

Vintage collage cards

Hi Hermine here, this time I made a tutorial to make vintage collage cards.

step 1: take 2 A$ sized paper (not as thick as cardstock, more like printer paper), cut both up to A6, this way you have 8 pieces of paper. Colour 2 of them with Brusho, stamp some background stamps on one of them. Take 2 of them and wrinkle, flatten and use distress ink direct to paper, iron them flat and dry. Use 2 of them to stamp on it to achieve a black and white look. Use 1 to stamp with different colours distress and background stamps. Stamp 1 of them with the invoice and make stains with distress ink. I used several stamps plate 1455, Waybill/invoice backround 19416, Sheet music background 19557, Harlequin Diamond Background 18920 and  Washi Grid Background 19074. But any gorgeous background stamp will do the trick.

step 2: Tear different pieces of the papers and place on your cardstock, When you like the look you glue them and trim the excess at the edges. Put aside for a little while.

step 3: take a smaller piece of cardstock and stamp with Stazon Black the tricycle girl mailing letter 19558. Cut a piece of black cardstock a little bigger then the one with the image. And stamp on a piece of leftover the number from the December Daily plate 1430

step 4: Colour the image and background with Lyra crayons and a waterbrush. Glue it onto the piece of black paper. Punch a hole and fasten an eyelet. Tie a piece of ribbon.

step 5: Glue a piece of lace on the lefthand side of your background card and use some washi tape. Assemble the card by glueing a piece of black cardstock onto your double squared kraftpaper card, then glue on the background. Glue the focal image in an angle onto the background and finish if off by glueing the number 7.

And this is how it looks when finished.

As you can tell you can make more then one card out of you pieces of selfmade patterned paper. I ended up with 4 larger ones and one smaller one. Still had some leftover that I used on the cards.

Made the same way as above. Focal image  Pipe Man Riding Bicycle 19555 and Admit one ticket 19190

Made the same way as above. Focal image Lady in Steampunk car 18382 and Butterfly specimens 19415

Made the same way as above. Focal Image Tea Party 19114 and writing triangles 19571

Made the same way as above. Focal Image Bansky unhappy boy 19493 and the number 16 from the December Daily plate 1430

I used magical tape to glue all parts to the card.

Hope this series will give you lots of inspiration and have fun trying it out.

Warmly Hermine

Puzzled

Hi Hermine here,

This time I played around with some puzzle pieces and some Brusho's.

step 1: pull all parts apart and start with the middle one, the puzzle shped one. Spray with water and use some Brusho. leave to dry

step 2: take the outside part and colour with some distress ink tea dye. Stamp with Stazon Black  Sheet Music Background 19557, do this on your left hand side and don't push to hard because you want to achive a distressed look. Then stamp with Distress Tea Dye  the grunge circles 19563 on the right hand side.Sponge the edges with a Stazon Black. Leave to dry

step 3: take the middle part, colour with distress inks and a bit of brusho. Stamp with Stazon Black Do all things with love 19545. Make some white accents with a sharpie. Punch a hole and tie a string. put all the pieces together again except for the middle piece. Colour the edges with a sponge and Stazon Black

step 4: take a double squared card and layer down the card and mark the inner space of the little rectangle with pencil ( so you can erase it later). Put aside the puzzle pieces and stamp directly on the card the bird in Mask 19160 with Stazon and colour in with Lyra crayons and a water brush.

step 4: assemble the puzzle parts and glue onto the card. Then punch some hinches (I used the Quickutz), glue on the left hand side of the card, half on the puzzle piece, and the other half on the rectangled middle piece, so it acts like a little door.

Hope you like this card.

Warmly Hermine
